    The Difference of Teachers’ Beliefs Related to Students’ Practice of Confucian Analects: A Comparison among Three Chinese Fujian Ethnic Regions

    Confucian culture is an important shared cultural characteristic in Chinese societies. The transmissions under different historical effects lead to differences of perceiving students’ practice of the Confucian Analects in society. The behaviors and beliefs of teachers represent their beliefs in observing students’ moral practices. The present study examined students’ practice of Confucian Analects observed by Chinese teachers in Fujian region of China, Taiwan, and Malaysia. Based on praxis approach, the present study contracted eight major constituents of Analects for explorative analysis. Seven hundred sixty questionnaires are returned and validated for explorative and comparative analyses. The results indicated that the constituents were correlated, and the teachers in the Fujian region thought that their students had the highest practice of the Confucian Analects, than Taiwan and Malaysia. The implication of this study suggested that cultural difference affects the perception of Chinese teachers in students’ practice of Confucian Analects and can be deployed in educational settings to increase the life fulfillment of Confucian philosophy

    AbstractThis research focuses on topic of e-learning of Xiao-zhuan through digital Embodied games as a brand new way of creative learning method for Xiao-zhuan. TAM, Technology Acceptance Model, is the methodology in this research. Theory of perceived playfulness is also adopted to analyze the learning of Xiao-zhuan. Subjects in this research are 45 sophomores of the Department of Chinese Literature in National Taiwan Normal University. This research adopts questionnaire survey method, then refers to students’ paper scores on the test. The results of this research are as follows: Firstly, “Perceived Usefulness” has the significant influence on “Learning Effectiveness” and “Attitude toward Using the Embodied games”. Secondly, “Perceived Ease of Use” has the influence on “Perceived Playfulness”. Thirdly, “Perceived Playfulness” has the significant influence on “Attitude toward Using the Embodied games”

    The COVID-19 pandemic has affected university students’ learning and social interaction to a large level, causing different degrees of negative emotions and made them extremely sensitive to smartphone information. However, little is known about the link between personalities, perceived information overload (PIO) and smartphone immediate response syndrome (SIRS) during students' learning process in this specific emergency social context. Therefore, based on the person-environment fit model, this study investigated 482 university students from mainland China during the epidemic by a snowball sampling approach, and analyzed the relationship between their personalities, PIO and SIRS by structural equation modeling. Results indicated that individuals with extraversion and neuroticism formed SIRS from different psychological paths. PIO plays a partial mediating role between neuroticism and SIRS and a fully mediating role between extraversion and SIRS. These findings validate the association among individual personality, PIO and SIRS in the non-conventional environment and highlights the difference exist in cellphone-related psychological path between extraverted and neurotic students. Therefore, it is recommended that PIO should be controlled in a targeted manner for individuals with different personality and guide them using cellphones rationally during the epidemic.La pandemia causada por la COVID-19 ha afectado en gran medida al aprendizaje y a la interacciĂłn social de los estudiantes universitarios, provocando emociones negativas de diferentes grados y haciĂ©ndoles extremadamente sensibles a la informaciĂłn de los smartphones. Sin embargo, se sabe poco sobre la relaciĂłn entre la personalidad, la sobrecarga de informaciĂłn percibida (SIP) y el sĂ­ndrome de respuesta inmediata al smartphone (SIRS) durante el proceso de aprendizaje de los estudiantes en este contexto social de emergencia especĂ­fico. Por lo tanto, basĂĄndose en el modelo de ajuste persona-ambiente, este estudio investigĂł a 482 estudiantes universitarios de China continental durante la epidemia mediante un enfoque de muestreo de bola de nieve, y analizĂł la relaciĂłn entre su personalidad, SIP y SIRS mediante un modelo de ecuaciones estructurales. Los resultados indicaron que los individuos con extraversiĂłn y neuroticismo formaron el SIRS a partir de diferentes vĂ­as psicolĂłgicas. La SIP desempeña un papel mediador parcial entre el neuroticismo y el SIRS y un papel totalmente mediador entre la extraversiĂłn y el SIRS. Estos resultados validan la asociaciĂłn entre la personalidad individual, la SIP y el SIRS en el entorno no convencional y pone de manifiesto la diferencia que existe en la trayectoria psicolĂłgica relacionada con el telĂ©fono mĂłvil entre los estudiantes extrovertidos y los neurĂłticos.     How Does Hands-On Making Attitude Predict Epistemic Curiosity and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Career Interests? Evidence From an International Exhibition of Young Inventors

    Whether the hands-on experience of creating inventions can promote Students’ interest in pursuing a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) career has not been extensively studied. In a quantitative study, we drew on the attitude-behavior-outcome framework to explore the correlates between hands-on making attitude, epistemic curiosities, and career interest. This study targeted students who joined the selection competition for participating in the International Exhibition of Young Inventors (IEYI) in Taiwan. The objective of the invention exhibition is to encourage young students to make innovative projects by applying STEM knowledge and collaborative design. We collected 220 valid data from participants in the 2021 Taiwan IEYI selection competition and conducted a confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling to test the hypotheses. Results indicated that: (1) hands-on making attitude was positively related to two types of epistemic curiosity; (2) interest-type epistemic curiosity (IEC) and deprivation-type epistemic curiosity (DEC) were positively associated with STEM career interest; additionally, DEC had a higher coefficient on STEM career interest than IEC; (3) both types of EC had a mediating role between hands-on making attitude and STEM career interest. It is expected that encouraging students to participate in invention exhibition competitions can raise both types of EC and increase their interest in pursuing STEM careers

    The Replication and Spread of Functional Food Messages: The Influence of Personalities on Internet Meme Behavior

    The term Internet memes was coined to describe the phenomenon of replicating and spreading messages via social media. This study explores individual personality traits in relation to Internet meme behavior in the context of online news about functional foods based on the expectancy-confirmation process, and also the correlates between value perception and consequential behavior. An online convenience sample was used to collect data by posting on LINE, the instant communication tool, and a total of 343 questionnaires were returned, 252 valid questionnaires were used for structural equation modeling and hypothesis verification. The results found that: (1) Neuroticism was positively related and Extraversion was negatively related to value expectation for consuming functional foods; (2) The food value for health expectation participants can predict replication and usage satisfaction; (3) The usage satisfaction and replicative behavior can predict the frequency of spread messages. The results suggest that consumers with Neuroticism will need to reduce processes of Internet memes to online fake news about functional food

    Technology Anxiety and Implicit Learning Ability Affect Technology Leadership to Promote the use of Information Technology at Elementary Schools

    Abstract“Oversold & underused” is a criticism by Cuban (2001) of the investment of information technology (IT) in the classroom. Recently, Taiwan's educational administration has provided considerable financial support to IT in elementary schools, but few reports have provided evidence of its successful use. The present study aims to identify the personal factors that affect principals’ beliefs about the promotion of IT in their schools. 331 data were collected and analyzed with AMOS 19.0. The results of this study indicated that greater technology anxiety was negatively associated with perceived ease of using (PEU) IT, whereas implicit learning ability was positively correlated with perceived usefulness of IT. Technology leadership increased significantly with PEU and perceived usefulness (PU), it is also associated with the intention to overcome difficulties in promoting information technology in schools. The implications of this study may contribute to the reduction of principals’ technology anxiety, increasing their implicit learning ability and therefore fostering the future implementation of IT in schools, changing the myth of technology as “oversold & underused”

    Electron-phonon physics from first principles using the EPW code

    EPW is an open-source software for ab initio\textit{ab initio} calculations of electron-phonon interactions and related materials properties. The code combines density functional perturbation theory and maximally-localized Wannier functions to efficiently compute electron-phonon coupling matrix elements on ultra-fine Brillouin zone grids. This data is employed for predictive calculations of temperature-dependent properties and phonon-assisted quantum processes in bulk solids and low-dimensional materials. Here, we report on significant new developments in the code that occurred during the period 2016-2022, namely: a transport module for the calculation of charge carrier mobility and conductivity under electric and magnetic fields within the ab initio\textit{ab initio} Boltzmann transport equation; a superconductivity module for the calculation of critical temperature and gap structure in phonon-mediated superconductors within the ab initio\textit{ab initio} anisotropic multi-band Eliashberg theory; an optics module for calculations of phonon-assisted indirect transitions; a module for the calculation of small and large polarons without supercells using the ab initio\textit{ab initio} polaron equations; and a module for calculating electron-phonon couplings, band structure renormalization, and temperature-dependent optical spectra using the special displacement method. For each capability, we outline the methodology and implementation, and provide example calculations. We describe recent code refactoring to prepare EPW for exascale architectures, we discuss efficient parallelization strategies, and report on extreme parallel scaling tests.Comment: 61 pages, 9 figure
