Repulsion and absorption of the Σ\Sigma-nucleus potential for Σ\Sigma^--5^5He in the 6^6Li(π\pi^-, K+K^+) reaction

We study phenomenologically inclusive spectra of the 6^6Li(π\pi^-, K+K^+) reaction at 1.2 GeV/cc within a distorted-wave impulse approximation with the optimal Fermi-averaging πpK+Σ\pi^- p \to K^+ \Sigma^- tt matrix. We attempt to clarify the property of a Σ\Sigma-nucleus potential for Σ\Sigma^--5^5He by comparing the calculated spectra with the data of the J-PARC E10 experiment. The result shows that the repulsive and absorptive components of the Σ\Sigma^--5^5He potential provide the ability to explain the data of the continuum spectra in Σ\Sigma and Λ\Lambda regions; the strengths of VΣV_\Sigma \simeq +30 MeV and WΣW_\Sigma \simeq -26 MeV are favored within the Woods-Saxon potential, consistent with analyses for heavier nuclei. Effects of the size and potential range for Σ\Sigma^--5^5He in the neutron excess of (NZ)/(N+Z)=(N-Z)/(N+Z)= 0.2 are also discussed.Comment: 35 pages, 11 figure

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family members are involved in the regulation of a variety of biological phenomena. Because most of their activity is exerted via a signaling complex composed of FGF, heparin/heparan sulfate and FGF receptor tyrosine kinase, it is important to study the dynamic behavior of all the molecules in the complex without disturbing their interaction or activity.</p> <p>Findings</p> <p>We used <it>E. coli </it>to express biologically active human FGF1 tagged at its C-terminus with myc-(His)6, V5-(His)6 or 3xFLAG-(His)6. We found that the tagged FGF1s had affinities for heparin that were similar to that of the native form. The tagged FGF1s also exhibited mitogenic activity similar to that of the native form. Apparently, the tags do not interfere with the formation of the three-member complex involving FGF1, FGF receptor and heparan sulfate/heparin.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Tagged FGF1s should be useful for investigating the dynamic behavior of FGF1 in the context of its three-member signaling complex and other molecular complexes.</p

Behavioral Analysis of Genetically Modified Mice Indicates Essential Roles of Neurosteroidal Estrogen

Aromatase in the mouse brain is expressed only in the nerve cells of specific brain regions with a transient peak during the neonatal period when sexual behaviors become organized. The aromatase-knockout (ArKO) mouse, generated to shed light on the physiological functions of estrogen in the brain, exhibited various abnormal behaviors, concomitant with undetectable estrogen and increased androgen in the blood. To further elucidate the effects of neurosteroidal estrogens on behavioral phenotypes, we first prepared an brain-specific aromatase transgenic (bsArTG) mouse by introduction of a human aromatase transgene controlled under a −6.5 kb upstream region of the brain-specific promoter of the mouse aromatase gene into fertilized mouse eggs, because the −6.5 kb promoter region was previously shown to contain the minimal essential element responsible for brain-specific spatiotemporal expression. Then, an ArKO mouse expressing the human aromatase only in the brain was generated by crossing the bsArTG mouse with the ArKO mouse. The resulting mice (ArKO/bsArTG mice) nearly recovered from abnormal sexual, aggressive, and locomotive (exploratory) behaviors, in spite of having almost the same serum levels of estrogen and androgen as the adult ArKO mouse. These results suggest that estrogens locally synthesized in the specific neurons of the perinatal mouse brain directly act on the neurons and play crucial roles in the organization of neuronal networks participating in the control of sexual, aggressive, and locomotive (exploratory) behaviors

jaw osteonecrosis risk in hip fractures

Purpose : Antiresorptive agents, such as bisphosphonates, are useful for the prevention of the recurrence of hip fractures. However, their administration has a risk of antiresorptive agent-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (ARONJ), and risk factors include poor oral hygiene. It is difficult for an orthopedic surgeon to examine a patient’s oral condition thoroughly. This study evaluated the relationship between risk factors for ARONJ and intraoral findings in hip fracture patients. Materials and Methods : We evaluated 79 patients (average age of 82.2 years) with hip fracture surgery who underwent an oral assessment by dentists. The risk assessments of the intraoral findings were classified into four levels (levels 0-3), with levels 2 and 3 requiring dental treatment intervention. Data that could be extracted as risk factors of ARONJ were also examined. Results : Level 1 was found most frequently (54.4%), followed by level 0 (35.4%), level 2 (8.9%), level 3 (1.3%). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for the number of risk factors for the two groups (dental treatment intervention required and unnecessary) and oral findings were 0.732. When the cut-off value was set to two risk factors, the specificity and sensitivity was 53.5% and 87.5%. Conclusions : For hip fracture patients with a more than 2 risk factors, dental visits are recommended to prevent ARONJ. This is a useful evaluation method that can be used to screen for ONJ from data obtained from other risk factors, even if it is difficult to evaluate the oral condition in hospitals where dentists are absent

As a result of the revision of Museum Law Enforcement Rules, the subjects that must be completed to acquire the curator qualification have changed significantly since April 2012, which constitutes a major change in the history of this qualification. To cope with this change, we integrated the curator qualification specific programs of each faculty into a new course for students of all universities. In this paper, through statistical data analysis, we examined the impact of this change on attendance trends, including the term system newly adopted by Hiroshima University. Before and after the transition to the new course, the number of program registrants and qualifications greatly decreased, and the acquisition rate has also declined significantly. These phenomena were not based on changes in specific faculties or fields, but are common to all faculties subject to program registration during the old course. Through this analysis, we presumed that several factors, such as the great increase in the required number of credits, the change to the program for the whole school, and the change from a two-semester system to the four-semester system, were all interrelated to each other, which make it difficult to achieve both specialized and curator qualifications.
