    Lagrangian Floer potential of orbifold spheres

    For each sphere with three orbifold points, we construct an algorithm to compute the open Gromov–Witten potential, which serves as the quantum-corrected Landau–Ginzburg mirror and is an infinite series in general. This gives the first class of general-type geometries whose full potentials can be computed. As a consequence we obtain an enumerative meaning of mirror maps for elliptic curve quotients. Furthermore, we prove that the open Gromov–Witten potential is convergent, even in the general-type cases, and has an isolated singularity at the origin, which is an important ingredient of proving homological mirror symmetry.National Research Foundation of Korea; 2010-0019516; 2012R1A1A2003117; 2013R1A1A1058646 - National Research Foundation of Kore

    Antiferromagnetic and structural transitions in the superoxide KO2 from first principles: A 2p-electron system with spin-orbital-lattice coupling

    KO2 exhibits concomitant antiferromagnetic (AFM) and structural transitions, both of which originate from the open-shell 2p electrons of O2_{2}^{-} molecules. The structural transition is accompanied by the coherent tilting of O2_{2}^{-} molecular axes. The interplay among the spin-orbital-lattice degrees of freedom in KO2 is investigated by employing the first-principles electronic structure theory and the kinetic-exchange interaction scheme. We have shown that the insulating nature of the high symmetry phase of KO2 at high temperature (T) arises from the combined effect of the spin-orbit coupling and the strong Coulomb correlation of O 2p electrons. In contrast, for the low symmetry phase of KO2 at low T with the tilted O2_{2}^{-} molecular axes, the band gap and the orbital ordering are driven by the combined effects of the crystal-field and the strong Coulomb correlation. We have verified that the emergence of the O 2p ferro-orbital ordering is essential to achieve the observed AFM structure for KO2

    Metastable hard-axis polar state of a spinor Bose-Einstein condensate under a magnetic field gradient

    We investigate the stability of a hard-axis polar state in a spin-1 antiferromagnetic Bose-Einstein condensate under a magnetic field gradient, where the easy-plane spin anisotropy is controlled by a negative quadratic Zeeman energy q<0q<0. In a uniform magnetic field, the axial polar state is dynamically unstable and relaxes into the planar polar ground state. However, under a field gradient BB', the excited spin state becomes metastable down to a certain threshold qthq_{th} and as qq decreases below qthq_{th}, its intrinsic dynamical instability is rapidly recalled. The incipient spin excitations in the relaxation dynamics appear with stripe structures, indicating the rotational symmetry breaking by the field gradient. We measure the dependences of qthq_{th} on BB' and the sample size, and we find that qthq_{th} is highly sensitive to the field gradient in the vicinity of B=0B'=0, exhibiting power-law behavior of qthBα|q_{th}|\propto B'^{\alpha} with α0.5\alpha \sim 0.5. Our results demonstrate the significance of the field gradient effect in the quantum critical dynamics of spinor condensates.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figure

    Measuring Willingness to Accept for GM Food by Characteristics

    Korean consumers' willingness to accept (WTA) for GM food are studied in this paper. This study compares hypothetical and nonhypothetical responses to choice experiment questions. We test for hypothetical bias in a choice experiment involving GM rice with differing characteristic attributes and multinomial logit model is applied to predict the estimated results. In general, hypothetical responses predicted higher probabilities of purchasing GM rice than nonhypothetical responses. Thus, hypothetical choices overestimate willingness to accept for GM rice.     Effects of Meson Mass Reduction on the Properties of Neutron Star Matter

    We investigate the effects of meson-mass reduction on the properties of the neutron star matter. We adopt the Brown-Rho scaling law to take into account density dependence of meson masses in the quantum hadrodynamics, quark-meson coupling and modified quark-meson coupling models. It is found that the equation of state becomes stiff when the mass of meson is reduced in dense medium.
