Use of scale models to determine the structural dynamic characteristics of space vehicles
Scale model designs for determining structural dynamic characteristics of future spacecraf
Planetary companions orbiting M giants HD 208527 and HD 220074
Aims. The purpose of the present study is to research the origin of planetary
companions by using a precise radial velocity (RV) survey.
Methods. The high-resolution spectroscopy of the fiber-fed Bohyunsan
Observatory Echelle Spectrograph (BOES) at Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy
Observatory (BOAO) is used from September 2008 to June 2012.
Results. We report the detection of two exoplanets in orbit around HD 208527
and HD 220074 exhibiting periodic variations in RV of 875.5 +/- 5.8 and 672.1
+/- 3.7 days. The RV variations are not apparently related to the surface
inhomogeneities and a Keplerian motion of the planetary companion is the most
likely explanation. Assuming possible stellar masses of 1.6 +/- 0.4 and 1.2 +/-
0.3 M_Sun, we obtain the minimum masses for the exoplanets of 9.9 +/- 1.7 and
11.1 +/- 1.8 M_Jup around HD 208527 and HD 220074 with an orbital semi-major
axis of 2.1 +/- 0.2 and 1.6 +/- 0.1 AU and an eccentricity of 0.08 and 0.14,
respectively. We also find that the previously known spectral classification of
HD 208527 and HD 220074 was in error: Our new estimation of stellar parameters
suggest that both HD 208527 and HD 220074 are M giants. Therefore, HD 208527
and HD 220074 are so far the first candidate M giants to harbor a planetary

Aspects of Horava-Lifshitz cosmology
We review some general aspects of Horava-Lifshitz cosmology. Formulating it
in its basic version, we extract the cosmological equations and we use
observational data in order to constrain the parameters of the theory. Through
a phase-space analysis we extract the late-time stable solutions, and we show
that eternal expansion, and bouncing and cyclic behavior can arise naturally.
Concerning the effective dark energy sector we show that it can describe the
phantom phase without the use of a phantom field. However, performing a
detailed perturbation analysis, we see that Horava-Lifshitz gravity in its
basic version suffers from instabilities. Therefore, suitable generalizations
are required in order for this novel theory to be a candidate for the

Mechanically Induced Thermal Breakdown in Magnetic Shuttle Structures
A theory of a thermally induced single-electron "shuttling" instability in a
magnetic nanomechanical device subject to an external magnetic field is
presented in the Coulomb blockade regime of electron transport. The model
magnetic shuttle device considered comprises a movable metallic grain suspended
between two magnetic leads, which are kept at different temperatures and
assumed to be fully spin polarized with antiparallel magnetizations. For a
given temperature difference shuttling is found to occur for a region of
external magnetic fields between a lower and an upper critical field strength,
which separate the shuttling regime from normal small-amplitude "vibronic"
regimes. We find that (i) the upper critical magnetic field saturates to a
constant value in the high temperature limit and that the shuttle instability
domain expands with a decrease of the temperature, (ii) the lower critical
magnetic field depends not only on the temperature independent phenomenological
friction coefficient used in the model but also on intrinsic friction (which
vanishes in the high temperature limit) caused by magnetic exchange forces and
electron tunneling between the quantum dot and the leads. The feasibility of
using thermally driven magnetic shuttle systems to harvest thermal breakdown

Influences of an impurity on the transport properties of one-dimensional antisymmetric spin filter
The influences of an impurity on the spin and the charge transport of
one-dimensional antisymmetric spin filter are investigated using bosonization
and Keldysh formulation and the results are highlighted against those of
spinful Luttinger liquids. Due to the dependence of the electron spin
orientation on wave number the spin transport is not affected by the impurity,
while the charge transport is essentially identical with that of spinless

Quantum information processing based on P-31 nuclear spin qubits in a quasi-one-dimensional Si-28 nanowire
We suggest a new method of quantum information processing based on the
precise placing of P-31 isotope atoms in a quasi-one-dimensional Si-28 nanowire
using isotope engineering and neutron-transmutation doping of the grown
structures. In our structure, interqubit entanglement is based on the indirect
interaction of P-31 nuclear spins with electrons localized in a nanowire. This
allows one to control the coupling between distant qubits and between qubits
separated by non-qubit neighboring nodes. The suggested method enables one to
fabricate structures using present-day nanolithography. Numerical estimates
show the feasibility of the proposed device and method of operation.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figure
Remarks on the Scalar Graviton Decoupling and Consistency of Horava Gravity
Recently Horava proposed a renormalizable gravity theory with higher
derivatives by abandoning the Lorenz invariance in UV. But there have been
confusions regarding the extra scalar graviton mode and the consistency of the
Horava model. I reconsider these problems and show that, in the Minkowski
vacuum background, the scalar graviton mode can be consistency decoupled from
the usual tensor graviton modes by imposing the (local) Hamiltonian as well as
