    Software Piracy and Ethical Decision Making Behavior of Chinese Consumers

    China has one of the highest software piracy rate in the world. It is important to understand consumers' ethical response to software piracy in the Chinese markets and design effective preventive strategies. This paper proposes a conceptual framework for an understanding of consumer ethical decision making. In the proposed framework, the transformation from legal problem recognition to ethical problem recognition is added to the traditional research framework and viewed as the first and most important step in consumer ethical decision making in regards to software piracy. The effects of two culture-related constructs— assumption of responsibility and attitude towards copyright laws on consumer ethical decision making— are examined and two propositions are made. The influence of Chinese culture and history on consumer ethical decision making is discussed. This paper contributes to our understanding of consumer ethical decision making in software piracy and provides new and constructive interpretations of the cultural influence

    Superhydrophobic nanofibre membranes : effects of particulate coating on hydrophobicity and surface properties

    Superhydrophobic electrospun polyacrylonitrile nanofibre membranes have been prepared by surface coating of silica nanoparticles and fluorinated alkyl silane. The coated membranes were characterised by scanning electron microscopy, water contact angle, thermogravimetry analysis, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy. It was shown that the loading of nanoparticle on the nanofibre membrane was controlled by the particle concentration in the coating solution, which played a critical role in the formation of superhydrophobic surface. Increased particle loading led to higher surface roughness and WCA. The nanoparticle coating had little influence on the porosity of the nanofibre membranes. However, overloading of the particles would affect the specific surface area of the nanofibre membrane

    Using chitosan as a thickener for electrospinning dilute PVA solutions to improve fibre uniformity

    Chitosan was added to PVA aqueous solutions as a thickener to improve the electrospinning process. The presence of a small amount of chitosan considerably improved the uniformity of as-spun nanofibres. This improvement is attributed to its significant effect on the solution viscosity and conductivity, with only a slight impact on the surface tension. The concentration of the PVA required to produce bead-free and uniform nanofibres was reduced with the increase in chitosan concentration. The chitosan thickener suppressed the jet break-up and facilitated the jet stretching so that fine and uniform fibres could be electrospun even from a dilute PVA solution.<br /

    A robust, electrically conductive, superamphiphobic fabric was prepared by vapour-phase polymerisation of 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) on fabric in the presence of fluorinated decyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (FD-POSS) and a fluorinated alkyl silane (FAS). The coated fabric had contact angles of 169&deg; and 156&deg; respectively to water and hexadecane, and a surface resistance in the range of 0.8&ndash;1.2 k&Omega; o⁻&sup1; . The incorporation of FD-POSS and FAS into the PEDOT layer showed a very small influence on the conductivity but improved the washing and abrasion stability considerably. The coated fabric can withstand at least 500 cycles of standard laundry and 10000 cycles of abrasion without apparently changing the superamphiphobicity, while the conductivity only had a small reduction after the washing and abrasion. More interestingly, the coating had a self-healing ability to auto-repair from chemical damages to restore the liquid repellency

    A Low Collision and High Throughput Data Collection Mechanism for Large-Scale Super Dense Wireless Sensor Networks

    Super dense wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have become popular with the development of Internet of Things (IoT), Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications and Vehicular-to-Vehicular (V2V) networks. While highly-dense wireless networks provide efficient and sustainable solutions to collect precise environmental information, a new channel access scheme is needed to solve the channel collision problem caused by the large number of competing nodes accessing the channel simultaneously. In this paper, we propose a space-time random access method based on a directional data transmission strategy, by which collisions in the wireless channel are significantly decreased and channel utility efficiency is greatly enhanced. Simulation results show that our proposed method can decrease the packet loss rate to less than 2 % in large scale WSNs and in comparison with other channel access schemes for WSNs, the average network throughput can be doubled
