Indeterminacy and Market Instability
This note shows that indeterminacy arising from an economy exhibiting production with social constant returns to scale may be related to the instability of the consumption goods market equilibrium. Furthermore, trade does not contribute to indeterminacy; indeterminacy arises becasue each country’s equilibrium path is already indeterminate before trade.Indeterminacy, Market Instability
Autarkic Indeterminacy and Trade Determinacy
We extend the model of Nishimura and Shimomura (2002) to consider a two-country framework where under autarky indeterminacy arises in one country but determinacy in the other, and show that indeterminacy could be eliminated when trade takes place between the two.Indeterminacy, Trade, Two-Country Framework.
Moduli spaces of vector bundles over a Klein surface
A compact topological surface S, possibly non-orientable and with non-empty
boundary, always admits a Klein surface structure (an atlas whose transition
maps are dianalytic). Its complex cover is, by definition, a compact Riemann
surface M endowed with an anti-holomorphic involution which determines
topologically the original surface S. In this paper, we compare dianalytic
vector bundles over S and holomorphic vector bundles over M, devoting special
attention to the implications that this has for moduli varieties of semistable
vector bundles over M. We construct, starting from S, totally real, totally
geodesic, Lagrangian submanifolds of moduli varieties of semistable vector
bundles of fixed rank and degree over M. This relates the present work to the
constructions of Ho and Liu over non-orientable compact surfaces with empty
boundary (arXiv:math/0605587) .Comment: 19 pages, 1 figur

On the string interpretation of M(atrix) theory
It has been proposed recently that, in the framework of M(atrix) theory, N=8
supersymmetric U(N) Yang-Mills theory in 1+1 dimensions gives rise to type IIA
long string configurations. We point out that the quantum moduli space of
gives rise to two quantum numbers, which fit very well into the
M(atrix) theory. The two quantum numbers become familiar if one switches to a
IIB picture, where they represent configurations of D-strings and fundamental
strings. We argue that, due to the SL(2,Z) symmetry, of the IIB theory, such
quantum numbers must represent configurations that are present also in the IIA
framework.Comment: 13 pages, Latex, more comment
A Systematic Analysis of the Lepton Polarization Asymmetries in the Rare B Decay, B -> X_s\tau^+\tau^-
The most general model-independent analysis of the lepton polarization
asymmetries in the rare B decay, \Bstt, is presented. We present the
longitudinal, normal and transverse polarization asymmetries for the
and , and combinations of them, as functions of the Wilson coefficients
of twelve independent four-Fermi interactions, ten of them local and two
nonlocal. These procedures will tell us which type of operators contributes to
the process. And it will be very useful to pin down new physics systematically,
once we have the experimental data with high statistics and a deviation from
the Standard Model is found.Comment: 24 pages, 8 figures, LaTe
Households Inclination in Waste Separation Program
This paper examines the effect of socio-economic factors on recycling practices among households in Malaysia. Questionnaires were administered to 600 households in the newly emerging conurbation of Iskandar Malaysia Region. The results indicate that socio-economic variables have a significant effect on recycling activities. The results suggest that older people are more inclined to separate the households waste. The younger generation cited lack of time as the main reason for not recycling. The paper recommends several options to suit different households need to improve waste separation program. These include providing adequate infrastructures and raising environmental knowledge and values. Keywords: household; waste separation; recycling behaviour; Iskandar Malaysia2398-4279 © 2017 The Authors. A toy model of open membrane field theory in constant 3-form flux
Based on an explicit computation of the scattering amplitude of four open
membranes in a constant 3-form background, we construct a toy model of the
field theory for open membranes in the large C field limit. It is a
generalization of the noncommutative field theories which describe open strings
in a constant 2-form flux. The noncommutativity due to the B-field background
is now replaced by a nonassociative triplet product. The triplet product
satisfies the consistency conditions of lattice 3d gravity, which is inherent
in the world-volume theory of open membranes. We show the UV/IR mixing of the
toy model by computing some Feynman diagrams. Inclusion of the internal degree
of freedom is also possible through the idea of the cubic matrix.Comment: 31 pages, latex, 2 eps figure
Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibition in type 2, diabetic patients – interaction with ACE insertion/deletion polymorphism
Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) insertion(I)/deletion (D) polymorphism may modify the effect of inhibition of the renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system (RAAS) on survival and cardiorenal outcomes in type 2, diabetes. A consecutive cohort of 2089 Chinese type 2 diabetic patients with mean (±standard deviation) age of 59.7±13.1 years were genotyped for this polymorphism by polymerase chain reaction method and were followed prospectively for a median period of 44.6 (interquartile range: 23.7, 57.5) months. Clinical outcomes, including all-cause mortality, cardiovascular and renal end points, were examined. The frequency for I allele was 67.1 and 32.9% for D allele, with observed genotype frequencies of 45.8, 42.6, and 11.6% for 3, DI and DD, respectively. ACE DD polymorphism was an independent predictor for renal end point with hazard ratio (HR) (95% confidence interval) of 1.72 (1.16, 2.56), but not for cardiovascular end point or mortality. After controlling for confounding factors, including ACE I/D genotype, the usage of RAAS inhibitors was associated with reduced risk of mortality (HR 0.34 (0.23, 0.50)) and renal end point (HR 0.55 (0.40, 0.75)). On subgroup analysis, the beneficial effects on survival (II vs DI vs DD: HR 0.29 (0.16, 0.51) vs 0.25 (0.14, 0.46) vs 1.33 (0.41, 4.31)) and renoprotection (II vs DI vs DD: 0.52 (0.30, 0.90) vs 0.43 (0.25, 0.72) vs 0.95 (0.43, 2.12)) were most evident in II and DI carriers. In conclusion, inhibition of RAAS was associated with reduced risk of mortality and occurrence of renal end point in Chinese type 2 diabetic patients. These benefits were most evident among II and DI carriers
Moyal Representation of the String Field Star Product in the Presence of a B-background
In this paper we show that in the presence of an anti-symmetric tensor
-background, Witten's star algebra for open string fields persists to
possess the structure of a direct product of commuting Moyal pairs. The
interplay between the noncommutativity due to three-string overlap and that due
to the -background is our main concern. In each pair of noncommutative
directions parallel to the -background, the Moyal pairs mix string modes in
the two directions and are labeled, in addition to a continuous parameter, by
{\it two} discrete values as well. However, the Moyal parameters are
-dependent only for discrete pairs. We have also demonstrated the large-
contraction of the star algebra, with one of the discrete Moyal pairs dropping
out while the other giving rise to the center-of-mass noncommutative function
algebra.Comment: minor notation chang
