Effect of Charge Fluctuations on the Persistent Current through a Quantum Dot
We study coherent charge transfer between an Aharonov-Bohm ring and a
side-attached quantum dot. The charge fluctuation between the two
sub-structures is shown to give rise to algebraic suppression of the persistent
current circulating the ring as the size of the ring becomes relatively large.
The charge fluctuation at resonance provides transition between the diamagnetic
and the paramagnetic states.
Universal scaling, crossover behavior of the persistent current from a
continuous to a discrete energy limit in the ring is also discussed.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Measurement of Trace I-129 Concentrations in CsI Powder and Organic Liquid Scintillator with Accelerator Mass Spectrometry
Levels of trace radiopurity in active detector materials is a subject of
major concern in low-background experiments. Procedures were devised to measure
trace concentrations of I-129 in the inorganic salt CsI as well as in organic
liquid scintillator with Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) which leads to
improvement in sensitivities by several orders of magnitude over other methods.
No evidence of their existence in these materials were observed. Limits of < 6
X 10^{-13} g/g and < 2.6 X 10^{-17} g/g on the contaminations of I-129 in CsI
and liquid scintillator, respectively, were derived. These are the first results
in a research program whose goals are to develop techniques to measure trace
radioactivity in detector materials by AMS.Comment: Proceedings of 10th International Conference on Accelerator Mass

Pair excitations and parameters of state of imbalanced Fermi gases at finite temperatures
The spectra of low-lying pair excitations for an imbalanced two-component
superfluid Fermi gas are analytically derived within the path-integral
formalism taking into account Gaussian fluctuations about the saddle point. The
spectra are obtained for nonzero temperatures, both with and without imbalance,
and for arbitrary interaction strength. On the basis of the pair excitation
spectrum, we have calculated the thermodynamic parameters of state of cold
fermions and the first and second sound velocities. The parameters of pair
excitations show a remarkable agreement with the Monte Carlo data and with
experiment.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figure
Theoretical approach and impact of correlations on the critical packet generation rate in traffic dynamics on complex networks
Using the formalism of the biased random walk in random uncorrelated networks
with arbitrary degree distributions, we develop theoretical approach to the
critical packet generation rate in traffic based on routing strategy with local
information. We explain microscopic origins of the transition from the flow to
the jammed phase and discuss how the node neighbourhood topology affects the
transport capacity in uncorrelated and correlated networks.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure
Spin Fluctuation Induced Dephasing in a Mesoscopic Ring
We investigate the persistent current in a hybrid Aharonov-Bohm ring -
quantum dot system coupled to a reservoir which provides spin fluctuations. It
is shown that the spin exchange interaction between the quantum dot and the
reservoir induces dephasing in the absence of direct charge transfer. We
demonstrate an anomalous nature of this spin-fluctuation induced dephasing
which tends to enhance the persistent current. We explain our result in terms
of the separation of the spin from the charge degree of freedom. The nature of
the spin fluctuation induced dephasing is analyzed in detail.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
2D Mathematical Modeling For Fluvial Processes Considering The Influence Of Vegetation And Bank Erosion
A 2D mathematical model for fluvial processes capable of considering the influence of vegetation and non-cohesive bank erosion is established based on a body-fitted coordinate system in this paper. The authors have improved a previously developed simulation model by taking into account the impact of vegetation with a vegetation stress term in the momentum conservation equation. A simple simulation method is adopted in the bank erosion model. Simulation runs were performed for a conceptual alluvial channel, the results of channel plan-form and cross section changes suggest that the 2D model predictions agree acceptable with the classic theories of channel pattern formation considering the effect of vegetation
