An Investigation of Stress Experienced by the Novice Teacher

The research conducted during this study consisted of examining the stressors experienced by the novice-teacher. The purpose for conducting this study was to examine the steadily increasing teacher attrition rate among beginning teachers, which has reached the highest it has ever been. It is believed that stressors experienced by novice teachers are major contributors to the high teacher attrition rates in today’s teacher workforce. Extant data was gathered by analyzing a survey of perceptions and the and the first-hand experiences of a first year teacher through an autoethnographical methodology was used to determine the major stressors for first-year teachers. The aim was to discover possible solutions for those major stressors. The results of the study showed that lack of support, time-management skills, and working in a high-stakes testing environment created high levels of stress for the novice teacher. Effective solutions to aid in the reduction of stress levels included engaging in physical exercise, being assigned a mentor teacher, being well prepared, and leading a balanced lifestyle

LES FEBRES TERCIANES DE SANT MARTÍ DE PROVENÇALS. UN INFORME DE L’ACADÈMIA DE MEDICINA DE BARCELONA (1839)

S’analitzen i es transcriuen quatre documents manuscrits en relació, a les febres  tercianes que afectaven a la població de Sant Martí de Provençals. Un, de l’Arxiu Municipal de Sant Martí Provençals de l’any 1837, on queda constància de la  inquietud que hi havia pels estralls que les febres estaven causant; tres, del fons arxivístic de la Reial Acadèmia de Medicina de Catalunya (anys 1838-1839), dos d’ells de la Diputació de Barcelona, demanant informes a l’Acadèmia i per últim el dictamen de l’Acadèmia, de gener de 1839. Es considera que és un dels primers expedients amb documentació sanitària referits al terme de Sant Martí. S’ha afegit un article posterior de “La Voz de las Afueras”, sense data ni autor, però força interessant on s’explica esquemàticament el procés de creixement de la població i els problemes mediambientals del moment.Se analizan y transcriben cuatro documentos manuscritos en relación, a las fiebres tercianas que afectaron a la población de Sant Martí de Provençals. Uno, del  Archivo Municipal de Sant Martí de Provençals de 1837, donde queda patente la  inquietud que había a causa de los estragos que las fiebres tercianas estaban provocando; tres, del fondo archivístico de la Reial Acadèmia de Medicina de Catalunya (años 1838-1839), dos de ellos de la Diputación de Barcelona, pidiendo informes a la Academia y por último el dictamen de la Academia, de enero de 1839. Se considera que es uno de los primeros expedientes con documentación sanitaria referidos al municipio de San Martín. Se ha añadido un artículo posterior de “La Voz de las Afueras”, sin fecha ni autor, bastante interesante, donde se explica de forma esquemática el proceso de crecimiento de la población y los problemas medioambientales del momento

Self-Assembly Behavior of Amphiphilic Janus Dendrimers in Water: A Combined Experimental and Coarse-Grained Molecular Dynamics Simulation Approach

FDGN thanks to the USA Air Force Office of Scientific Research Awards.Amphiphilic Janus dendrimers (JDs) are repetitively branched molecules with hydrophilic and hydrophobic components that self-assemble in water to form a variety of morphologies, including vesicles analogous to liposomes with potential pharmaceutical and medical application. To date, the self-assembly of JDs has not been fully investigated thus it is important to gain insight into its mechanism and dependence on JDs’ molecular structure. In this study, the aggregation behavior in water of a second-generation bis-MPA JD was evaluated using experimental and computational methods. Dispersions of JDs in water were carried out using the thin-film hydration and ethanol injection methods. Resulting assemblies were characterized by dynamic light scattering, confocal microscopy, and atomic force microscopy. Furthermore, a coarse-grained molecular dynamics (CG-MD) simulation was performed to study the mechanism of JDs aggregation. The obtaining of assemblies in water with no interdigitated bilayers was confirmed by the experimental characterization and CG-MD simulation. Assemblies with dendrimersome characteristics were obtained using the ethanol injection method. The results of this study establish a relationship between the molecular structure of the JD and the properties of its aggregates in water. DOCUMENTACIÓ A L’ACADÈMIA DE MEDICINA DE BARCELONA SOBRE L’EPIFITIA DE LES PATATES DE 1845 A CATALUNYA

S’aporten dades de nou documents, dels anys 1845 i 1846, de l’arxiu de la RAMC referits a la malaltia epidèmia de les patates, que va tenir una gran repercussió en  diversos països d’Europa, en especial Irlanda. Demostra una certa preocupació de les autoritats sanitàries, que volen saber les repercussions que aquest fet pogués  tenir en els cultius de les zones frontereres amb França. Les dades que es troben  en aquests escrits no mostren una gravetat ni preocupació especials.Se aportan datos de nueve documentos, de los anys 1845 y 1846, del archivo de la RAMC referidos a la enfermedad epidémica de las patatas, que tuvo una gran repercusión en diversos paises de Europa, en especial Irlanda. Demuestra una cierta preocupación de las autoritades sanitarias, que indagan sobre las repercusiones que este hecho pueda tener en los cultivos de las zonas fronterizas con Francia. La  información de estos documentos no demuestra una gravedad ni preocupación especiales

En este proyecto PAP estaré colaborando con la empresa Robert Bosch GmbH como becario de desarrollo de software embebido. Las actividades que llevaré a cabo consistirán en soporte al equipo encargado del módulo de diagnóstico de su producto DASy. Además de las actividades específicas asignadas por este equipo, parte fundamental del proyecto consistirá en el aprendizaje y familiarización con las tecnologías y estándares utilizados en la industria automotriz. El producto DASy es un sistema de computo que busca soportar la gran variedad de aplicaciones de tipo ADAS que han tenido un auge de desarrollo en los últimos años. El equipo de diagnóstico tiene la responsabilidad de habilitar las actividades diagnóstico, a la medida del proyecto del cliente, particularmente al implementar los servicios UDS, así como elementos que interactúan con estos servicios (rutinas, DiDs). Mis actividades de soporte se enfocarán en la elaboración de los requerimientos de servicios UDS, apoyo en la implementación de DiDs y elaboración de documentación interna para el equipo. Entre los temas en lo que me estaré formando, los principales para apoyar a las actividades que desarrollare son la especificación de UDS y AUTOSAR. Otros temas que también estaré cubriendo serán protocolos de comunicación y practica de programación en lenguaje C++.ITESO, A.C
