    The relation between of insulin like growth factor II and endometrial carcinoma

    Background: Endometrial cancer is the most common gynecologic malignancy in the United States and the fourth most common cancer in women. The need of a soft marker that can be used with CA-125 tumor marker for early detection of endometrial cancer and to predict late stages and advanced histopathological grades and to specify the cases who will be managed by complete surgical staging including para aortic and pelvic lymphadenectomy is of great importance. The aim of the study was to evaluate the role of insulin like growth factor 2 in endometrial carcinoma and to correlate it with different histopathological grades of the disease.Methods: This study was applied on sixty patients with abnormal uterine bleeding and were divided into two groups, Group A included 30 cases of endometrial carcinoma, while Group B included 30 cases complaining of abnormal vaginal bleeding due to other causes as a control group. Serum samples were taken from all patients and estimation of IGF-2 serum levels using ElISA technique was done. Comparison of IGF-2 serum level between both groups and correlation of its levels with different histopathological grades of endometrial cancer group were done.Results: As regard comparison between both groups and ILGF2 serum level, study results demonstrated that ILGF2 levels ranged between 600.0-1440.0 ng/ml and 40.0-560.0 ng/ml with the mean of 781.33 ng/ml±196.45 and 336.0 ng/ml±212.86 for cases Group A and control Group B respectively. There was a statistically significant difference between the two studied groups regarding ILGF2 serum level (p<0.001). As regards correlation between histopathological grades and ILGF-2 serum level in cases Group A, the study revealed a strong positive correlation.Conclusions: ILGF-2 can be used as a serum marker for endometroid adenocarcinoma of the body of the uterus and to predict its higher histopathological grades

    Prevalence And Antibiotic Resistance Pattern Of Linezolid And Vancomycin Resistant Gram-Positve Cocci Isolated From Surgical Site Infections

    The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and antimicrobial resistance profiles of Gram-positive cocci isolated from surgical site infections. Out of 320 bacterial isolates, 268 (83.75%) were identified as Staphylococcus spp. and 52 (16.25%) were identified as Enterococcus spp. Among staphylococci, 71.64% were coagulase-positive and 28.36% were coagulase-negative. The antimicrobial resistance of all isolates was tested with a disc diffusion method. The majority (69%) of coagulase-positive staphylococci were methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) while 31% were methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA). All staphylococci were found to be susceptible to vancomycin and only two isolates were found to be resistant to linezolid. On the other hand, high level (28%) of resistance to vancomycin was observed in enterococci and no enterococcal isolates exhibited resistance towards linezolid. Results revealed that all investigated isolates were resistant to ampicillin and tetracycline. High prevalence of erythromycin and ciprofloxacin resistance was observed in 91 and 77% of isolates, respectively, while only 18 and 28% of the isolates were resistant to amikacin and clindamycin, respectively

    Prevalence of Sexual Long COVID (SLC) in Egypt: A Single Institute Study

    Objectives: we conducted a cross section study to assess the prevalence and severity of ED among COVID-19 survivors presenting to andrology outpatients’ clinics, Kasr AlAiny hospital, faculty of medicine, Cairo university. Materials and Methods: a total of 1000 COVID-19 survivors were screened for ED using validated Arabic version of the international index of erectile function (ArIIEF-5) during the period between Jan 2022 till Jan 2023. All patients were previously diagnosed with positive PCR for COVID-19 infection at least 3 months before the time of data collection.&nbsp;&nbsp; Result: we found that the prevalence of ED among COVID-19 survivors were 11.4%, mild ED in 7%, moderate in 3.2% and severe ED in 1.2%, severity of ED was not associated with demographic, clinical, laboratory and penile duplex characteristics. Conclusion: severity of ED among COVID-19 survivors showed no statistically significant association with demographics, depression, anxiety, penile duplex findings and hormonal disturbances

    ¹H-NMR metabolic profiling, antioxidant activity, and docking study of common medicinal plant-derived honey

    The purpose of this investigation was to determine &sup1;H-NMR profiling and antioxidant activity of the most common types of honey, namely, citrus honey (HC1) (Morcott tangerine L. and Jaffa orange L.), marjoram honey (HM1) (Origanum majorana L.), and clover honey (HT1) (Trifolium alexandrinum L.), compared to their secondary metabolites (HC2, HM2, HT2, respectively). By using a &sup1;H-NMR-based metabolomic technique, PCA, and PLS-DA multivariate analysis, we found that HC2, HM2, HC1, and HM1 were clustered together. However, HT1 and HT2 were quite far from these and each other. This indicated that HC1, HM1, HC2, and HM2 have similar chemical compositions, while HT1 and HT2 were unique in their chemical profiles. Antioxidation potentials were determined colorimetrically for scavenging activities against DPPH, ABTS, ORAC, 5-LOX, and metal chelating activity in all honey extract samples and their secondary metabolites. Our results revealed that HC2 and HM2 possessed more antioxidant activities than HT2 in vitro. HC2 demonstrated the highest antioxidant effect in all assays, followed by HM2 (DPPH assay: IC50 2.91, 10.7 &mu;g/mL; ABTS assay: 431.2, 210.24 at 50 ug/mL Trolox equivalent; ORAC assay: 259.5, 234.8 at 50 ug/mL Trolox equivalent; 5-LOX screening assay/IC50: 2.293, 6.136 ug/mL; and metal chelating activity at 50 ug/mL: 73.34526%, 63.75881% inhibition). We suggest that the presence of some secondary metabolites in HC and HM, such as hesperetin, linalool, and caffeic acid, increased the antioxidant activity in citrus and marjoram compared to clover honey

    The Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL) method is a well-established branch of electromagnetic Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) extensively used to assess the physical condition of ferromagnetic structures. The main research objective of this research work presented in this thesis is the detection and characterization of the MFL distribution caused by rectangular surface and far-surface hairline cracks. It looks at the use of the direct current and pulsed current techniques to investigate the presence of hairline cracks in ferromagnetic steel pipelines, by comparing the Finite Element Modelling (FEM) technique with practical experiments. First, the expected response of an MFL probe scanned across the area of a hairline crack was predicted using the 3D FEM numerical simulation technique.     Chemical Profiling and Biological Screening of Some River Nile Derived-Microorganisms

    AimsChemical and biological studies of the River Nile derived-microorganisms are limited. Hence, this work was carried out to screen the River Nile habitat. Identification of the isolated organisms, chemical profiling of their ethyl acetate extracts as well as screening of their antimicrobial, antileishmanial, antitrypanosomal, and antimalarial activities were investigated.MethodsIdentification of the microbial isolates were carried out using bacterial 16S rRNA and fungal 18S rRNA gene sequencing. Chemical profiling of the EtOAc extracts using LC-HRESIMS spectroscopy was carried out. The in vitro antimicrobial screening using the modified version of the CLSI method, antileishmanial and antitrypanosomal activities were screened using Leishmania donovani promastigote assay, L. donovani axenic amastigote assay, Trypanosoma brucei trypamastigotes assay and THP1 toxicity assay. The in vitro antimalarial activities against D6 (chloroquine sensitive) and W2 (chloroquine-resistant) strains of Plasmodium falciparum were evaluated.ResultsSeven isolated microorganisms were identified as Streptomyces indiaensis, Bacillus safensis, B. anthracis, Bacillus sp., and Aspergillus awamori. Chemical investigation of different extracts showed several bioactive compounds, identified as; nigragillin, 5-caboxybenzofuran and dyramide B from A. awamori and actinopolysporin B from S. indiaensis. On the other hand many nitrogenous compounds with high molecular weights showed no hits that may correspond to new long chain and/or cyclic peptides. The EtOAc extract of B. safensis fermentation broth showed the highest activity against P. falciparum D6 and P. falciparum W2 (IC50 = 25.94 and 27.28 μg/mL, respectively), while two isolates S. indiaensis and Bacillus sp. RN-011 extracts showed the highest antitrypanosomal activity (IC50 = 0.8 and 0.96 μg/mL).ConclusionThe River Nile could be a new source for production of promising bioactive leading compound where antimicrobial and antiparasitic activities may be correlated
