    Improving Pareto Front Learning via Multi-Sample Hypernetworks

    Pareto Front Learning (PFL) was recently introduced as an effective approach to obtain a mapping function from a given trade-off vector to a solution on the Pareto front, which solves the multi-objective optimization (MOO) problem. Due to the inherent trade-off between conflicting objectives, PFL offers a flexible approach in many scenarios in which the decision makers can not specify the preference of one Pareto solution over another, and must switch between them depending on the situation. However, existing PFL methods ignore the relationship between the solutions during the optimization process, which hinders the quality of the obtained front. To overcome this issue, we propose a novel PFL framework namely PHN-HVI, which employs a hypernetwork to generate multiple solutions from a set of diverse trade-off preferences and enhance the quality of the Pareto front by maximizing the Hypervolume indicator defined by these solutions. The experimental results on several MOO machine learning tasks show that the proposed framework significantly outperforms the baselines in producing the trade-off Pareto front.Comment: Accepted to AAAI-2

    Application of hybrid control algorithm for the vehicle active suspension system to reduce the vibration

    This research proposes a hybrid control algorithm to enhance smoothness in a vehicle’s motion. The control signal is synthesized from two separate controllers, Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) and Sliding Mode Control (SMC), to achieve superior control performance. The novelty of the proposed control algorithm lies in using a double-loop algorithm to determine the controller parameters. The algorithm proposed in this research involves two computational processes to determine the model's optimal values including the raw value and the acceptable value. The proposed control algorithm has been simulated considering three specific cases corresponding to the three types of road stimuli. The results demonstrate that the values of sprung mass displacement and acceleration dropped considerably with the application of the proposed algorithm. Moreover, the change in vertical force at the wheel is also reduced with the application of the algorithm particularly in the third case where the vertical force at the wheel has reached to zero. The average values of vehicle body displacement are found to be 166.17mm (for passive case), 54.20mm (for PID) and 42.52mm (for SMC). The proposed control algorithm managed to reduce this value to 8.95mm as evidenced by simulation results. Finally, the response of the control system when subjected to an excitation signal from the road surface further demonstrates efficacy of the proposed hybrid control algorithm

    A Framework for Controllable Pareto Front Learning with Completed Scalarization Functions and its Applications

    Pareto Front Learning (PFL) was recently introduced as an efficient method for approximating the entire Pareto front, the set of all optimal solutions to a Multi-Objective Optimization (MOO) problem. In the previous work, the mapping between a preference vector and a Pareto optimal solution is still ambiguous, rendering its results. This study demonstrates the convergence and completion aspects of solving MOO with pseudoconvex scalarization functions and combines them into Hypernetwork in order to offer a comprehensive framework for PFL, called Controllable Pareto Front Learning. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our approach is highly accurate and significantly less computationally expensive than prior methods in term of inference time.Comment: Under Review at Neural Networks Journa

    The Challenges in Implementing Vietnam’s Nationally-Determined Contribution (NDC) in the Agriculture Sector under the Current Supporting Laws, Regulations, and Policies

    This study reviews the current supporting laws, regulations, and policies in Vietnam and their applicability in the effective implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) agriculture activities in Vietnam. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) is responsible for the development of NDC activities for the agricultural sector. It can be noted that there is a strong supporting legal framework in Vietnam. There are, however, some challenges and gaps that could potentially affect the effective implementation of NDC activities in agriculture. The study considered the following five areas as critical to NDC implementation: 1) awareness and technical capacity; 2) implementation coordination; 3) downscaling to the provinces; 4) engagement of private sector and NGOs; and 5) regulatory framework. Some recommendations are proposed on how to address the challenges in the five areas identified

    Class based Influence Functions for Error Detection

    Influence functions (IFs) are a powerful tool for detecting anomalous examples in large scale datasets. However, they are unstable when applied to deep networks. In this paper, we provide an explanation for the instability of IFs and develop a solution to this problem. We show that IFs are unreliable when the two data points belong to two different classes. Our solution leverages class information to improve the stability of IFs.     Vietnam geographical exploitation under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea in 1982 (UNCLOS 1982)

    As an active member of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea - UNCLOS, Vietnam has completed 3 Reports on the Limits of the Continental Shelf and has submitted two of them to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf - CLCS, before the deadline 13-5-2009. Those are: (1) Outer Limits of the Vietnam’s Extended Continental Shelf: North Area (VNM-N); (2) Outer Limits of the Vietnam’s Extended Continental Shelf: Middle Area (VNM-M) and (3) Vietnam - Malaysia Joint Continental Shelf Submission. The VNM-M has not yet been submitted but it was mentioned to the CLCS and will be submitted in the appropriate time.Vietnam’s submissions were highly appreciated by CLCS; although the CLCS has not yet organized a special sub-committee to look at our reports, the secretariat of CLCS has already posted the executive reports of our submissions, with our principle claims on the continental shelf, on the website of the CLCS since May 2009.     20-Hydroxyecdysone from Dacrycarpus imbricatus bark inhibits the proliferation of acute myeloid leukemia cells

    Abstract Objective To investigate the anti-proliferative effects of 20-hydroxyecdysone isolated from the bark of Dacrycarpus imbricatus (Blume) de Laub. Methods Column chromatography was used for isolation of compounds from plant material. The structure of the isolated compound was identified by mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance techniques, including HSQC, HMBC, NOE-difference experiments. The isolated compound was tested for its anti-proliferative activity in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and OCI-AML cells. Results Compound 1 was isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction of Dacrycarpus imbricatus barks by column chromatography. Its chemical structure was identified as 20-hydroxyecdysone (20HE), a cholestane-type ecdysteroid, by a combination of mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometric analyses. Our goal was to test the anti-proliferative activity of 20HE using the OCI-AML cell line. 20HE significantly decreased OCI cell number at a concentration of 1 mg/mL, whereas lower concentrations were ineffective. Moreover, this decrease was due to partial blockage of the G 1 /S phase of the cell cycle, with a reduction of cells in the G 2 M phase, not due to increased apoptosis. Conclusions This indicates that 20HE significantly decreases the number of cells in the G 1 /S phase of the cell cycle in human AML cells. This is the first time that the anti-proliferative activity of 20HE against a human tumor cell line has been reported

    Petrography and geochemistry of Permian basalts of the Cam Thuy formation and their relation to Song Da and Emeishan magmatic rocks

    Cam Thuy Permian basalts consisting of thick lava flows and pyroclastic layers appear along both sides of the Song Ma fault zone in Thanh Hoa and in Son La and Ninh Binh provinces, NW Vietnam. The magmatism has been thought to have genetic relationship with Permian volcanism in the Song Da rift zone, which is believed to be part of the Emeishan large igneous province, having been extruded along the Red River shear zone following Paleogene India-Eurasian collision. A set of Cam Thuy volcanic samples including olivine and alkaline basalts was collected in the Lam Son area (Tho Xuan, Thanh Hoa province) to analyze for geochemical major, trace element and Sr-Nd-Pb isotopic composition. The Cam Thuy basalts are high-TiO2, CaO, FeO*, moderate MgO and SiO2 that plot between the Song Da and Emeishan high- and low-Ti basalt distribution fields and closely overlap that of Song Da’s high-Ti field. The primitive mantle and chondrite normalized trace element patterns of Cam Thuy basalts are essentially enriched oceanic island basalt (OIB)-like; this feature, together with crustal contamination-free, chondritic Sr, Nd and Pb initial (255Ma) isotopic composition are certainly of asthenospheric origin. These geochemical and isotopic characteristics are closely analogous to those features observed for the Song Da high-Ti basalts, suggesting similarity in their source of origin. Nevertheless, while the Song Da (and Emeishan) magmatism is signified by the presence of both high- and low-Ti basalts, with the latter being derived from heterogeneous and partially crustal-material contaminated sources in the lithospheric mantle, this low-Ti volcanic rock type has yet to be discovered in the Cam Thuy formation.ReferencesAnders, E., Grevesse, N., 1989.
