Interplay between Fermi surface topology and ordering in URuSi revealed through abrupt Hall coefficient changes in strong magnetic fields
Temperature- and field-dependent measurements of the Hall effect of pure and
4 % Rh-doped URuSi reveal low density (0.03 hole/U) high mobility
carriers to be unique to the `hidden order' phase and consistent with an
itinerant density-wave order parameter. The Fermi surface undergoes a series of
abrupt changes as the magnetic field is increased. When combined with existing
de Haas-van Alphen data, the Hall data expose a strong interplay between the
stability of the `hidden order,' the degree of polarization of the Fermi liquid

Staggered Currents in the Vortex Core
We study the electronic structure of the vortex core in the cuprates using
the U(1) slave-boson mean-field wavefunctions and their Gutzwiller projection.
We conclude that there exists local orbital antiferromagnetic order in the core
near optimal doping. We compare the results with that of BCS theory and analyze
the spatial dependence of the local tunneling density of states.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Instanton solutions mediating tunneling between the degenerate vacua in curved space
We investigate the instanton solution between the degenerate vacua in curved
space. We show that there exist -symmetric solutions not only in de
Sitter but also in both flat and anti-de Sitter space. The geometry of the new
type of solutions is finite and preserves the symmetry. The nontrivial
solution corresponding to the tunneling is possible only if gravity is taken
into account. The numerical solutions as well as the analytic computations
using the thin-wall approximation are presented. We expect that these solutions

Microscopic Theory of Rashba Interaction in Magnetic Metal
Theory of Rashba spin-orbit coupling in magnetic metals is worked out from
microscopic Hamiltonian describing d-orbitals. When structural inversion
symmetry is broken, electron hopping between -orbitals generates chiral
ordering of orbital angular momentum, which combines with atomic spin-orbit
coupling to result in the Rashba interaction. Rashba parameter characterizing
the interaction is band-specific, even reversing its sign from band to band.
Large enhancement of the Rashba parameter found in recent experiments is
attributed to the orbital mixing of 3d magnetic atoms with non-magnetic heavy
elements as we demonstrate by first-principles and tight-binding calculations.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figure
Atlas Toolkit: Fast registration of 3D morphological datasets in the absence of landmarks
Image registration is a gateway technology for Developmental Systems Biology, enabling computational analysis of related datasets within a shared coordinate system. Many registration tools rely on landmarks to ensure that datasets are correctly aligned; yet suitable landmarks are not present in many datasets. Atlas Toolkit is a Fiji/ImageJ plugin collection offering elastic group-wise registration of 3D morphological datasets, guided by segmentation of the interesting morphology. We demonstrate the method by combinatorial mapping of cell signalling events in the developing eyes of chick embryos, and use the integrated datasets to predictively enumerate Gene Regulatory Network states
The false vacuum bubble nucleation due to a nonminimally coupled scalar field
We study the possibility of forming the false vacuum bubble nucleated within
the true vacuum background via the true-to-false vacuum phase transition in
curved spacetime. We consider a semiclassical Euclidean bubble in the Einstein
theory of gravity with a nonminimally coupled scalar field. In this paper we
present the numerical computations as well as the approximate analytical

A BGG-type resolution for tensor modules over general linear superalgebra
We construct a Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand type resolution in terms of direct
sums of Kac modules for the finite-dimensional irreducible tensor
representations of the general linear superalgebra. As a consequence it follows
that the unique maximal submodule of a corresponding reducible Kac module is

Factors That Promote Perceived Usefulness of and Clinical Outcomes From Sign-Outs at the National University Hospital
IMPORTANCE OF THE STUDY. Currently, there is a paucity of evidence in the literature to show that handoff strategies improve the quality of handoff outcomes. Studies that show the usefulness and outcomes obtained from sign-outs may motivate junior clinicians, who have limited time to perform their clinical responsibilities, to support sign-out improvement efforts.
OBJECTIVE. To test a research model that embeds the Technology Acceptance Model and the Theory of Planned Behavior to explore factors that enhance the perceived (a) usefulness of and (b) clinical outcomes from sign-outs among junior medical officers.
DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS.
A retrospective study was conducted in the Division of General Medicine in November 2012. 17 residents volunteered to participate in a theoretically validated survey.
MEASURES AND ANALYSES. The predictor variables were Perceived Ease of Sign-outs, Perceived Benefits from Sign-outs, Attitudes towards Sign-outs, Social Norms to Sign-out, and Perceived Behavior Control over Sign-outs. Partial Least Squares with bootstrapping to 1000 cases was utilized to analyze the data from a small sample.
RESULTS.
The results showed that perceived benefits from sign-outs enhanced the perceived usefulness of sign-outs. Perceived ease of sign-outs enhanced attitudes towards sign-outs, which was significantly related to perceptions of positive clinical outcomes from sign-outs. Neither the social pressure to sign-out nor the provision of conditions to facilitate sign-outs had any significant relationships to perceived usefulness of or clinical outcomes derived from sign-outs.
CONCLUSION AND RELEVANCE. A two-prong approach involving minimal effort and hard evidence from clinical outcomes may be required to motivate adoption of sign-outs by busy residents
Competition Between Auctions
Even though auctions are capturing an increasing share of commerce, they are typically treated in the theoretical economics literature as isolated. That is, an auction is typically treated as a single seller facing multiple buyers or as a single buyer facing multiple sellers. In this paper, we review the state of the art of competition between auctions. We consider three different types of competition: competition between auctions, competition between formats, and competition between auctioneers vying for auction traffic.
