Attitudes of the inhabitants of Hrvatsko zagorje on the general role of forests and forestry
The paper reports on the survey aimed at assessing the attitudes of the population on the general importance and role of forests and forestry at the local level. The target questionnaire involved 50 respondents, of which about half were interviewed in the urban and the other half in the rural community. The attidudes surveyed included the most important ecological problems and the role of forests, the concepts of sustainable development and sustainable management, the evaluation of the forest condition in the Republic of Croatia and the most important tasks related to forest ecosystems, the quality of forest management and others. Findings and reports from the survey provide the forestry profession with objective starting points for the establishment of a public relations strategy in the following segments:
• Improvement of the system of information – internal and outwards
• Promotion of ecological education
• Development and stimulation of media interest
• Strenghtening the economic role of forestry and the social role of the forestry profession
• Involvement of the public in making decisions concerning forest ecosystems.
In addition, this survey provides the local authority with a useful insight into the condition and level of population awareness of the broadest issues of environment quality. Moreover, local associations are given useful guidelines in the sense of defining areas and methods of their activities – in particular those activities concerned with the issues that are either unfamiliar or unsufficiently familiar to the general public
Perforacija nazofarinksa zbog tupe traume vrata uzrokovane padom uslijed epileptičkog napadaja

This study aimed to identify event-related factors in OHCA and their impact on return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) achievement and maintenance until hospital admission.Patients and Methods: All data were collected from Utstein Resuscitation Registry Template for OHCA from The Institute of Emergency Medicine of Zagreb from January 2012 to August 2022. This cross-sectional research analyzed 2839 Utstein reports, including 2001 male, 836 female, and 8 subjects of unknown gender. The average age was 65.4 ± 16.2 years. Results: The most frequent place of collapse was private residence, and 27% of collapses were unwitnessed. Dispatcher-provided CPR instructions were provided in 39.7% of cases until the arrival of the emergency service team, which showed a very strong effect on bystander-provided CPR, and were followed in 68.4% of cases, while non-instructed bystander CPR was provided in only 7.9% of cases. Bystander CPR is more likely to be provided in public places than in private residences, often with both compression and ventilation. Bystander CPR was also more likely to be provided to men. Cases with bystander CPR, and compressions with ventilation compared to compression only CPR, showed a significantly greater success in maintaining ROSC later in CPR, both with moderate effects. Conclusion: Bystander CPR has been shown to have a significant role in achieving and maintaining ROSC until hospital admission. However, our results showed a location-dependent nature of bystanders’ willingness to perform CPR as well as sex disparities in patients receiving CPR. With deficient education in basic life support in Croatia, dispatchers need to insist on and instruct bystander CPR performance. Keywords: out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, emergency medical servic
Characteristics and drivers of forest cover change in the post-socialist era in Croatia: evidence from a mixed-methods approach
© 2016, Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.Extensive forests in Croatia represent an important biological and economic resource in Europe. They are characterised by heterogeneity in forest management practices dating back to the socialist planned economy of the pre-1991 era. In this study we investigated the difference in rates of deforestation and reforestation in private- and state-owned forests during the post-socialist period and the causal drivers of change. The selected region of Northern Croatia is characterised by a high percentage of privately owned forests with minimal national monitoring and control. We used a mixed-methods approach which combines remote sensing, statistical modelling and a household-based questionnaire survey to assess the rates of forest cover change and factors influencing those changes. The results show that predominantly privately owned forests in Northern Croatia have recorded a net forest loss of 1.8 % during the 1991–2011 period, while Croatia overall is characterised by a 10 % forest cover increase in predominantly state-owned forests. Main factors influencing forest cover changes in private forests are slope, altitude, education structure, population age and population density. The results also show that the deforestation in private forests is weakening overall, mostly due to the continuation of the de-agrarisation and de-ruralisation processes which began during socialism
