Aesthetic Worlds: Rimbaud, Williams and Baroque Form
The sense of form that provides the modern poet with a unique experience of the literary object has been crucial to various attempts to compare poetry to other cultural activities. In maintaining similar conceptions of the relationship between poetry and painting, Arthur Rimbaud and W. C. Williams establish a common basis for interpreting their creative work. And yet their poetry is more crucially concerned with the sudden emergence of visible "worlds" containing verbal objects that integrate a new kind of literary text. This paper discusses the emergence of "aesthetic worlds" in the work of both poets and then examines how a common concern with Baroque form unites them in the phenomenological task of overcoming Cartesian dualism
The Transcendental Dimension of Phenomenology
This short text to follow is an attempt at philosophizing free-style ; an attempt, that is, which does not concern itself with much recourse to primary or secondary literature. Hence, references to texts by the philosophers mentioned here are kept to a minimum. The purpose of this text, instead, is to initiate a fundamental reflection , as one could call it, on the nature of phenomenology. May the reader indulge me in this free-styling activity, and I would welcome equally unburdened responses
Frequency Analysis of Atrial Fibrillation From the Surface Electrocardiogram
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia encountered in clinical practice. Neither the natural history of AF nor its response to therapy are sufficiently predictable by clinical and echocardiographic parameters.
Atrial fibrillatory frequency (or rate) can reliably be assessed from the surface electrocardiogram (ECG) using digital signal processing (filtering, subtraction of averaged QRST complexes, and power spectral analysis) and shows large inter-individual variability. This measurement correlates well with intraatrial cycle length, a parameter which appears to have primary importance in AF domestication and response to therapy. AF with a low fibrillatory rate is more likely to terminate spontaneously, and responds better to antiarrhythmic drugs or cardioversion while high rate AF is more often persistent and refractory to therapy.
In conclusion, frequency analysis of AF seems to be useful for non-invasive assessment of electrical remodeling in AF and may subsequently be helpful for guiding AF therapy

The lamentation of Job (Job 31:35) needed to be answered by God, whom Job considered extremely unjust by causing great sufferings into his life. His three closed friends (Eliphaz, Bildad and Zophar) were rather his enemies in defending the traditional thesis of retribution. Although he pleaded against God, he found no answer from God. In his desperation, finally, Job appealed to a legal metaphor against God, and in this moment Elihu appeared as an arbiter, who presupposed to judge Job in God\u27s stead, and tried to respond to Job\u27s requests in judicial style. Elihu tried to convince Job that God did hear his lamentation and answered him. Only Job could not hear it, since God was greater than human beings and He answered in unpredictable ways, in this case He was talking “through dreams” as “a divine revelation”. Dream was God\u27s effort to turn Job from wrongful deeds or pride (Job\u27s arrogance in assuming complete integrity before God). It tended to warn Job to change his attitude into a faithful life
TRUFAS, a wavelet based algorithm for the rapid detection of planetary transits
Aims: We describe a fast, robust and automatic detection algorithm, TRUFAS,
and apply it to data that are being expected from the CoRoT mission. Methods:
The procedure proposed for the detection of planetary transits in light curves
works in two steps: 1) a continuous wavelet transformation of the detrended
light curve with posterior selection of the optimum scale for transit
detection, and 2) a period search in that selected wavelet transformation. The
detrending of the light curves are based on Fourier filtering or a discrete
wavelet transformation. TRUFAS requires the presence of at least 3 transit
events in the data. Results: The proposed algorithm is shown to identify
reliably and quickly the transits that had been included in a standard set of
999 light curves that simulate CoRoT data. Variations in the pre-processing of
the light curves and in the selection of the scale of the wavelet transform
have only little effect on TRUFAS' results. Conclusions: TRUFAS is a robust and
quick transit detection algorithm, especially well suited for the analysis of
very large volumes of data from space or ground-based experiments, with long

Non-invasive estimation of left atrial dominant frequency in atrial fibrillation from different electrode sites: Insight from body surface potential mapping

The dominant driving sources of atrial fibrillation are often found in the left atrium, but the expression of left atrial activation on the body surface is poorly understood. Using body surface potential mapping and simultaneous invasive measurements of left atrial activation our aim was to describe the expression of the left atrial dominant fibrillation frequency across the body surface. 20 patients in atrial fibrillation were studied. The spatial distributions of the dominant atrial fibrillation frequency across anterior and posterior sites on the body surface were quantified. Their relationship with invasive left atrial dominant fibrillation frequency was assessed by linear regression analysis, and the coefficient of determination was calculated for each body surface site. Von der mannigfaltigen Bedeutung der Reduktion nach Husserl: Reflexionen zur Grundbedeutung des zentralen Begriffs der transzendentalen Phänomenologie
This paper takes a renewed look at Husserl\u27s method of the phenomenological reduction. It interprets the reduction as shorthand for the meaning of Husserl\u27s entire phenomenology in its mature stage. In the same way, the method of reduction might have different manners of execution but they are nevertheless guided by a common intent. The text takes its starting point by considering the different metaphors Husserl uses - the flatland creatures and the reduction as akin to a religious conversion - and spells out their implications, which lead me to consider their metaphilosophical significance. In this way, this article attempts a metaphilosophical reading of the meaning of the reduction in Husserl, which is equal to considering the meaning philosophy has for Husserl in the most general terms. In this way, some unorthodox reflections are carried out that shed new light on central phenomenological concepts, such as evidence and eidetic variation, phenomenology as a form of transcendental idealism, and the notorious problem of the lifeworld. In this way, Husserl\u27s phenomenology is interpreted as a peculiar representative of Enlightenment philosophy that restitutes a special notion of responsibility
