    The dynamically induced Fermi arcs and Fermi pockets in two dimensions: a model for underdoped cuprates

    We investigate the effects of the dynamic bosonic fluctuations on the Fermi surface reconstruction in two dimensions as a model for the underdoped cuprates. At energies larger than the boson energy ฯ‰b\omega_b, the dynamic nature of the fluctuations is not important and the quasi-particle dispersion exhibits the shadow feature like that induced by a static long range order. At lower energies, however, the shadow feature is pushed away by the finite ฯ‰b\omega_b. The detailed low energy features are determined by the bare dispersion and the coupling of quasi-particles to the dynamic fluctuations. We present how these factors reconstruct the Fermi surface to produce the Fermi arcs or the Fermi pockets, or their coexistence. Our principal result is that the dynamic nature of the fluctuations, without invoking a yet-to-be-established translational symmetry breaking hidden order, can produce the Fermi pocket centered away from the (ฯ€/2,ฯ€/2)(\pi/2,\pi/2) towards the zone center which may coexist with the Fermi arcs.     SC VALL-E: Style-Controllable Zero-Shot Text to Speech Synthesizer

    Expressive speech synthesis models are trained by adding corpora with diverse speakers, various emotions, and different speaking styles to the dataset, in order to control various characteristics of speech and generate the desired voice. In this paper, we propose a style control (SC) VALL-E model based on the neural codec language model (called VALL-E), which follows the structure of the generative pretrained transformer 3 (GPT-3). The proposed SC VALL-E takes input from text sentences and prompt audio and is designed to generate controllable speech by not simply mimicking the characteristics of the prompt audio but by controlling the attributes to produce diverse voices. We identify tokens in the style embedding matrix of the newly designed style network that represent attributes such as emotion, speaking rate, pitch, and voice intensity, and design a model that can control these attributes. To evaluate the performance of SC VALL-E, we conduct comparative experiments with three representative expressive speech synthesis models: global style token (GST) Tacotron2, variational autoencoder (VAE) Tacotron2, and original VALL-E. We measure word error rate (WER), F0 voiced error (FVE), and F0 gross pitch error (F0GPE) as evaluation metrics to assess the accuracy of generated sentences. For comparing the quality of synthesized speech, we measure comparative mean option score (CMOS) and similarity mean option score (SMOS). To evaluate the style control ability of the generated speech, we observe the changes in F0 and mel-spectrogram by modifying the trained tokens. When using prompt audio that is not present in the training data, SC VALL-E generates a variety of expressive sounds and demonstrates competitive performance compared to the existing models.     DiffV2S: Diffusion-based Video-to-Speech Synthesis with Vision-guided Speaker Embedding

    Recent research has demonstrated impressive results in video-to-speech synthesis which involves reconstructing speech solely from visual input. However, previous works have struggled to accurately synthesize speech due to a lack of sufficient guidance for the model to infer the correct content with the appropriate sound. To resolve the issue, they have adopted an extra speaker embedding as a speaking style guidance from a reference auditory information. Nevertheless, it is not always possible to obtain the audio information from the corresponding video input, especially during the inference time. In this paper, we present a novel vision-guided speaker embedding extractor using a self-supervised pre-trained model and prompt tuning technique. In doing so, the rich speaker embedding information can be produced solely from input visual information, and the extra audio information is not necessary during the inference time. Using the extracted vision-guided speaker embedding representations, we further develop a diffusion-based video-to-speech synthesis model, so called DiffV2S, conditioned on those speaker embeddings and the visual representation extracted from the input video. The proposed DiffV2S not only maintains phoneme details contained in the input video frames, but also creates a highly intelligible mel-spectrogram in which the speaker identities of the multiple speakers are all preserved.     Graphene-enhanced raman spectroscopy reveals the controlled photoreduction of nitroaromatic compound on oxidized graphene surface

    Although graphene-enhanced Raman spectroscopy has been investigated for several years, there have been no studies that have applied it to real-time observations of chemical catalytic reactions. Here, we report that UV/ozone-treated oxidized graphene was used to both control and monitor the photoreduction of an adsorbed nitroaromatic dye compound. Graphene-enhanced Raman spectroscopy studies show that more oxidized graphene surface leads to faster photoreduction. This is due to the lowering of the Fermi level in the oxidized graphene, which is in agreement with the highest occupied molecular orbital level of the adsorbed dye molecule, leading to a rapid electron transfer from graphene to the dye. Our findings will be useful in understanding and exploiting the photocatalytic properties of oxidized graphene on adsorbed molecular species.

    THE INFLUENCE OF SOCIAL PRESENCE ON EVALUATING PERSONALIZED RECOMMENDER SYSTEMS

    Providing recommendations is acknowledged as an important feature of a business-to-consumer online storefront. Although many studies have been conducted the algorithms and operational procedures relating to personalized recommender systems, empirical evidence demonstrating relationships between social presence and two important outcomes of evaluating recommender systems, reuse intention and trust, remains lacking. To test the existence of a causal link between social presence and reuse intention, and the mediating role of trust between these two variables, this study conducted experiments varying the levels of social presence while providing personalized recommendations to users based on their explicit preferences. This study also compared these effects in two different product contexts: hedonic and utilitarian products. Interactions of social presence and customer reviews were also investigated in these experiments. The results show that higher social presence increases both reuse intention and trust in recommender systems. In addition, the influence of social presence on reuse intention in the context of recommending utilitarian products is less than that in the context of recommending hedonic products

    Comparison of Adsorptive Removal of Total Nitrogen (T-N) and Total Phosphorous (T-P) in Aqueous Solution using Granular Activated Charcoal (GAC)

    The present study is to explore the possibility of utilizing granular activated charcoal (GAC) for the removal of total phosphorous (T-P) and total nitrogen (T-N) in aqueous solution. Batch adsorption studies were carried out to determine the influences of various factors like initial concentration, contact time and temperature. The adsorption data showed that GAC has a similar adsorption capacity for both T-N and T-P. The adsorption degree of T-N and T-P on GAC was highly concentration dependent. It was found that the adsorption capacity of GAC is quite favorable at a low concentration. At concentrations of 1.0 mg L-1 of T-P and 2.0 mg L-1 of T-N, approximately 97 % of adsorption was achieved by GAC. The equilibrium data were fitted well to the Langmuir isotherm model. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model appeared to be the better-fitting model because it has higher R2 compared with the pseudo-first-order and intra-particle kinetic model. The theoretical adsorption equilibrium qe,cal from pseudo-second-order kinetic model were relatively similar to the experimental adsorption equilibrium qe,exp. To evaluate the effect of thermodynamic parameters at different temperatures, the change in free energy รŽโ€G, the enthalpy รŽโ€H and the entropy รŽโ€S were estimated. Except for adsorption of T-P at 278 K, the รŽโ€G values obtained were all negative at the investigated temperatures. It indicates that the present adsorption system occurs spontaneously. The adsorption process of T-N by GAC was exothermic in nature, whereas T-P showed endothermic behavior. In addition, the positive values of รŽโ€S imply that there was the increase in the randomness of adsorption of T-N and T-P at GAC-solution interface.ร‚ย ร‚

    Analysis of Content Legibility for Smartphones of Websites of the Korean Urological Association and Other Urological Societies in Korea

    Purpose: We performed an analysis of the smartphone legibility of the websites of the Korean Urological Association (KUA) and other urological societies. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted on the websites of the KUA and nine other urological societies. Each website was accessed via iPhone Safari and Android Chrome, respectively, to evaluate the establishment and readability of the mobile web pages. The provision of Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds by the websites and whether the websites had Twitter and Facebook accounts were evaluated. In addition, a validation test on the web standards was performed by using the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C???) Markup Validation Service, and subsequently the numbers of errors and warnings that occurred were analyzed. Results: When accessed via Safari, two websites were legible, four were somewhat legible, and four were somewhat illegible. When accessed via Chrome, two websites were legible, six were somewhat legible, and two were somewhat illegible. One website provided an RSS feed and two websites managed members via separate Twitter accounts. No website supported mobile web pages. The result of the W3C??? Markup Validation test on 10 websites showed a mean error rate of 221.6 (range, 13-1,477) and a mean warning rate of 127.13 (range, 0-655). Conclusions: The smartphone legibility level of the websites of urological societies was relatively low. Improved smartphone legibility and web standard compliance of the websites of urological societies are required to keep up with the popularity of smartphones

    Social distancing policy and mental health during COVID-19 pandemic: an 18-month longitudinal cohort study in South Korea

    BackgroundDespite the effectiveness of social distancing policies in preventing the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), their impact on mental health remains a concern. Longitudinal studies investigating the psychological effects of social distancing are limited.MethodsLongitudinal data on psychological variables were collected eight times between May 2020 and November 2021 through online surveys in South Korea.ResultsThe participants in the study reported a worsening of depressive and anxiety symptoms, suicide risk, and psychological distress with increasing levels of social distancing. Specifically, during the third wave, when social distancing levels peaked, the highest levels of depression, anxiety, and psychological distress were observed, and the second-lowest levels of vitality were reported. Furthermore, psychological risk factors, such as depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, and suicidal risk, were closely associated with vitality levels in daily life.DiscussionsDuring the pandemic, although social distancing helped prevent the spread of COVID-19, it also led to increased depression, anxiety, suicide risk, psychological distress, and decreased vitality. Engagement at a personal level in fundamental daily activities is important to cope with psychological distress. Our results indicate that commitment to fundamental daily activities and following routines is an important protective factor against psychological distress, notwithstanding COVID-19
