What are Best Practices for Retaining Employees During Mergers and Acquisitions?
The purpose of this report is to guide decision makers at this company, by offering the most recent theories and practices regarding talent retention programs. Recently mergers and acquisitions have become a major part of global business. During the M&A, it is important to manage the organizational and human resource issues. Our team focused on gathering real business cases. Then we highlight some suggestions from the best practices to create successful M&A. It is our intent that the research findings in this report will help to enlighten and inform the company’s leaders to guide the effective human management program centered on key talent, ultimately leading to organizational success
Extinction dynamics from meta-stable coexistences in an evolutionary game
Deterministic evolutionary game dynamics can lead to stable coexistences of
different types. Stochasticity, however, drives the loss of such coexistences.
This extinction is usually accompanied by population size fluctuations. We
investigate the most probable extinction trajectory under such fluctuations by
mapping a stochastic evolutionary model to a problem of classical mechanics
using the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) approximation. Our results show that
more abundant types in a coexistence can be more likely to go extinct first
well agreed with previous results, and also the distance between the
coexistence and extinction point is not a good predictor of extinction.
Instead, the WKB method correctly predicts the type going extinct first
Is There a Correlation for Companies With a Strong Employment Brand Between Employee Engagement Levels and Bottom Line Results?
The concept of employer brand was first introduced in 1996, where the authors defined “employer brand” as “the package of functional, economic and psychological benefits provided by employment, and identified with the employing company” (Amber & Barrow, 1996). Initial application of employer brand in human resource management focused heavily on attracting and recruiting talents; However, a recent survey by People in Business Co. found that 42% of the 104 survey participants (organizations that are currently developing employer brands) focus as much internal as external (People in Business, 2010). Employer brand is recognized as a powerful tool to help employees to internalize corporate values (The Conference Board, 2001), to shape corporate culture (Backhaus & Tikoo, 2004), to engage employees, and to align talent management with business strategies (Kunerth & Mosley, 2011). SHRM’s survey in 2008 found that 61% of surveyed companies have had an employer brand, and that 25% were either developing or planning to do so within the next 12 months (SHRM, 2008)
What are the Key Factors in Managing Diversity and Inclusion Successfully in Large International Organizations?
Question: What are the key factors in managing diversity and inclusion successfully in large international organizations? Which companies are best in class and what does that entail
Impact of Talker Variation in Following Context on Resolving Lexical Ambiguities in Speech Recognition
Studies have shown that when a word in a sentence is hard to recognize, a listener relies on context occurring subsequent to the word in order to accurately identify the word. For example, when someone talking on the phone said The wing had feathers but the listener only heard The *ing had feathers due to cell-phone interference, the listener will tend to focus on following context (e.g., feathers) to understand it was the “wing” that "had feathers" rather than "thing" or "ring". The current study explores whether a listener will rely on following context if the target word (e.g., wing) was spoken by one talker and the following word (e.g., feathers) was spoken by another talker. Results show that the talker change neither weakens nor strengthens the influence of subsequent context on ambiguity resolution. No embarg
Nutrition policy in South Korea
Since 1970s, the economic and social development in South Korea, as well as dietary pattern, has undergone various changes. Concerns for the decreased nutrition quality and physical activities among Koreans, especially young population, call for a need of a holistic approach in national food and nutrition policy. The National Health Promotion Act of 1995 included national interventions and programs to deal with nutrition-related chronic diseases and obesity prevention. A nation-wide monitoring system, which includes nutrition and health examination survey, is being built and run by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and its affiliated organizations every three years. The Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) is another key agency undertaking national food and nutrition policies. The KFDA recently promulgated the national strategic plans for improving food safety and nutrition, focusing on children. Nutrition labelling policy for processed food is managed by KFDA and various education programs are developed and disseminated to enhance the awareness of nutrition labelling. The agency also makes standards and regulates foods for special dietary uses and health functional food. The Rural Development Administration (RDA) is responsible for maintaining the food composition database. Finally, the National School Lunch Program is mainly governed by the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development. The above central government agencies along with regional health centers are making efforts to promote the healthy eating habits in addition to constructing healthy environment by making laws and programs and by research and social marketing
Improving electronics with use: design to wear
Today\u27s products are designed to exude high fashion and flawless beauty, which are inevitably susceptible to deterioration over time, making the aesthetic value disappear due to wear and tear. The purpose of this thesis is to design modern products not only to improve their aesthetic value and meaning but also their usability, while taking advantage of wear and tear in order to improve value. The majority of previous studies focused on preventing the deterioration of products, whereas, this thesis approaches the opposite view of allowing wear to boost the product\u27s value, thereby improving functionality with desirable appearance by design. The electronics industry, with its constant technological advances, encourages an increasingly rapid obsolescence of goods and, therefore, consumers yearn for new goods with updated technology and a more attractive appearance. In this paper, I will discuss the marketing strategy known as planned obsolescence. I will look at the meaning of goods in a material culture to analyze the current situation and provide insight into the value of goods and human interaction during the use process. I will focus on wear and design factors to address new possibilities for a desirable experience and beauty from deterioration of the product. I will then conclude by proposing a prototype of a digital camera that accrues increasingly desirable beauty and functionality throughout its use. Quantitative research and qualitative research were used to identify problems and defined the way the problems are solved
