Field-induced commensurate long-range order in the Haldane-gap system NDMAZ

High-field neutron diffraction studies of the new quantum-disordered S=1 linear-chain antiferromagnet Ni(C5_5H14_{14}N2_2)2_2N3_3(ClO4_4) (NDMAZ) are reported. At T=70 mK, at a critical field Hc=13.4H_c=13.4 T applied along the (013) direction, a phase transition to a commensurate N\'{e}el-like ordered state is observed. The results are discussed in the context of existing theories of quantum phase transitions in Haldane-gap antiferromagnets, and in comparions with previous studies of the related system Ni(C5_5H14_{14}N2_2)2_2N3_3(PF6_6)

Deformation of LeBrun's ALE metrics with negative mass

In this article we investigate deformations of a scalar-flat K\"ahler metric on the total space of complex line bundles over CP^1 constructed by C. LeBrun. In particular, we find that the metric is included in a one-dimensional family of such metrics on the four-manifold, where the complex structure in the deformation is not the standard one.Comment: 20 pages, no figure. V2: added two references, filled a gap in the proof of Theorem 1.2. V3: corrected a wrong statement about Kuranishi family of a Hirzebruch surface stated in the last paragraph in the proof of Theorem 1.2, and fixed a relevant error in the proof. Also added a reference [24] about Kuranishi family of Hirzebruch surface

    On Asynchronous Session Semantics

    Get PDF
This paper studies a behavioural theory of the π-calculus with session types under the fundamental principles of the practice of distributed computing — asynchronous communication which is order-preserving inside each connection (session), augmented with asynchronous inspection of events (message arrivals). A new theory of bisimulations is introduced, distinct from either standard asynchronous or synchronous bisimilarity, accurately capturing the semantic nature of session-based asynchronously communicating processes augmented with event primitives. The bisimilarity coincides with the reduction-closed barbed congruence. We examine its properties and compare them with existing semantics. Using the behavioural theory, we verify that the program transformation of multithreaded into event-driven session based processes, using Lauer-Needham duality, is type and semantic preserving

Secalonic acid A from Pseudoparmelia sphaerospora (Nyl.) Hale and P. hypomilta (Fée) Hale (Parmeliaceae)

Secalonic acid A, a yellow pigment from fungal metabolism, was isolated from the lichens Pseudoparmelia sphaerospora and P. hypomilta. From P. sphaerospora was also isolated the depsidone hypostictic acid. The structure of these compounds was determined by spectroscopic methods and comparison with literature data

Emergent Antiferromagnetism in D-wave Superconductor with Strong Paramagnetic Pair-Breaking

It is theoretically shown that, in the four-fold symmetric d-wave superconducting phase, a paramagnetic pair-breaking (PPB) enhanced sufficiently by increasing the applied magnetic field induces not only the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) superconducting state but also an incommensurate antiferromagnetic (AFM) order with Q-vector parallel to a gap node. This AFM ordering tends to occur only below H_{c2} at low temperatures, i.e., in the presence of a nonvanishing superconducting energy gap Δ\Delta rather than in the normal phase. Through a detailed study on the resulting AFM order and its interplay with the FFLO spatial modulation of Δ\Delta, it is argued that the strange high field and low temperature (HFLT) superconducting phase of CeCoIn_5 is a coexisting phase of the FFLO and incommensurate AFM orders, and that this PPB mechanism of an AFM ordering is also the origin of the AFM quantum critical fluctuation which has occurred close to H_{c2}(0) in several unconventional superconductors including CeCoIn_5.Comment: 22 pages, 12 figures.2 references and related comnments are added.Accepted for publication in Phys. Rev.

On Observing Dynamic Prioritised Actions in SOC

    Get PDF
We study the impact on observational semantics for SOC of priority mechanisms which combine dynamic priority with local pre-emption. We define manageable notions of strong and weak labelled bisimilarities for COWS, a process calculus for SOC, and provide alternative characterisations in terms of open barbed bisimilarities. These semantics show that COWS’s priority mechanisms partially recover the capability to observe receive actions (that could not be observed in a purely asynchronous setting) and that high priority primitives for termination impose specific conditions on the bisimilarities

Spin-Reorientation Transition of Field-Induced Magnetic Ordering Phases in the Anisotropic Haldane System

A possible spin-reorientation transition in field-induced magnetic ordering phases of the S=1 Haldane system with large easy-plane anisotropy is proposed, using an effective Lagrangian formalism as well as the density matrix renormalization group method. Such a spin-reorientation transition is predicted in the case where the applied magnetic field is inclined from the easy axis of the anisotropy. We point out that this transition has a close connection with a variation of the order parameter even at zero temperature, although it is different from a quantum analog of the so-called spin-flop transition proposed for the system having a strong easy axis anisotropy. In connection with a novel phase observed recently in the Haldane system at high fields, we discuss possible implications for the field-induced magnetic ordering.Comment: 14 pages, 7 figure

Progresses in the validation of the FLUKA atmospheric neutrino flux calculations

    Get PDF
The FLUKA calculation of the atmospheric neutrino fluxes have been cross-checked by comparing predictions on lepton fluxes in atmosphere to experimental data. The dependence of predicted neutrino fluxes on the shape and normalization of primary spectrum is also investigatedComment: Presented at TAUP2001 (Sep. 8-12, Assergi, Italy). 5 pages, 1 figur
