Context-Preserving Two-Stage Video Domain Translation for Portrait Stylization

Portrait stylization, which translates a real human face image into an artistically stylized image, has attracted considerable interest and many prior works have shown impressive quality in recent years. However, despite their remarkable performances in the image-level translation tasks, prior methods show unsatisfactory results when they are applied to the video domain. To address the issue, we propose a novel two-stage video translation framework with an objective function which enforces a model to generate a temporally coherent stylized video while preserving context in the source video. Furthermore, our model runs in real-time with the latency of 0.011 seconds per frame and requires only 5.6M parameters, and thus is widely applicable to practical real-world applications.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, CVPR 2023 Workshop on AI for Content Creatio

Limited data are available regarding comparative prognosis after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) versus deferral of revascularization in patients with intermediate stenosis with abnormal fractional flow reserve (FFR) but preserved coronary flow reserve (CFR). From the International Collaboration of Comprehensive Physiologic Assessment Registry (NCT03690713), a total of 330 patients (338 vessels) who had coronary stenosis with FFR ≀ 0.80 but CFR > 2.0 were selected for the current analysis. Patient-level clinical outcome was assessed by major adverse cardiac events (MACE) at 5 years, a composite of all-cause death, target-vessel myocardial infarction (MI), or target-vessel revascularization. Among the study population, 231 patients (233 vessels) underwent PCI and 99 patients (105 vessels) were deferred. During 5 years of follow-up, cumulative incidence of MACE was 13.0% (31 patients) without significant difference between PCI and deferred groups (12.7% vs. 14.0%, adjusted HR 1.301, 95% CI 0.611-2.769, P = 0.495). Multiple sensitivity analyses by propensity score matching and inverse probability weighting also showed no significant difference in patient-level MACE and vessel-specific MI or revascularization. In this hypothesis-generating study, there was no significant difference in clinical outcomes between PCI and deferred groups among patients with intermediate stenosis with FFR ≀ 0.80 but CFR > 2.0. Further study is needed to confirm this finding.Clinical Trial Registration: International Collaboration of Comprehensive Physiologic Assessment Registry (NCT03690713; registration date: 10/01/2018).S

Prognostic Implications of Fractional Flow Reserve After Coronary Stenting:A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

IMPORTANCE: Fractional flow reserve (FFR) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is generally considered to reflect residual disease. Yet the clinical relevance of post-PCI FFR after drug-eluting stent (DES) implantation remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical relevance of post-PCI FFR measurement after DES implantation. DATA SOURCES: MEDLINE, Embase, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were searched for relevant published articles from inception to June 18, 2022. STUDY SELECTION: Published articles that reported post-PCI FFR after DES implantation and its association with clinical outcomes were included. DATA EXTRACTION AND SYNTHESIS: Patient-level data were collected from the corresponding authors of 17 cohorts using a standardized spreadsheet. Meta-estimates for primary and secondary outcomes were analyzed per patient and using mixed-effects Cox proportional hazard regression with registry identifiers included as a random effect. All processes followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Individual Participant Data. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES: The primary outcome was target vessel failure (TVF) at 2 years, a composite of cardiac death, target vessel myocardial infarction (TVMI), and target vessel revascularization (TVR). The secondary outcome was a composite of cardiac death or TVMI at 2 years. RESULTS: Of 2268 articles identified, 29 studies met selection criteria. Of these, 28 articles from 17 cohorts provided data, including a total of 5277 patients with 5869 vessels who underwent FFR measurement after DES implantation. Mean (SD) age was 64.4 (10.1) years and 4141 patients (78.5%) were men. Median (IQR) post-PCI FFR was 0.89 (0.84-0.94) and 690 vessels (11.8%) had a post-PCI FFR of 0.80 or below. The cumulative incidence of TVF was 340 patients (7.2%), with cardiac death or TVMI occurring in 111 patients (2.4%) at 2 years. Lower post-PCI FFR significantly increased the risk of TVF (adjusted hazard ratio [HR] per 0.01 FFR decrease, 1.04; 95% CI, 1.02-1.05; P < .001). The risk of cardiac death or MI also increased inversely with post-PCI FFR (adjusted HR, 1.03; 95% CI, 1.00-1.07, P = .049). These associations were consistent regardless of age, sex, the presence of hypertension or diabetes, and clinical diagnosis. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: Reduced FFR after DES implantation was common and associated with the risks of TVF and of cardiac death or TVMI. These results indicate the prognostic value of post-PCI physiologic assessment after DES implantation

Evolution of the Tropical Response to Periodic Extratropical Thermal Forcing

This study examines the temporal evolution of the extratropically forced tropical response in an idealized aquaplanet model under equinox condition. We apply a surface thermal forcing in the northern extratropics that oscillates periodically in time. It is shown that tropical precipitation is unaltered by sufficiently high-frequency extratropical forcing. This sensitivity to the extratropical forcing periodicity arises from the critical time required for sea surface temperature (SST) adjustment. Low-frequency extratropical forcing grants sufficient time for atmospheric transient eddies to diffuse moist static energy to perturb the midlatitude SSTs outside the forcing region, as demonstrated by a one-dimensional energy balance model with a fixed diffusivity. As the transient eddies weaken in the subtropics, a further equatorward advection is accomplished by the Hadley circulation. The essential role of Hadley cell advection in connecting the subtropical signal to the equatorial region is supported by an idealized thermodynamical-advective model. Associated with the SST changes in the tropics is a meridional shift of the intertropical convergence zone. Since the time needed for SST adjustment increases with increasing mixed layer depth, the critical forcing period at which the extratropical forcing can affect the tropics scales linearly with the mixed layer depth. Our results highlight the important role of decadal-and-longer extratropical climate variability in shaping the tropical climate system. We also raise the possibility that the transient behavior of a tropical response forced by extratropical variability may be strongly dependent on cloud radiative effects

Huge Left Ventricular Thrombus and Apical Ballooning associated with Recurrent Massive Strokes in a Septic Shock Patient

    No full text
The most feared complication of left ventricular thrombus (LVT) is the occurrence of systemic thromboembolic events, especially in the brain. Herein, we report a patient with severe sepsis who suffered recurrent devastating embolic stroke. Transthoracic echocardiography revealed apical ballooning of the left ventricle with a huge LVT, which had not been observed in chest computed tomography before the stroke. This case emphasizes the importance of serial cardiac evaluation in patients with stroke and severe medical illness

Light-inducible receptor tyrosine kinases that regulate neurotrophin signalling

Receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) are a family of cell-surface receptors that have a key role in regulating critical cellular processes. Here, to understand and precisely control RTK signalling, we report the development of a genetically encoded, photoactivatable Trk (tropomyosin-related kinase) family of RTKs using a light-responsive module based on Arabidopsis thaliana cryptochrome 2. Blue-light stimulation (488-nm) of mammalian cells harbouring these receptors robustly upregulates canonical Trk signalling. A single light stimulus triggers transient signalling activation, which is reversibly tuned by repetitive delivery of blue-light pulses. In addition, the light-provoked process is induced in a spatially restricted and cell-specific manner. A prolonged patterned illumination causes sustained activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase and promotes neurite outgrowth in a neuronal cell line, and induces filopodia formation in rat hippocampal neurons. These light-controllable receptors are expected to create experimental opportunities to spatiotemporally manipulate many biological processes both in vitro and in vivo. © 2014 Macmillan Publishers Limited.139391Nsciescopu

Prognostic Implications of Resistive Reserve Ratio in Patients With Coronary Artery Disease.

Background Resistive reserve ratio is a thermodilution-based index which integrates both coronary flow and pressure. Resistive reserve ratio represents the vasodilatory capacity of interrogated vessels including both epicardial coronary artery and microvascular circulation. We evaluated the prognostic potential of resistive reserve ratio compared with pressure-derived index (fractional flow reserve [FFR]) or flow-derived index (coronary flow reserve [CFR]). Methods and Results A total of 1245 patients underwent coronary pressure and flow measurement using pressure-temperature wire. Resistive reserve ratio was calculated by CFR adjusted using the ratio between resting and hyperemic distal coronary pressure ([resting mean transit time/hyperemic mean transit time]×[resting distal coronary pressure/hyperemic distal coronary pressure]). Clinical outcome was assessed by patient-oriented composite outcome (POCO), a composite of any death, myocardial infarction, and revascularization at 5 years. At 5 years, the cumulative incidence of POCO was significantly different according to quartiles of resistive reserve ratio (9.9%, 11.3%, 17.2%, and 22.7% in quartiles 1 to 4, respectively, log rank P0.80 or patients with CFR>2.0. (FFR>0.80 group: 14.8% versus 6.0%; log rank P=0.001; CFR>2.0 group: 13.5% versus 7.1%; log rank P=0.045). Adding resistive reserve ratio into the model for 5-year POCO showed significantly higher global Chi square value than FFR or CFR (P<0.001, respectively, for FFR and CFR). Resistive reserve ratio <3.5 was significantly associated with the risk of POCO at 5 years in multivariable model (adjusted hazard ratio 1.597, 95% CI, 1.098-2.271, P=0.014). Conclusions Resistive reserve ratio, which integrated both coronary flow and pressure, showed incremental prognostic implications in patients with coronary artery disease undergoing elective percutaneous coronary intervention guided by invasive physiologic evaluation.
