Connected Lie groups and property RD
For a locally compact group, property RD gives a control on the convolution
norm of any compactly supported measure in terms of the -norm of its
density and the diameter of its support. We give a complete classification of

Magnetoelastic effects in Jahn-Teller distorted CrF and CuF studied by neutron powder diffraction
We have studied the temperature dependence of crystal and magnetic structures
of the Jahn-Teller distorted transition metal difluorides CrF and CuF
by neutron powder diffraction in the temperature range 2-280 K. The lattice
parameters and the unit cell volume show magnetoelastic effects below the
N\'eel temperature. The lattice strain due to the magnetostriction effect
couples with the square of the order parameter of the antiferromagnetic phase
transition. We also investigated the temperature dependence of the Jahn-Teller
distortion which does not show any significant effect at the antiferromagnetic
phase transition but increases linearly with increasing temperature for CrF
and remains almost independent of temperature in CuF. The magnitude of
magnetovolume effect seems to increase with the low temperature saturated
magnetic moment of the transition metal ions but the correlation is not at all
perfect
Doping dependence of the exchange energies in bilayer manganites: Role of orbital degrees of freedom
Recently, an intriguing doping dependence of the exchange energies in the
bilayer manganites has been observed in the neutron
scattering experiments. The intra-layer exchange only weakly changed with
doping while the inter-layer one drastically decreased. Here we propose a
theory which accounts for these experimental findings. We argue, that the
observed striking doping dependence of the exchange energies can be attributed
to the evaluation of the orbital level splitting with doping. The latter is
handled by the interplay between Jahn-Teller effect (supporting an axial
orbital) and the orbital anisotropy of the electronic band in the bilayer
structure (promoting an in-plane orbital), which is monitored by the Coulomb
repulsion. The presented theory, while being a mean-field type, describes well
the experimental data and also gives the estimates of the several interesting
