    Get PDF
The aim was to investigate the relationship between and among cognitive emotion regulation, test anxiety and academic adjustment and the possibility of cognitive emotion regulation (CER) to mediate the relationship between academic adjustment (TA) and academic adjustment (AA). We hypothesized that the association between test anxiety and AA is mediated by cognitive emotion regulation. Convenient sampling method was employed to recruit the participants. The sample of the study consisted of 180 students (100% males) representing students from college of education, Jazan University, KSA, aged 19-21 years, with an average of 20.2 years, with a standard deviation of 5.45. For the purpose of this study, quantitative survey research was employed, with cognitive emotion regulation as independent variable, and TA and TA as dependent variables. Findings revealed that adaptive cognitive emotion regulation correlates negatively with TA, and also negatively with AA. On the other hand, Maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation was found to be positively correlated with AA. While AA found to be negatively correlated with TA. The coefficients related to the Adaptive CER regression paths to TA and AA, Maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation regression paths to TA and AA are significant at 0.01 level regardless of their direction

Background: Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is a severe health problem that affects over two billion people worldwide. Data has shown that IDA is intrinsically related to dental caries. However, few studies have been performed on their relationship. Our study aimed to assess the correlation between a caries index score and hemoglobin (Hb) level in primary school students in the age group 6-12 years. Methods: A cross-sectional study was done. A sample of forty patients; suffering from IDA; was selected from three pediatric outpatient clinics by simple random technique and interviewed with a final questionnaire. Results: Our findings concluded that there was a significant moderate negative correlation between caries index score and Hb level (r=-0.475, p=0.0019). There was a statistically significant Hb level mean difference between the high and low caries index groups. There was also a significant moderate negative correlation between caries index score and age, and height. Parameters predicting caries index score were identified as Hb level and frequency of sugar intake. Conclusions: In conclusion, patients of three pediatric outpatient clinics have a significant moderate negative correlation between caries index score and Hb level and need implementation of proper dental screening and preventive programs.

Game-Based Experiential Learning in Online Management Information Systems Classes Using Intelā€™s IT Manager 3

For several years, we used Intelā€™s flash-based game ā€œIT Manager 3: Unseen Forcesā€ as an experiential learning tool, where students had to act as a manager making real-time prioritization decisions about repairing computer problems, training and upgrading systems with better technologies as well as managing increasing numbers of technical staff as the game progresses. We found that this experience was useful for students to reflect upon and apply several IT management theories learned in their online Management Information Systems class. Specific reflective questions fostered thinking about the role of the CIO, principles of project management, budgeting IT initiatives, as well as the impact of IT projects on the balanced scorecard. In this paper we first outline experiential learning methods and describe the online course and the moduleā€™s objectives where we used the game based simulation of the Information Technology manager role. We examine elements of what makes a good game and relate these with key features of the IT Manager 3 Game, and describe how we used them to reinforce theoretical concepts. We then go into detail on what challenges and obstacles were faced when implementing the game in the course and highlight how these were overcome. Finally our paper concludes with a discussion of how online games can be effective in online management information systems courses

How Social Media Can Enhance Access to Information through Transactive Memory Development

    Get PDF
A key challenge for managing talent in organizations is locating and coordinating expertise. In this study, we propose that employees who use social media can help an organization locate knowledge workers who are vital to organizational growth and competitiveness. We draws on transactive memory (TM) theory to examine the relationship between social media use and knowledge workersā€™ access to information as mediated by the formation of an organization-wide transactive memory. We conducted the research using a mixed-methods approach that combined insights from a qualitative investigation with a confirmatory large-scale survey in a multinational information technology firm. We empirically show that social media use had a positive but indirect relationship with knowledge workersā€™ access to information via the mediation of the three dimensions of TM. We discuss our findingsā€™ implications for theory and practice, including human resource management, and directions for future research

Identifying Social Computing Dimensions: A Multidimensional Scaling Study

    Get PDF
Despite an increasing popularity, the impact and benefits of corporate social computing remain unclear. This paper aims at rigorously studying social computing tools as a new class of technology and provides a holistic definition and characterization. After a comprehensive literature review, we empirically explored the defining attributes and underlying dimensions of social computing as a whole using the multidimensional scaling (MDS) methodology. The study found that 13 representative exemplar tools differ over three dimensions: (i) their ability to support social interactions, social relations, and communities, (ii) their hedonic versus utilitarian focus, and (iii) their ability to support convergence versus conveyance of generated content. A Property Fitting (ProFit) study confirmed the interpretation of the dimensions. This provided a better understanding of this technology and allowed us to better theorize about the expected benefits and impacts of social computing on organizations, to offer guidelines for adoption and provide suggestions for future research

Continuous Professional Development (CPD) refers to the educational pursuits that professionals make after completing their basic education and continues throughout their professional working lives in order to improve their knowledge, proficiency, and personal skills. CPD programs are crucial for enhancing the abilities of healthcare professionals and allowing them to provide patients with better care. However, few studies have discussed on this issue in Egypt. We conducted the current study to assess the knowledge and attitude of health care workers regarding CPD programs in a tertiary care hospital. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in Sporting Tertiary Care Hospital, Alexandria after the acceptance from Ethical Committee. The data were collected by interviewing questionnaire from a purposive sample of thirty-two healthcare workers who are representative of stakeholder groups to assess the knowledge and attitude regarding continuous professional programs. The questionnaire consists of three divisions, the first one is concerned with personal data, second one covers the knowledge assessment, and the last one embraces the attitude evaluation section. The study lasted 3 months. Data were analyzed by using a suitable statistical software. We found that majority of the participants had good knowledge level (96.9%) and strongly positive attitude (75%) regarding CPD programs. In conclusion, the study findings demonstrated a significant level of knowledge and attitude of the participants regarding continuous professional programs which opens the way for further research that assess the implementation and standardization of CPD programs in the future
