Seroepidemiologi Nipah Virus Pada Kalong Dan Ternak Babi Di Beberapa Wilayah Di Indonesia
Nipah Virus Seroepidemiology in Flying Fox and Pig Husbandry in Several Areasof Indonesia. Nipah is a dangerous zoonotic disease which was carried by flying fox.The disease had been occurred in Malaysia in 1999 and infect pigs and caused humandeath. Indonesia is adjacent country to Malaysia, hence, a serological study had beenconducted on 156 flying fox (P. vampyrus) sera from North Sumatera, West Java, CentralJava and East Java. Besides that, 2740 pig sera was randomly collected in differentprovinces to detect Nipah infection. Both flying fox and pig sera were tested usingELISA test to detect the presence of Nipah antibody. The results indicated that 37 from156 flying fox sera (23.7%) has antibodies against Nipah virus. Infections were occuredin all sampling sites with the prevalence varied from 18% to 33 %. Meanwhile, no pigsera tested (2740) had antibody against Nipah virus. Based on these results it can beconcluded that Nipah virus infections were occurred in flying fox in some parts inIndonesia, but not in pigs. It was suggested that the presence of Nipah virus in Indonesiashould be anticipated. Hence the distribution of its infection in pigs and human must beanticipated. Monitoring of Nipah infection in areas adjacent to Malaysia must be increasedto detect the entering of the disease in Indonesia
Thermodynamic properties of binary HCP solution phases from special quasirandom structures
Three different special quasirandom structures (SQS) of the substitutional
hcp binary random solutions (, 0.5, and 0.75) are
presented. These structures are able to mimic the most important pair and
multi-site correlation functions corresponding to perfectly random hcp
solutions at those compositions. Due to the relatively small size of the
generated structures, they can be used to calculate the properties of random
hcp alloys via first-principles methods. The structures are relaxed in order to
find their lowest energy configurations at each composition. In some cases, it
was found that full relaxation resulted in complete loss of their parental
symmetry as hcp so geometry optimizations in which no local relaxations are
allowed were also performed. In general, the first-principles results for the
seven binary systems (Cd-Mg, Mg-Zr, Al-Mg, Mo-Ru, Hf-Ti, Hf-Zr, and Ti-Zr) show
good agreement with both formation enthalpy and lattice parameters measurements
from experiments. It is concluded that the SQS's presented in this work can be
widely used to study the behavior of random hcp solutions.Comment: 15 pages, 8 figure
The Effects of Serotonin Receptor Antagonists on Contraction and Relaxation Responses Induced by Electrical Stimulation in the Rat Small Intestine
Background: The main source of 5-HT in body is in enterchromafin cells of intestine, different studies mentioned different roles for endogenous 5-HT and receptors involved and it is not clearified the mechanism of action of endogenous 5-HT.
Objectives: To study the role of endogenous 5-HT on modulation of contraction and relaxation responses induced by electrical field stimulation (EFS) in different regions of the rat intestine.
Materials and Methods: Segments taken from the rat duodenum, jejunum, mid and terminal ileum were vertically mounted, connected to a transducer and exposed to EFS with different frequencies in the absence and presence of various inhibitors of enteric mediators i. e. specific 5-HT receptor antagonists.
Results: EFS-induced responses were sensitive to TTX and partly to atropine, indicating a major neuronal involvement and a cholinergic system. Pre-treatment with WAY100635 (a 5-HT1A receptor antagonist) and granisetron up to 10.0 µM, GR113808 (a 5-HT4 receptor antagonist), methysergide and ritanserin up to 1.0 µM, failed to modify responses to EFS inall examined tissues. In the presence of SB258585 1.0 µM (a 5-HT6 receptor antagonist) there was a trend to enhance contraction in the proximal part of the intestine and reduce contraction in the distal part. Pre-treatment with SB269970A 1.0 µM (5-HT7 receptor antagonist) induced a greater contractile response to EFS at 0.4 Hz only in the duodenum.
Conclusions: The application of 5-HT1A, 5-HT2, 5-HT3, 5-HT4, 5-HT6 and 5-HT7 receptor antagonists, applied at concentrations lower than 1.0 µM did not modify the EFS-induced contraction and relaxation responses, whichsuggests the unlikely involvement of endogenous 5-HT in mediating responses to EFS in the described test conditions.

Graded and Binary Responses in Stochastic Gene Expression
Recently, several theoretical and experimental studies have been undertaken
to probe the effect of stochasticity on gene expression (GE). In experiments,
the GE response to an inducing signal in a cell, measured by the amount of
mRNAs/proteins synthesized, is found to be either graded or binary. The latter
type of response gives rise to a bimodal distribution in protein levels in an
ensemble of cells. One possible origin of binary response is cellular
bistability achieved through positive feedback or autoregulation. In this
paper, we study a simple, stochastic model of GE and show that the origin of
binary response lies exclusively in stochasticity. The transitions between the
active and inactive states of the gene are random in nature. Graded and binary
responses occur in the model depending on the relative stability of the
activated and deactivated gene states with respect to that of
mRNAs/proteins.The theoretical results on binary response provide a good
description of the ``all-or-none'' phenomenon observed in an eukaryotic system.Comment: to be published in Physical Biolog
Constraints on Galaxy Bias, Matter Density, and Primordial Non--Gausianity from the PSCz Galaxy Redshift Survey
We compute the bispectrum for the \IRAS PSCz catalog and find that the galaxy
distribution displays the characteristic signature of gravity. Assuming
Gaussian initial conditions, we obtain galaxy biasing parameters
and , with no sign of
scale-dependent bias for h/Mpc. These results impose stringent
constraints on non-Gaussian initial conditions. For dimensional scaling models
with statistics, we find N>49, which implies a constraint on

All-Optical Broadband Excitation of the Motional State of Trapped Ions
We have developed a novel all-optical broadband scheme for exciting,
amplifying and measuring the secular motion of ions in a radio frequency trap.
Oscillation induced by optical excitation has been coherently amplified to
precisely control and measure the ion's secular motion. Requiring only laser
line-of-sight, we have shown that the ion's oscillation amplitude can be
precisely controlled. Our excitation scheme can generate coherent motion which
is robust against variations in the secular frequency. Therefore, our scheme is
ideal to excite the desired level of oscillatory motion under conditions where
the secular frequency is evolving in time. Measuring the oscillation amplitude
through Doppler velocimetry, we have characterized the experimental parameters
and compared them with a molecular dynamics simulation which provides a
