The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the mental health and spiritual health among the staff of Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences in 2016.Method: In this cross-sectional study, 267 employees of Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences were surveyed by simple random sampling. The data collection tools included Goldenberg’s General Health Questionnaire and Paloutzian and Ellison’s Spiritual Well-Being Questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using Pearson product moment correlation. In this research, all ethical issues were observed. In addition, the authors did not report any conflict of interests. Results: According to the results of the study, the mean mental health score was 2.98, while the mean score of spiritual health was 3.62. In addition, there was a significant correlation between the mental and spiritual health (r=0.324). Considering the subscales of mental health, spiritual health registered the highest and lowest correlations with depression and physical symptoms respectively. Conclusion: Improving the mental health of the effective and constructive population of the society is necessary for the dynamism, prosperity and promotion of the society. Spiritual health affects the university staff's mental health. Therefore, planning to promote it is an important issue that should be considered by the relevant authorities and policy makers. For downloading the full-text of this article please click here. Please cite this article as: Ziapour A, GhaderiA, VafapoorH, Yazdani V, Saeidi Sh, Zangeneh AR.

An Evaluation of The Diagnostic Value of Sputum Smears Microscopy and Pcr Relative to Sputum Culture in The Diagnosis of Pulmonary Tuberculosis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis in Iran
Background: Tuberculosis is one of the oldest known diseases in humans, and early detection of tuberculosis is one of the main measures to decrease the spread of tuberculosis. In many parts of the world, including Iran, the diagnosis of tuberculosis is based on the detection of acid-fast bacillus in sputum smear microscopy and PCR. this study aimed to synthesize evidence on the diagnostic accuracy of sputum smear and PCR compared to sputum culture for the diagnosis of PT in Iranian patients. Methods: This systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted based on PRISMA guideline for systematic review and meta-analysis. Eligible studies were cross-sectional original diagnostic studies published in English and Persian in Iran which examined the sensitivity or specificity(study outcome) of sputum smear microscopy or PCR( as the test) relative to sputum culture (as the gold standard/comparator) among Iranian patients suspected of having tuberculosis( study population). Studies whose data were not complete or extractable were excluded. Results: A total of 3518 subjects were evaluated from 15 eligible studies. The pooled sensitivity of sputum smear and PCR was 75.12 (95% CI: 66.68-83.56) and 88.02 (95% CI: 82.87-93.27), respectively. The specificity for sputum smear and PCR was 93.94 (95% CI: 91.26-96.63) and 91.82 (95% CI: 87.29-96.35) respectively. The sensitivity of both sputum smears was higher in studies published after 2010, and had higher quality. The specificity of sputum smear was a bit lower in studies published after2010 but higher in studies with higher quality. The specificity of PCR was higher in studies published after 2010 but higher in studies with higher quality. Conclusion:The increased sensitivity of sputum smear and PCR during recent years suggests the improvement of preparation and laboratory methods in recent years. However, the imperfect sensitivity of these tests highlights the need for a more accurate diagnostic method for the detection of pulmonary tuberculosis in Iran
The potential influence of the ligament of Wieger on the crystalline lens shape
Abstract This research uses mathematical modelling to evaluate the influence of the ligament of Wieger on the crystalline lens shape at rest, and during accommodation. An axisymmetric model of the anterior segment, including the ligament of Wieger, was created using the finite element method. Different conditions including variations of stiffness and positions of the ligament, with and without the ligament, were tested to see how they affected lens curvature and optical power. Adding the ligament of Wieger to the simulation had a noticeable impact on the optical power of the lens, particularly on the posterior surface power and total power. Ligament stiffness and width significant influenced the accommodative range of the eye by − 0.95D and − 2.39D for ligaments with the same and 3× the stiffness of the capsular bag, respectively. Ligament width and inner diameter had negligible effects on lens thickness but did have significant effects on posterior surface power and accommodation. In this simulation, we found that the ligament of Wieger can significantly affect the lens shape, both at rest and during accommodation, and may need to be considered in lens models
