Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides in human monocytic leukemia cells: from gene expression to network construction
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p><it>Ganoderma lucidum </it>has been widely used as a herbal medicine for promoting health and longevity in China and other Asian countries. Polysaccharide extracts from <it>Ganoderma lucidum </it>have been reported to exhibit immuno-modulating and anti-tumor activities. In previous studies, F3, the active component of the polysaccharide extract, was found to activate various cytokines such as IL-1, IL-6, IL-12, and TNF-<it>α</it>. This gave rise to our investigation on how F3 stimulates immuno-modulating or anti-tumor effects in human leukemia THP-1 cells.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Here, we integrated time-course DNA microarray analysis, quantitative PCR assays, and bioinformatics methods to study the F3-induced effects in THP-1 cells. Significantly disturbed pathways induced by F3 were identified with statistical analysis on microarray data. The apoptosis induction through the DR3 and DR4/5 death receptors was found to be one of the most significant pathways and play a key role in THP-1 cells after F3 treatment. Based on time-course gene expression measurements of the identified pathway, we reconstructed a plausible regulatory network of the involved genes using reverse-engineering computational approach.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Our results showed that F3 may induce death receptor ligands to initiate signaling via receptor oligomerization, recruitment of specialized adaptor proteins and activation of caspase cascades.</p
Indoor Depth Completion with Boundary Consistency and Self-Attention
Depth estimation features are helpful for 3D recognition. Commodity-grade
depth cameras are able to capture depth and color image in real-time. However,
glossy, transparent or distant surface cannot be scanned properly by the
sensor. As a result, enhancement and restoration from sensing depth is an
important task. Depth completion aims at filling the holes that sensors fail to
detect, which is still a complex task for machine to learn. Traditional
hand-tuned methods have reached their limits, while neural network based
methods tend to copy and interpolate the output from surrounding depth values.
This leads to blurred boundaries, and structures of the depth map are lost.
Consequently, our main work is to design an end-to-end network improving
completion depth maps while maintaining edge clarity. We utilize self-attention
mechanism, previously used in image inpainting fields, to extract more useful
information in each layer of convolution so that the complete depth map is
enhanced. In addition, we propose boundary consistency concept to enhance the
depth map quality and structure. Experimental results validate the
effectiveness of our self-attention and boundary consistency schema, which
outperforms previous state-of-the-art depth completion work on Matterport3D
dataset. Our code is publicly available at

Construction Worker Fatigue Prediction Model Based on System Dynamic
Construction accident can be caused by internal and external factors such as worker fatigue and unsafe project environment. Tight schedule of construction project forcing construction worker to work overtime in long period. This situation leads to worker fatigue. This paper proposes a model to predict construction worker fatigue based on system dynamic (SD). System dynamic is used to represent correlation among internal and external factors and to simulate level of worker fatigue. To validate the model, 93 construction workers whom worked in a high rise building construction projects, were used as case study. The result shows that excessive workload, working elevation and age, are the main factors lead to construction worker fatigue. Simulation result also shows that these factors can increase worker fatigue level to 21.2% times compared to normal condition. Beside predicting worker fatigue level this model can also be used as early warning system to prevent construction worker acciden
Success factors for Taiwanese contractors collaborating with local Chinese contractors in construction projects
Regional trade cooperation has become an important component of construction industry due to the Free Trade Agreement. This segment of the market presents many challenges for construction firms. Establishing suitable international partnering relations is an effective strategy for adapting to the additional unpredictability of international markets. This research integrates the Balanced Scorecard system with Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process for comprehensive and quantitative evaluation of the relevant bilateral cooperation. Commercial cooperation across the Taiwan Strait is selected as a case study for determining the evaluating methodology. After examining data from Chinese firms, 12 factors for partner selection are identified. The factors are compared with practical conditions of worldwide and local markets to establish their viability. The methodology provides a framework for evaluating potential partners when attempting to enter foreign markets. Additionally, it identifies critical factors for developing optimal market entrance strategies, contracts, and risk management; results can also be golcally (globally and locally) tailored to promote the efficiency of international cooperation
