Asymmetry Dependence of the Nuclear Caloric Curve
A basic feature of the nuclear equation of state is not yet understood: the
dependence of the nuclear caloric curve on the neutron-proton asymmetry.
Predictions of theoretical models differ on the magnitude and even the sign of
this dependence. In this work, the nuclear caloric curve is examined for fully
reconstructed quasi-projectiles around mass A=50. The caloric curve extracted
with the momentum quadrupole fluctuation thermometer shows that the temperature
varies linearly with quasi-projectile asymmetry (N-Z)/A. An increase in
asymmetry of 0.15 units corresponds to a decrease in temperature on the order
of 1 MeV. These results also highlight the importance of a full
quasi-projectile reconstruction in the study of thermodynamic properties of hot
nuclei
The association between distal findings and proximal colorectal neoplasia: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Objectives:
Whether screening participants with distal hyperplastic polyps (HPs) detected by flexible sigmoidoscopy (FS) should be followed by subsequent colonoscopy is controversial. We evaluated the association between distal HPs and proximal neoplasia (PN)/advanced proximal neoplasia (APN) in asymptomatic, average-risk patients.
Methods:
We searched Ovid Medline, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library from inception to 30 June 2016 and included all screening studies that examined the relationship between different distal findings and PN/APN. Data were independently extracted by two reviewers with disagreements resolved by a third reviewer. We pooled absolute risks and odds ratios (ORs) with a random effects meta-analysis. Seven subgroup analyses were performed according to study characteristics. Heterogeneity was characterized with theI2 statistics.
Results:
We analyzed 28 studies (104,961 subjects). When compared with normal distal findings, distal HP was not associated with PN (OR=1.16, 95% confidence interval (CI)=0.89–1.51,P=0.14,I2=40%) or APN (OR=1.09, 95% CI=0.87–1.36,P=0.39,I2=5%), while subjects with distal non-advanced or advanced adenoma had higher odds of PN/APN. Higher odds of PN/APN were observed for more severe distal lesions. Weaker association between distal and proximal findings was noticed in studies with higher quality, larger sample size, population-based design, and more stringent endoscopy quality-control measures. The Egger’s regression tests showed allP>0.05.
Conclusions:
Distal HP is not associated with PN/APN in asymptomatic screening population when compared with normal distal findings. Hence, the presence of distal HP alone detected by FS does not automatically indicate colonoscopy referral for all screening participants, as other risk factors of PN/APN should be considered
Measuring the Temperature of Hot Nuclear Fragments
A new thermometer based on fragment momentum fluctuations is presented. This
thermometer exhibited residual contamination from the collective motion of the
fragments along the beam axis. For this reason, the transverse direction has
been explored. Additionally, a mass dependence was observed for this
thermometer. This mass dependence may be the result of the Fermi momentum of
nucleons or the different properties of the fragments (binding energy, spin
etc..) which might be more sensitive to different densities and temperatures of
the exploding fragments. We expect some of these aspects to be smaller for
protons (and/or neutrons); consequently, the proton transverse momentum
fluctuations were used to investigate the temperature dependence of the source
Rapidity distribution as a probe for elliptical flow at intermediate energies
Interplay between the spectator and participant matter in heavy-ion
collisions is investigated within isospin dependent quantum molecular dynamics
(IQMD) model in term of rapidity distribution of light charged particles. The
effect of different types and size rapidity distributions is studied in
elliptical flow. The elliptical flow patterns show important role of the nearby
spectator matter on the participant zone. This role is further explained on the
basis of passing time of the spectator and expansion time of the participant
zone. The transition from the in-plane to out-of-plane is observed only when
the mid-rapidity region is included in the rapidity bin, otherwise no
transition occurs. The transition energy is found to be highly sensitive
towards the size of the rapidity bin, while weakly on the type of the rapidity
distribution. The theoretical results are also compared with the experimental
findings and are found in good agreement.Comment: 8 figure
Interplay of superexchange and orbital degeneracy in Cr-doped LaMnO3
We report on structural, magnetic and Electron Spin Resonance (ESR)
investigations in the manganite system LaMn_{1-x}Cr_{x}O_{3} (x<=0.5). Upon
Cr-doping we observe a reduction of the Jahn-Teller distortion yielding less
distorted orthorhombic structures. A transition from the Jahn-Teller distorted
O' to the pseudocubic O phase occurs between 0.3<x<0.4. A clear connection
between this transition and the doping dependence of the magnetic and ESR
properties has been observed. The effective moments determined by ESR seem
reduced with respect to the spin-only value of both Mn^{3+} and Cr^{3+} ions

In a sample of 58 million events collected with the BES II detector,
the process J/ is observed in five different decay

channels, we determine the mass and full-width of to be
