    Numerical Model on Sound-Solid Coupling in Human Ear and Study on Sound Pressure of Tympanic Membrane

    Establishment of three-dimensional finite-element model of the whole auditory system includes external ear, middle ear, and inner ear. The sound-solid-liquid coupling frequency response analysis of the model was carried out. The correctness of the FE model was verified by comparing the vibration modes of tympanic membrane and stapes footplate with the experimental data. According to calculation results of the model, we make use of the least squares method to fit out the distribution of sound pressure of external auditory canal and obtain the sound pressure function on the tympanic membrane which varies with frequency. Using the sound pressure function, the pressure distribution on the tympanic membrane can be directly derived from the sound pressure at the external auditory canal opening. The sound pressure function can make the boundary conditions of the middle ear structure more accurate in the mechanical research and improve the previous boundary treatment which only applied uniform pressure acting to the tympanic membrane

    Ignition and Flame Stabilization of a Strut-Jet RBCC Combustor with Small Rocket Exhaust

    A Rocket Based Combined Cycle combustor model is tested at a ground direct connected rig to investigate the flame holding characteristics with a small rocket exhaust using liquid kerosene. The total temperature and the Mach number of the vitiated air flow, at exit of the nozzle are 1505 K and 2.6, respectively. The rocket base is embedded in a fuel injecting strut and mounted in the center of the combustor. The wall of the combustor is flush, without any reward step or cavity, so the strut-jet is used to make sure of the flame stabilization of the second combustion. Mass flow rate of the kerosene and oxygen injected into the rocket is set to be a small value, below 10% of the total fuel when the equivalence ratio of the second combustion is 1. The experiment has generated two different kinds of rocket exhaust: fuel rich and pure oxygen. Experiment result has shown that, with a relative small total mass flow rate of the rocket, the fuel rich rocket plume is not suitable for ignition and flame stabilization, while an oxygen plume condition is suitable. Then the paper conducts a series of experiments to investigate the combustion characteristics under this oxygen pilot method and found that the flame stabilization characteristics are different at different combustion modes

    Association between TGFBR1*6A and osteosarcoma: A Chinese case-control study

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>TGFBR1*6A is a common hypomorphic variant of transforming growth factor β receptor 1 (TGFBR1). TGFBR1*6A is associated with an increased cancer risk, but the association of this polymorphism with osteosarcoma remains unknown. We have measured the frequency of TGFBR1*6A variants in osteosarcoma cases and controls.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Our case-control study is based on 168 osteosarcoma patients and 168 age- and gender-matched controls. Blood samples were obtained and the TGFBR1*6A variant determined by PCR amplification and DNA sequencing. The odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) for the TGFBR1*6A polymorphism were calculated by unconditional logistic regression, adjusted for both age and gender. Three models - dominant, additive and recessive - were used to analyze the contribution of the TGFBR1*6A variant to osteosarcoma susceptibility.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Heterozygotic and homozygotic TGFBR1*6A variants represented 50.4% and 6.0% of the 168 cases, whereas the controls had 18. 5% and 1.3%, respectively. ORs for homozygosity and heterozygosity of the TGFBR1*6A allele were 4.6 [95% CI, 2.33-7.97] and 2.9 [95% CI, 1.59-5.34] in the additive model. There were significant increases in the TGFBR1*6A variants in osteosarcoma cases compared to control in all 3 models. Further analysis showed that TGFBR1*6A genotypes were not associated with gender, age, or tumor location. However, TGFBR1*6A was significantly associated with less metastasis.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>TGFBR1*6A, a dominant polymorphism of TGFBR1, is associated with increased susceptibility and metastasis spread of osteosarcoma.</p

    Intrinsic Percolative Superconductivity in KxFe2-ySe2 Single Crystals

    Magnetic field penetration and magnetization hysteresis loops (MHLs) have been measured in KxFe2-ySe2 single crystals. The magnetic field penetration shows a two-step feature with a very small full-magnetic-penetration field (Hp1= 300 Oe at 2 K), and accordingly the MHL exhibits an abnormal vanishing of the central peak near zero field below 13 K. The width of the MHL in KxFe2-ySe2 at the same temperature is in general much smaller than that measured in the relatives Ba0.6K0.4Fe2As2 and Ba(Fe0.92Co0.08)2As2, and the MHLs in the latter two samples show the normal central peak near zero field. All these anomalies found in KxFe2-ySe2 can be understood in the picture that the sample is percolative with weakly coupled superconducting islands.Comment: 5 page, 4 figure

    Carbon dioxide partial pressures and emissions of the Yarlung Tsangpo River on the Tibetan Plateau

    Rivers are important routes for material and energy transport between terrestrial and marine ecosystems. Recent global-scale assessments of carbon (C) have suggested that C emission fluxes to the atmosphere are comparable to the fluvial C fluxes to the ocean. However, many previous studies only collected data from inland rivers in low altitude regions. Therefore, it remains unclear how plateau rivers affect C flux. In this study, 20 monitoring sites were set up along the Yarlung Tsangpo (YT) River on the Tibetan Plateau and detailed observations were carried out in the wet and dry seasons. The riverine CO2 fluxes exhibited significant seasonal patterns which ranged from 597.12 ± 292.63 μatm in the wet season to 368.72 ± 123.50 μatm in the dry season. The CO2 emission flux (FCO2) obtained from floating chamber method, ranging from 8.44 ± 6.94 mmol m−2 d−1 in sunmmer to 3.62 ± 6.32 mmol m−2 d−1 in winter, with an average value of 6.03 mmol m−2 d−1. Generally, the river was a weak carbon source with respect to the atmosphere. However, the pCO2 and FCO2 were much lower than that for other large rivers around the globe, which were obviously restrained by the weak microbial activities due to the low primary productivity and carbonate buffer activities in the carbonate background. Carbon loss via atmosphere exchange in the YT River on the plateau accounted for 2.2% and 10.6% of the riverine dissolved carbon fluxes (67.77 × 109 mol a−1) according to the floating chamber and thin boundary layer methods, respectively. The YT River probably acts as a “pipeline” to transport weathered nutrients from the plateau to downstream areas. Our results demonstrated the characteristics of a “weak outgassing effect and a high transport flux of carbon” for the plateau river, which is different from rivers on plains. Considering the global relevance of Tibetan Plateau, further studies with enhanced spatiotemporal resolution are needed to better understand the important role of plateau rivers on carbon budgets and climate change over both regional and global cycles

    Spin Gap and Resonance at the Nesting Wavevector in Superconducting FeSe0.4Te0.6

    Neutron scattering is used to probe magnetic excitations in FeSe_{0.4}Te_{0.6} (T_c=14 K). Low energy spin fluctuations are found with a characteristic wave vector (0.5,0.5,L)(0.5,0.5,L) that corresponds to Fermi surface nesting and differs from Q_m=(\delta,0,0.5) for magnetic ordering in Fe_{1+y}Te. A spin resonance with \hbar\Omega_0=6.5 meV \approx 5.3 k_BT_c and \hbar\Gamma=1.25 meV develops in the superconducting state from a normal state continuum. We show that the resonance is consistent with a bound state associated with s+/- superconductivity and imperfect quasi-2D Fermi surface nesting.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, Submitted to Phys. Rev.
