Modal interpolation program, L215 (INTERP). Volume 1: Engineering and usage

The usage of the Modal Interpolation Program L215 (INTERP) is described. The program uses modal data to form sets of arrays containing interpolation coefficients. The interpolation arrays can then be used to determine displacements at various aerodynamic surface and surface slopes that are parallel and perpendicular to the freestream direction. Classical Simulation of Quantum Fields II

We consider the classical time evolution of a real scalar field in 2 dimensional Minkowski space with a $\lambda \phi^4$ interaction. We compute the spatial and temporal two-point correlation functions and extract the renormalized mass of the interacting theory. We find our results are consistent with the one- and two-loop quantum computation. We also perform Monte Carlo simulations of the quantum theory and conclude that the classical scheme is able to produce more accurate results with a fraction of the CPU time.Comment: 16 pages, 8 figures, now matches published versio

The program modifies the theoretical equation of motion and load equations generated by the DYLOFLEX programs Equation of Motion L217 (EOM), and Load Equations, L218 (LOADS), respectively

High temperature glass coatings for superalloys and refractory metals

New glasses are used as protective coatings on metals and alloys susceptible to oxidation at high temperatures in oxidizing atmospheres. Glasses are stable and solid at temperatures up to 1000 deg C, adhere well to metal surfaces, and are usable for metals with broad range of expansion coefficients

A Class of Exact Solutions of the Faddeev Model

A class of exact solutions of the Faddeev model, that is, the modified SO(3) nonlinear sigma model with the Skyrme term, is obtained in the four dimensional Minkowskian spacetime. The solutions are interpreted as the isothermal coordinates of a Riemannian surface. One special solution of the static vortex type is investigated numerically. Measurement of the Noise Spectrum Using a Multiple-Pulse Sequence

A method is proposed for obtaining the spectrum for noise that causes the phase decoherence of a qubit directly from experimentally available data. The method is based on a simple relationship between the spectrum and the coherence time of the qubit in the presence of a pi-pulse sequence. Ballistic transport in induced one-dimensional hole systems

We have fabricated and studied a ballistic one-dimensional p-type quantum wire using an undoped AlGaAs/GaAs heterostructure. The absence of modulation doping eliminates remote ionized impurity scattering and allows high mobilities to be achieved over a wide range of hole densities, and in particular, at very low densities where carrier-carrier interactions are strongest. The device exhibits clear quantized conductance plateaus with highly stable gate characteristics. These devices provide opportunities for studying spin-orbit coupling and interaction effects in mesoscopic hole systems in the strong interaction regime where rs > 10.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures (accepted to Applied Physics Letters
