    Total Water Management System

    Get PDF
    The purpose of this pilot project is to embark on a total water management system (TWMS) that enables the efficient and effective management of water by addressing both quantity and quality aspects through real time water quality monitoring, water usage monitoring and water leakage monitoring in water distribution network. TWMS is a previous project embarked on by Universiti Teknologi PERONAS (UTP) research community, which is a wireless sensor network (WSN) testbed set up in one of the research laboratories in UTP. In this project, the major work shall focus on implementing a wireless solution in UTP students' villages, to provide a WSN data collection for monitoring and analysis purposes hence the objective is to find an optimal water management solution. The targeted monitoring and control setup would be the wash rooms located at the selected levels and selected houses of each male and female village. Wireless sensors that are installed on the strategic water pipes will be used to measure the water usage, water leakage, and water quality. All data collected would be transmitted automatically to a lab server for storage, archive, and analysis. Command and control signaling can be transmitted wirelessly to control the possible leakages. The outcome of this project shall provide vital statistics and information on the managing and control of water losses, which ultimately may contribute to the improvement of the sustainability of clean water supply and distribution. Moreover this project might provide a platform for wireless sensor technology to become a strategic enabler for a total water management syste

    Carbon fiber-reinforced polymer, also known as carbon fiber-reinforced plastic is a type of composite polymer which is extremely strong and light. Manufacturers will select to use this material on high-end quality products such as exotic sports car, oil and gas equipment, aerospace and so on when there is a need of high strength-to-weight ratio specification. This project discusses on the fabrication of different arrangement of various sizes of carbon fiber tow wind to HDPE composite pipe (CFWHCP) and their mechanical properties. 2 types of sample with winding angle of 57°: CFWHCP of 6 fiber tows of same size (12k) and different size (12k and 6k); were fabricated with epoxy as the matrix in SIRIM Permatang Pauh. No fiber triangle potential voids of the samples were studied through SEM analysis. It was found that the no-fiber triangle void for 12k and 6k sample is larger than 12k sample. This is due to the arrangement of fiber tow which will be discussed more in problem statement in chapter 1.2. Literature review in chapter 2.2 proved that void content is inversely proportional to the mechanical strength of material. Through result analysis in dog-boned tensile test, hoop tensile test, axial & lateral quasi static loading test in chapter 3.2.5, it is proven that 12k sample with smaller void is better and higher in terms of failure mode, energy absorption and Young’s modulus

    Tuberculosis(TB)is a chronic infectious disease with high rate of morbidity and mortality world wide, and it is easy to relapse. TB can involve multiple organs, when it infects eye, it can cause lesions in anterior segment, posterior segment and the accessory organs of the eye. The purpose of this paper is to describe the clinical manifestation of intraocular TB, its diagnosis and treatment

    Background: Previous studies suggest that the X-ray repair cross-complementing group 3 gene (XRCC3) Thr241Met genetic variant could be potentially associated with the risk of prostate cancer. However, results from these published studies were conflicting rather than conclusive.Objectives:This meta-analysis aimed to conduct a better understanding of the effects of XRCC3 Thr241Met genetic variant on prostate cancer risk.Methods: We identified three eligible studies, 499 prostate cancer cases and 571 controls.Results: Overall, significant associations were detected in the heterozygote comparison genetic model (CT versus (vs.) CC: OR = 0.71, 95% CI 0.53-0.94, Z =2.38, p= 0.017), and the dominant genetic model (TT/CT vs. CC: OR = 0.74, 95% CI 0.57-0.98, Z = 2.11, p =0.035). In the subgroup analysis by ethnicities, we found that this genetic variant was significantly associated with the decrease risk of prostate cancer in Caucasians for heterozygote comparison genetic model (CT vs. CC: OR = 0.66, 95% CI 0.44-0.98, Z = 2.04, p = 0.042). No publication bias was found in this study.Conclusions: Results from this meta-analysis indicate that the XRCC3 Thr241Met genetic variant is associated with prostate cancer risk.Keywords: Prostate cancer; XRCC3 gene; Genetic variant; Meta-analysi

    Superconductivity and local-moment magnetism in Eu(Fe0.89_{0.89}Co0.11_{0.11})2_{2}As2_{2}

    We report the measurements of resistivity and magnetization under magnetic fields parallel and perpendicular to the basal plane, respectively, on a cobalt-doped Eu(Fe0.89_{0.89}Co0.11_{0.11})2_{2}As2_{2} single crystal. We observed a resistivity drop at Tc∼T_c\sim 21 K, which shifts toward lower temperatures under external fields, suggesting a superconducting transition. The upper critical fields near TcT_c show large anisotropy, in contrast with those of other '122' FeAs-based superconductors. Low-field magnetic susceptibility data also show evidence of superconductivity below 21 K. Instead of expected zero-resistance below TcT_c, however, a resistivity reentrance appears at 17 K under zero field, coincident with the magnetic ordering of Eu2+^{2+} moments. Based on the temperature and field dependences of anisotropic magnetization, a helical magnetic structure for the Eu2+^{2+} spins is proposed. External magnetic fields easily changes the helimagnetism into a ferromagnetism with fully polarized Eu2+^{2+} spins, accompanying by disappearance of the resistivity reentrance. Therefore, superconductivity coexists with ferromagnetic state of Eu2+^{2+} spins under relatively low magnetic field. The magnetic and superconducting phase diagrams are finally summarized for both H∥abH\parallel ab and H∥cH\parallel c.Comment: 8 pages, 10 figure
