Hainan sport tourism development—A SWOT analysis
Hainan, as a popular tourism destination, is well-promoted by the Chinese central government. In particular, both central and local governments encourage Hainan’s sport tourism-related professionals to develop sport tourism as one of the most important tourist activities in Hainan. However, previous research has not reported on Hainan’s sport tourism strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats as a tourism destination or a sports event host. This study uses SWOT analysis to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in the context of Hainan’s sport tourism development. A total of 12 dimensions, including branding, culture, finance, infrastructure, location, market, nature, policy, product, specialty, sustainability, and tourist were generated from our data analysis. In addition, a total of five future directions, including emphasizing event-oriented sport tourism, prioritizing sport motivation, identifying major sport tourism markets, making the rational use of sport tourism resources, and nurturing sport culture, are recommended as a result of this study
Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting among cancer patients in Shanghai: a cross-sectional study
Background and purpose: Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) can cause severe damage to body functions and even lead to death. The prevention of CINV is critically important in patients receiving emetogenic chemotherapy regimen. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and treatment of CINV in Grade-A tertiary hospitals in Shanghai and explore risk factors of CINV to improve its management. Methods: The clinical data of 376 cancer patients in Grade-A tertiary hospitals in Shanghai from October 2022 to December 2022 were collected retrospectively. The questionnaire was used to conduct a cross-sectional study. The univariate and multivariable logistic regression models were used to evaluate the influencing factors of CINV. Results: The management and coincidence of the guideline in 2022 significantly improved compared to five years ago. For patients receiving high-emetic-risk chemotherapy regimen, the coincidence of the guideline increased from 21.6% to 67.0%. For patients receiving moderate-emetic-risk chemotherapy regimen, the neurokinin-1 (NK-1) receptor antagonist was not significantly associated with CINV. Multivariable analysis showed that the chemotherapy regimen was the only risk factor for CINV during the whole period (P<0.05). Conclusion: The chemotherapy regimen is the main risk factor for CINV. To control CINV better, clinical practitioners should focus on the intrinsic risk of chemotherapy regimens preferentially, estimate the risk and adhere better to guidelines
Effects of Anacetrapib in Patients with Atherosclerotic Vascular Disease
BACKGROUND:
Patients with atherosclerotic vascular disease remain at high risk for cardiovascular events despite effective statin-based treatment of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels. The inhibition of cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) by anacetrapib reduces LDL cholesterol levels and increases high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels. However, trials of other CETP inhibitors have shown neutral or adverse effects on cardiovascular outcomes.
METHODS:
We conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving 30,449 adults with atherosclerotic vascular disease who were receiving intensive atorvastatin therapy and who had a mean LDL cholesterol level of 61 mg per deciliter (1.58 mmol per liter), a mean non-HDL cholesterol level of 92 mg per deciliter (2.38 mmol per liter), and a mean HDL cholesterol level of 40 mg per deciliter (1.03 mmol per liter). The patients were assigned to receive either 100 mg of anacetrapib once daily (15,225 patients) or matching placebo (15,224 patients). The primary outcome was the first major coronary event, a composite of coronary death, myocardial infarction, or coronary revascularization.
RESULTS:
During the median follow-up period of 4.1 years, the primary outcome occurred in significantly fewer patients in the anacetrapib group than in the placebo group (1640 of 15,225 patients [10.8%] vs. 1803 of 15,224 patients [11.8%]; rate ratio, 0.91; 95% confidence interval, 0.85 to 0.97; P=0.004). The relative difference in risk was similar across multiple prespecified subgroups. At the trial midpoint, the mean level of HDL cholesterol was higher by 43 mg per deciliter (1.12 mmol per liter) in the anacetrapib group than in the placebo group (a relative difference of 104%), and the mean level of non-HDL cholesterol was lower by 17 mg per deciliter (0.44 mmol per liter), a relative difference of -18%. There were no significant between-group differences in the risk of death, cancer, or other serious adverse events.
CONCLUSIONS:
Among patients with atherosclerotic vascular disease who were receiving intensive statin therapy, the use of anacetrapib resulted in a lower incidence of major coronary events than the use of placebo. The Impact of Parental Educational Expectations and Parental Education on Adolescent Academics
In today's rapidly developing era, an increasing number of parents hope that their children will have good academic performance and a bright future. Both parental expectations and educational attainment can influence a child's academic level. Excessive expectations can have a negative impact on a child's academic performance, and higher educational attainment can also affect intergenerational expectations. This study is based on data from the China Education Panel Survey (CEPS), using correlation analysis and ANOVA to explore the effects of parental educational expectations and parental educational attainment on the academic performance of adolescents. The results of the study revealed that there is a significant positive correlation between parental expectations and academic performance. However, the impact of parental educational attainment differs between fathers and mothers, with only the mother's educational attainment having an influence on a child's academic performance. We recommend that parents should maintain a moderate level of expectation to ensure that their child's academic performance is at a high level. At the same time, there should be a balance between fathers' and mothers' investment in education
Spatial Assessment of Anthropogenic Impact on Trace Metal Accumulation in Farmland Soils from a Rapid Industrializing Region, East China
A better understanding of anthropogenic trace metal accumulation in farmland soils is crucial for local food safety and public health, especially for a rapidly industrializing region. In this study, soil samples at two depths were collected from a typical county in East China and analyzed for total concentrations of Fe, Al, Pb, Cd, Cu, Zn, Cr, and Ni. Results showed that trace metals like Pb, Cd, Cu, Zn, Cr, and Ni have accumulated in the regional farmlands, with average topsoil concentrations 1.62–1.77 times higher than their background concentrations in subsoil. However, they were still much lower than the limits of the Chinese Environmental Quality Standard for Soils. By the proper calculation of enrichment factor (EF), it was found that the accumulations of trace metals in the topsoil have been impacted by anthropogenic activities, which could contribute up to 40.83% of total metal concentration. Two principal components were extracted according to the results of principal component analysis (PCA) for EF values, which indicated two important anthropogenic trace metal sources. With the help of spatial distribution maps based on geographical information system (GIS), the anthropogenic sources of Pb, Cr, and Ni were determined to be mostly associated with atmospheric deposition from the central urban area. However, Cd, Cu, and Zn were further confirmed to originate from different agricultural sources. The anthropogenic Cu and Zn inputs were mostly related to pig manure application in the rural northern and southeastern areas, while extensive fertilizer application was identified as the major contributor to anthropogenic Cd accumulation in this region. Overall, the integrated application of EF, PCA, and GIS mapping is an effective approach to achieve the spatial assessment of anthropogenic impact on trace metal accumulation in regional soils
Investigation of the Performance of Ceramic Fiber Modified Asphalt Mixture
Ceramic fiber (CF) is a novel thermally resistant material with the potential to improve the high-temperature performance of asphalt mixture. In this study, asphalt mixtures with 0%, 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3%, 0.4%, and 0.5% CFs were prepared. The Marshall test, wheel tracking test, Marshall immersion test, freeze-thaw splitting test, and low-temperature bending test were conducted to evaluate the performance of the CF-modified asphalt mixture. The morphologies of these asphalt mixtures were observed using scanning electron microscopy to analyze the modification mechanism. The results showed that the CFs could improve the mechanical properties, high-temperature stability, moisture susceptibility, and low-temperature cracking resistance of asphalt mixture, with the optimum CF content being 0.4%. Further microscopic analysis showed that the CFs improved the performances of asphalt mixture through forming three-dimensional network structure, asphalt absorption, bridging cracks, and pulling-out effect
The effect of phase separation on crystallization of polyethylene/poly(ethylene-alt-propylene) blend
The influence of liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS) on crystallization kinetics in off-critical and near-critical blends of polyethylene/poly(ethylene-alt-propylene) (PE/PEP) is studied to explore the origin of the two crystallization peaks in differential scanning calorimetry with the same long period. The PE/PEP blend systems show upper critical solution temperature (UCST) type of phase diagram and the crystallization temperature of PE component is much lower than the UCST, LLPS occurs first. The crystal nuclei first form at the interface region of two phases and then it is necessary for the PE chains to diffuse there to continue the crystallization process from both PE-rich and PEP-rich regions. As a result, the crystallization kinetics pathway is dynamically influenced by LLPS period of time, quench depth and initial composition because they control inter-diffusion coefficient in both phases. In the off-critical blend, the LLPS is extremely slow. The area ratio of the two DSC crystallization peaks doesn't fit with the ratio of coexistence compositions of PE in PE-rich and PEP-rich phases until LLPS has reached its equilibrium before crystallization. The crystallization of PE dominates the final morphology. Small and randomly dispersed crystals could be observed because the inter-diffusion of PE chains in PEP-rich phase is greatly hindered and they could not contribute to the formation of more perfect crystals. In the near-critical blend, LLPS kinetics is comparatively much faster, so the area of the two DCS crystallization peaks agrees with the coexistence compositions of PE. LLPS is the key factor to determine the final morphology
Multiple objective optimization based on particle swarm algorithm for MMC-MTDC system
Multi-terminal high voltage DC (MTDC) network is an effective technology to integrate large-scale offshore wind energy sources into conventional AC grids and improve the stability and flexibility of the power system. In this paper, firstly, an analytical model of a general applicable MTDC system integrated with several isolated AC grids is established. Then, an improved AC-DC power flow algorithm is used to eliminate the additional DC slack bus or droop bus iteration (SBI/DBI) step of the conventional AC-DC sequential power flow. A multi-objective optimal power flow (MOPF) algorithm is proposed to minimize two optimization targets, i.e., overall active power loss and generation costs of the system. To increase the degree of freedom, adaptive droop control is used in the proposed optimization algorithm in which the voltage references and droop coefficients of the modular multilevel converters (MMCs) are control variables. A multiple objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) method is applied to solve the MOPF problem and achieve the Pareto front. A chain mediation model reveals the association between family sense of coherence and quality of life in caregivers of advanced cancer patients
Abstract Caregivers of advanced cancer patients face challenges impacting their quality of life (QoL). While evidence suggests that family sense of coherence (FSOC) can enhance individual psychological well-being and reduce distress symptoms, the precise mechanism through which FSOC improves caregivers' QoL remains unclear. This study aimed to explore the relationships among FSOC, psychological resilience, psychological distress, and QoL in primary caregivers of advanced cancer patients. A cross-sectional observational study was undertaken from June 2020 to March 2021 across five tertiary hospitals in China. Instruments included a general characteristic questionnaire, the Family Sense of Coherence Scale, the Patient Health Questionnaire-4, the 10-item Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale, and the 8-item SF-8 health survey. Pearson’s correlation and chain mediation analyses were performed using IBM SPSS (version 21) and PROCESS macro (version 3.4). Out of 290 valid questionnaires, results demonstrated that FSOC directly and positively influences caregivers' QoL. Psychological distress partially mediated the FSOC-QoL association, with paths "FSOC-psychological distress-QoL" and "FSOC-psychological resilience-psychological distress-QoL" contributing 43.08% and 6.72% of the total effect, respectively. Furthermore, this study distinguished physical and mental aspects of QoL, confirming both conform to the chain mediation model. FSOC impacts caregivers' QoL directly and indirectly through the mediation of psychological distress and the chain mediation effect of "psychological resilience-psychological distress". These insights enhance our understanding of the complex interplay between FSOC and QoL, underscoring the potential benefits of bolstering FSOC to strengthen caregiver resilience, alleviate distress, and ultimately elevate their QoL
