    Constraining Higgsino Kink Tracks from Existing LHC Searches

    Considering the supersymmetric model with the long-lived charged Higgsino, we discuss how Higgsino kink signals can show up in the latest LHC Disappearing Track (DT) and stable chargino searches. We derive constraints on the Higgsino kink signal, and characterize it in comparison to the Wino DT and the slepton kink track.     Transactional distance and student motivation: Student perception of teacher immediacy, solidarity toward peer students and student motivation in distance education

    Transactional Distance Theory is conceptually significant in that the core nature of distance in distance education is not a geographical or temporal distance but a psychological or communicational distance between students and their teacher(s), as well as among students. In spite of the conceptual significance of the transactional distance theory, the interrelationships among the construct variables and propositions of the theory are unclear. The majority of studies on transactional distance theory either used the theory solely as a conceptual framework, or proposed the refinement of the theory. Literature review indicated that the theory was found to be invalid and unreliable. No measurements have been consistently used to measure transactional distance.;This study focused on the conceptual significance of transactional theory through the use of concepts and measurements from Communication Studies. This study made an effort to investigate Moore\u27s theory of transactional distance with the concepts of \u27immediacy\u27 and \u27solidarity,\u27 which are often used in the field of Communication Studies. The operational definition of transactional distance between teacher and students (TDST) is students\u27 perception of teachers\u27 immediacy behavior and that of transactional distance among students (TDSS) is students\u27 perception of the learner.;By providing a measurable communication variable as operational definition of transactional distance, this study showed the potential of transactional distance as a measurable variable in a theory. This study sampled seventy-nine Executive Master\u27s of Business Administration (EMBA) students in videoconferencing classrooms. The findings indicated that offsite students who do not have their instructor in their classroom developed higher solidarity toward their classmates in the same site than onsite students whose instructors were present in their classroom. No significant association was found between student motivation and student perception of psychological distance toward their instructor or toward their classmates

    A Knowledge-building Process in Interaction-based E-Learning

    This research articulates a knowledge-building process in interaction-based e-learning. For exploration of a knowledge-building process, an interaction-based e-learning program was developed and implemented at a college level course. Throughout the course, quantitative and qualitative data including students\u27 perceived knowledge-building process from questionnaires, online messages, interview data, and participatory observation journal were collected and analyzed. As results, an observable action model and a conceptual model of the knowledge-building process were derived, which students and experts verified. Cognitive achievement factors and satisfaction factors were also considered in the knowledge building process model. Meaning and implication of each stage in the model were discussed

    Impact of Direct Income Payments on Productive Efficiency of Korean Rice Farms

    This paper examines the impact of direct income payments on productive efficiency of Korean rice farms, using farm-level cross sectional data in 2006. For representation of efficiency and its determinants, this paper uses a model that estimates the deviations of farms from a translog distance function and the determinants of these deviations. This paper especially estimates a stochastic frontier production function to explain deviations from best-practice productivity with a two-part error term including statistical noise from measurement error and technical inefficiency arising from farms not reaching the production frontier boundary. The empirical evidence finds that farms that get a higher share of direct payments in farm revenue are less efficient than others. This inefficiency is reduced by increases in farm size. Another result indicates that farms received greater direct payments on aggregate are more efficient than other farms since fixed payment, one part of rice direct payment, is tied to the amount of a farm's cropland that has been enrolled in programs, as well as yield histories.direct income payments, productive efficiency, stochastic frontier production function, Korea, Agribusiness, Agricultural and Food Policy, Crop Production/Industries,
