Preview estimation and control for (semi-) active suspensions
An active suspension with preview is tested for rounded pulses and a stochastic road surface, and is compared to a passive suspension. The spectacular performance improvement obtained for a step function as road surface is not achieved but the improvement is still significant. The frequency response of the active suspension is determined for comparison with some suspension systems found in literature. An observer to reconstruct the preview information is presented. No model of the road surface is needed. From simulations, it appears that the observer reconstructs both deterministic and stochastic road surfaces satisfactory. However, the influence of measurement noise is not reduced sufficiently
Incidence and Predictors of Maternal Cardiovascular Mortality and Severe Morbidity in the Netherlands: A Prospective Cohort Study
Objective: To assess incidence and possible risk factors of severe maternal morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular disease in the Netherlands. Design: A prospective population based cohort study. Setting: All 98 maternity units in the Netherlands. Population: All women delivering in the Netherlands between August 2004 and August 2006 (n = 371,021) Methods: Cases of severe maternal morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular disease were prospectively collected during a two-year period in the Netherlands. Women with cardiovascular complications during pregnancy or postpartum who were admitted to the ward, intensive care or coronary care unit were included. Cardiovascular morbidity was defined as cardiomyopathy, valvular disease, ischaemic heart disease, arrhythmias or aortic dissection. All women delivering in the same period served as a reference cohort. Main outcome measures: Incidence, case fatality rates and possible risk factors. Results: Incidence of severe maternal morbidity due to cardiovascular disease was 2.3 per 10,000 deliveries (84/358,874). Maternal mortality rate from cardiovascular disease was 3.0 per 100,000 deliveries (11/358,874). Case fatality rate in women with severe maternal morbidity due to cardiovascular disease was 13% (11/84). Case fatality rate was highes
Maintenance spare parts planning and control : a framework for control and agenda for future research
This paper presents a framework for planning and control of the spare parts supply chain in organizations that use and maintain high-value capital assets. Decisions in the framework are decomposed hierarchically and interfaces are described. We provide relevant literature to aid decision making and identify open research topics. The framework can be used to increase the e??ciency, consistency and sustainability of decisions on how to plan and control a spare parts supply chain. Applicability of the framework in di??erent environments is investigated

Amoxicillin pharmacokinetics in preterm infants with gestational ages of less than 32 weeks
The multiple-dose pharmacokinetics of amoxicillin (AM [administered twice
daily in a 25-mg/kg of body weight intravenous dose]) in 17 preterm
infants (11 males; gestational age, 29 +/- 1.9 weeks; birth weight, 1,175
+/- 278 g) were evaluated on day 3 of life. Blood samples were collected
from an arterial catheter at 0, 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 8, and 12 h after the
intravenous dose. A high-performance liquid chromatography method was used
to determine AM concentrations in serum. AM pharmacokinetics followed a
one-compartment open model. The glomerular filtration rates of all
patients were simultaneously studied by means of the 24-h continuous
inulin infusion technique. The elimination half-life, apparent volume of
distribution, and total body clearance of AM (mean +/- standard deviation)
were 6.7 +/- 1.7 h, 584 +/- 173 ml, and 62.4 +/- 23.3 ml/h, respectively.
The mean (+/- standard deviation) AM peak and trough levels were 53.6 +/-
9.1 and 16.0 +/- 4.9 mg/liter, respectively. All infants had a serum
trough level above 5 mg/liter. The total body clearance and apparent
volume of distribution of AM and the clearance of inulin increased
significantly with increasing gestational age. The total bod
