Wedgebox analysis of four-lepton events from neutralino pair production at the LHC
`Wedgebox' plots constructed by plotting the di-electron invariant mass
versus the di-muon invariant mass from pp -> e^+e^- mu^+ mu^- + missing energy
signature LHC events. Data sets of such events are obtained across the MSSM
input parameter space in event-generator simulations, including cuts designed
to remove SM backgrounds. Their study reveals several general features:
(1)Regions in the MSSM input parameter space where a sufficient number of
events are expected so as to be able to construct a clear wedgebox plot are
delineated. (2)The presence of box shapes on a wedgebox plot either indicates
the presence of heavy Higgs bosons decays or restricts the location to a quite
small region of low \mu and M_2 values \lsim 200 GeV, a region denoted as the
`lower island'. In this region, wedgebox plots can be quite complicated and
change in pattern rather quickly as one moves around in the (\mu, M_2) plane.
(3)Direct neutralino pair production from an intermediate Z^{0*} may only
produce a wedge-shape since only \widetilde{\chi}_2^0\widetilde{\chi}_3^0
decays can contribute significantly. (4)A double-wedge or
wedge-protruding-from-a-box pattern on a wedgebox plot, which results from
combining a variety of MSSM production processes, yields three distinct
observed endpoints, almost always attributable to \widetilde{\chi}_{2,3,4}^0
\to \widetilde{\chi}_1^0 \ell^+\ell^- decays, which can be utilized to
determine a great deal of information about the neutralino and slepton mass
spectra and related MSSM input parameters. Wedge and double-wedge patterns are
seen in wedgebox plots in another region of higher \mu and M_2 values, denoted
as the`upper island.' Here the pattern is simpler and more stable as one moves
across the (\mu, M_2) input parameter space.Comment: 28 pages (LaTeX), 8 figures (encapsulated postscript
Fermion Electric Dipole Moments in Supersymmetric Models with R-parity Violation
We analyze the electron and neutron electric dipole moments induced by
R-parity violating interactions in supersymmetric models. It is pointed out
that dominant contributions can come from one-loop diagrams involving both the
bilinear and trilinear R-parity odd couplings, leading to somewhat severe
constraints on the products of those couplings.Comment: Revtex, 19pp, four figures in axodraw.st
Theoretical uncertainties in sparticle mass predictions from computational tools
We estimate the current theoretical uncertainty in sparticle mass predictions
by comparing several state-of-the-art computations within the minimal
supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). We find that the theoretical uncertainty
is comparable to the expected statistical errors from the Large Hadron Collider
(LHC), and significantly larger than those expected from a future e+e- Linear
Collider (LC). We quantify the theoretical uncertainty on relevant sparticle
observables for both LHC and LC, and show that the value of the error is
significantly dependent upon the supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking parameters. We
also present the theoretical uncertainty induced in fundamental-scale SUSY
breaking parameters when they are fitted from LHC measurements. Two regions of
the SUSY parameter space where accurate predictions are particularly difficult
are examined in detail: the large tan(beta) and focus point regimes.Comment: 22 pages, 6 figures; comment added pointing out that 2-loop QCD
corrections to mt are incorrect in some of the programs investigated. We give

Supersymmetry without R-parity : Constraints from Leptonic Phenomenology
R-parity conservation is an {\it ad hoc} assumption in the most popular
version of the supersymmetric standard model. Most studies of models which do
allow for R-parity violation have been restricted to various limiting
scenarios. The single-VEV parametrization used in this paper provides a
workable framework to analyze phenomenology of the most general theory of SUSY
without R-parity. We perform a comprehensive study of leptonic phenomenology at
tree-level. Experimental constraints on various processes are studied
individually and then combined to yield regions of admissible parameter space.
In particular, we show that large R-parity violating bilinear couplings are not
ruled out, especially for large .Comment: 56 pages Revtex with figures incorporated; typos (including

Higgs Physics at Future Colliders: recent theoretical developments
I review the physics of the Higgs sector in the Standard Model and its
minimal supersymmetric extension, the MSSM. I will discuss the prospects for
discovering the Higgs particles at the upgraded Tevatron, at the Large Hadron
Collider, and at a future high--energy linear collider with
centre--of--mass energy in the 350--800 GeV range, as well as the possibilities
for studying their fundamental properties. Some emphasis will be put on the
theoretical developments which occurred in the last two years.Comment: 20 pages, latex, 12 figures. Talk given at PASCOS 2003 (Bombay,

The microaerophilic microbiota of de-novo paediatric inflammatory bowel disease: the BISCUIT study

Introduction: Children presenting for the first time with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) offer a unique opportunity to study aetiological agents before the confounders of treatment. Microaerophilic bacteria can exploit the ecological niche of the intestinal epithelium; Helicobacter and Campylobacter are previously implicated in IBD pathogenesis. We set out to study these and other microaerophilic bacteria in de-novo paediatric IBD.

Patients and Methods: 100 children undergoing colonoscopy were recruited including 44 treatment naïve de-novo IBD patients and 42 with normal colons. Colonic biopsies were subjected to microaerophilic culture with Gram-negative isolates then identified by sequencing. Biopsies were also PCR screened for the specific microaerophilic bacterial groups: Helicobacteraceae, Campylobacteraceae and Sutterella wadsworthensis.

Results: 129 Gram-negative microaerophilic bacterial isolates were identified from 10 genera. The most frequently cultured was S. wadsworthensis (32 distinct isolates). Unusual Campylobacter were isolated from 8 subjects (including 3 C. concisus, 1 C. curvus, 1 C. lari, 1 C. rectus, 3 C. showae). No Helicobacter were cultured. When comparing IBD vs. normal colon control by PCR the prevalence figures were not significantly different (Helicobacter 11% vs. 12%, p = 1.00; Campylobacter 75% vs. 76%, p = 1.00; S. wadsworthensis 82% vs. 71%, p = 0.312).

Conclusions: This study offers a comprehensive overview of the microaerophilic microbiota of the paediatric colon including at IBD onset. Campylobacter appear to be surprisingly common, are not more strongly associated with IBD and can be isolated from around 8% of paediatric colonic biopsies. S. wadsworthensis appears to be a common commensal. Helicobacter species are relatively rare in the paediatric colon.

Charged lepton Flavor Violation in Supersymmetry with Bilinear R-Parity Violation
The simplest unified extension of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model
with bi-linear R-parity violation naturally predicts a hierarchical neutrino
mass spectrum, suitable to explain atmospheric and solar neutrino fluxes. We
study whether the individual violation of the lepton numbers L_{e,mu,tau} in
the charged sector can lead to measurable rates for BR(mu->e gamma)and
$BR(tau-> mu gamma). We find that some of the R-parity violating terms that are
compatible with the observed atmospheric neutrino oscillations could lead to
rates for mu->e gamma measurable in projected experiments. However, the Delta
m^2_{12} obtained for those parameters is too high to be compatible with the
solar neutrino data, excluding therefore the possibility of having measurable
rates for mu->e gamma in the model.Comment: 29 pages, 8 figures. Constraint from solar neutrino data included,

Exploring novel correlations in trilepton channels at the LHC for the minimal supersymmetric inverse seesaw model
We investigate signatures of the minimal supersymmetric inverse seesaw model
at the large hadron collider (LHC) with three isolated leptons and large
missing energy (3\ell + \mET or 2\ell + 1\tau + \mET, with \ell=e,\mu) in the
final state. This signal has its origin in the decay of chargino-neutralino
(\chpm1\ntrl2) pair, produced in pp collisions. The two body decays of the
lighter chargino into a charged lepton and a singlet sneutrino has a
characteristic decay pattern which is correlated with the observed large
atmospheric neutrino mixing angle. This correlation is potentially observable
at the LHC by looking at the ratios of cross sections of the trilepton + \mET
channels in certain flavour specific modes. We show that even after considering
possible leading standard model backgrounds these final states can lead to
reasonable discovery significance at the LHC with both 7 TeV and 14 TeV
center-of-mass energy.Comment: 28 pages, 9 .eps figures. 3 new figures and discussions on LHC
