    An algebraic description of screw dislocations in SC and BCC crystal lattices

    We give an algebraic description of screw dislocations in a crystal, especially simple cubic (SC) and body centered cubic (BCC) crystals, using free abelian groups and fibering structures.     Flow cytometric analysis of skin blister fluid induced by mosquito bites in a patient with chronic active Epstein-Barr virus infection

    金沢大学医薬保健研究域医学系In chronic active Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection (CAEBV), ectopic EBV infection has been described in T or natural killer (NK) cells. NK cell-type infection (NK-CAEBV) is characterized by large granular lymphocytosis, high IgE levels and unusual reactions to mosquito bites, including severe local skin reactions, fever and liver dysfunction. However, the mechanisms underlying these reactions remain undetermined. Herein, we describe a patient with NK-CAEBV whose blister fluid after mosquito bites was analyzed. The patient exhibited significant increases in the percentage of CD56+ NK cells in the fluid compared with a simple mosquito allergy, in which the majority of infiltrated cells were CD203c+ cells, indicating basophils and/or mast cells. His fluid also contained CD203c+ cells, and his circulating basophils were activated by mosquito extracts in vitro. These results suggest that CD203c+ cells as well as NK cells may play pathogenic roles in the severe skin reactions to mosquito bites in NK-CAEBV. © 2009 The Japanese Society of Hematology.出版者に照会中.2010年12月より全文公開予定

    Pathway to psychiatric care in Japan: A multicenter observational study

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>This study examines pathways to psychiatric care in Japan using the same method as the collaborative study carried out in 1991 under the auspices of the World Health Organization.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Thirteen psychiatric facilities in Japan were involved. Of the 228 patients who contacted psychiatric facilities with any psychiatric illness, eighty four visiting psychiatric facilities for the first time were enrolled. Pathways to psychiatric care, delays from the onset of illness to treatment prior to reaching psychiatrists were surveyed.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Thirty three patients (39.4%) directly accessed mental health professionals, 32 patients (38.1%) reached them via general hospital, and 13 patients (15.5%) via private practitioners. The patients who consulted mental health professionals as their first carers took a longer time before consulting psychiatrists than the patients who consulted non-mental health professionals as their first carers. The patients who presented somatic symptoms as their main problem experienced longer delay from the onset of illness to psychiatric care than the patients who complained about depressive or anxiety symptoms. Prior to the visit to mental health professionals, patients were rarely informed about their diagnosis and did not receive appropriate treatments from their physicians. Private practitioners were more likely to prescribe psychotropics than physicians in general hospitals, but were less likely to inform their patients of their diagnosis.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>This first pathway to psychiatric care study in Japan demonstrated that referral pathway in Japan heavily relies on medical resources. The study indicates possible fields and gives indications, underlining the importance of improving skills and knowledge that will facilitate the recognition of psychiatric disorders presenting with somatic and depressive symptoms in the general health care system and by private practitioners.</p

    [Background ]Erlotinib, epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitor(EGFR-TKI), is effective for advanced and metastatic non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC)with EGFR mutation. However, the report of Erlotinib as induction therapy is rare. We report a surgical case of NSCLC with Erlotinib as induction therapy. [Case ]A41-years-old man, diagnosed left lung adenocarcinoma with EGFR mutation(exon19deletion), was referred to our hospital. CT showed that the tumor was 35mm in S8 of the left lung and #7 lymphnode was swelling markedly(cT2aN2M0 stage ⅢA). He took Erlotinib(150mg/day)for12weeks at first because of EGFR mutation positive. The evaluation of Erlotinib was partial response in RESIST. He could take radical operation as lower lobe and lingual segment resection, because CT showed bulky #7got smaller significantly. There was no postoperative complication. The pathological finding was adenocarcinoma(papillary& acinartype), PL0, v(+), ly(+), br(-), pa(-), pv(-), Ef :1b,(ypT1aN2M0stage ⅢA). He has taken adjuvant therapy(Erlotinib150mg/day)for28weeks. There is no recurrence six months after operation. [Conclusion ]It is possible that Erlotinib as induction-therapy is very effective in patients with EGFR mutation like this case ; however there is no evidence of EGFR-TKI as induction therapy. It is necessary to validate the effectiveness of Erlotinib as induction therapy

    The ASTRO-H X-ray Observatory

    The joint JAXA/NASA ASTRO-H mission is the sixth in a series of highly successful X-ray missions initiated by the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS). ASTRO-H will investigate the physics of the high-energy universe via a suite of four instruments, covering a very wide energy range, from 0.3 keV to 600 keV. These instruments include a high-resolution, high-throughput spectrometer sensitive over 0.3-2 keV with high spectral resolution of Delta E < 7 eV, enabled by a micro-calorimeter array located in the focal plane of thin-foil X-ray optics; hard X-ray imaging spectrometers covering 5-80 keV, located in the focal plane of multilayer-coated, focusing hard X-ray mirrors; a wide-field imaging spectrometer sensitive over 0.4-12 keV, with an X-ray CCD camera in the focal plane of a soft X-ray telescope; and a non-focusing Compton-camera type soft gamma-ray detector, sensitive in the 40-600 keV band.     The Quiescent Intracluster Medium in the Core of the Perseus Cluster

    Clusters of galaxies are the most massive gravitationally-bound objects in the Universe and are still forming. They are thus important probes of cosmological parameters and a host of astrophysical processes. Knowledge of the dynamics of the pervasive hot gas, which dominates in mass over stars in a cluster, is a crucial missing ingredient. It can enable new insights into mechanical energy injection by the central supermassive black hole and the use of hydrostatic equilibrium for the determination of cluster masses. X-rays from the core of the Perseus cluster are emitted by the 50 million K diffuse hot plasma filling its gravitational potential well. The Active Galactic Nucleus of the central galaxy NGC1275 is pumping jetted energy into the surrounding intracluster medium, creating buoyant bubbles filled with relativistic plasma. These likely induce motions in the intracluster medium and heat the inner gas preventing runaway radiative cooling; a process known as Active Galactic Nucleus Feedback. Here we report on Hitomi X-ray observations of the Perseus cluster core, which reveal a remarkably quiescent atmosphere where the gas has a line-of-sight velocity dispersion of 164+/-10 km/s in a region 30-60 kpc from the central nucleus. A gradient in the line-of-sight velocity of 150+/-70 km/s is found across the 60 kpc image of the cluster core. Turbulent pressure support in the gas is 4% or less of the thermodynamic pressure, with large scale shear at most doubling that estimate. We infer that total cluster masses determined from hydrostatic equilibrium in the central regions need little correction for turbulent pressure.Comment: 31 pages, 11 Figs, published in Nature July
