Langevin + Hydrodynamics Approach to Heavy Quark Propagation and Correlation in QGP
We develop a relativistic Langevin dynamics under the background of strongly
interacting quark-gluon fluid described by the (3+1)-dimensional hydrodynamics.
The drag force acting on charm and bottom quarks is parametrized according to
the formula obtained from the anti-de-Sitter space/conformal field theory
(AdS/CFT) correspondence. In this setup, we calculate the nuclear modification
factor for the single-electrons from the charm and bottom quarks
to extract the magnitude of the drag force from the PHENIX and STAR data. The
for single-electrons with GeV indicates that the
drag force is close to the AdS/CFT prediction. Effects of the drag force on the
elliptic flow of single-electrons are also discussed. Moreover, we predict the
electron-muon correlation which is closely related to the heavy-quark pair

Enhancement of experimental metastasis by gamma-interferon in a murine adenocarcinoma.
This study was conducted to examine the effect of gamma-interferon (IFN-gamma) on experimental metastasis formation by murine colon 26 adenocarcinoma in BALB/c mice. We found that the number of experimental lung metastases was increased after colon 26 cells were pretreated for 1 h with as little as 1 OIU/ml of IFN-gamma. 5-[125I] iodo-2'-deoxyuridine-radiolabeled colon 26 cells pretreated with IFN-gamma remained at higher level in the lung at 24h after intravenous injection than when the cells were not pretreated. In vivo elimination of asialo GM1-positive cells increased the number of lung metastases and, in such mice, there was no longer a difference in metastatic ability between control and IFN-gamma-treated cells. Colon 26 cells were completely resistant to lysis by isolated splenocytes. Splenocytes incubated in vitro with interleukin 2 exhibited moderate cytotoxicity against colon 26 cells, but there were no significant differences between control and IFN-gamma-treated cells. Colon 26 cells pretreated with IFN-gamma demonstrated resistance to tumor necrosis factor alpha-mediated growth inhibition. The enhancement of metastases by IFN-gamma was dependent on de novo protein synthesis since the enhancement was abolished by cycloheximide. Taken together, the data suggest that the metastatic ability of colon 26 cells pretreated with IFN-gamma is significantly higher due to the resistance to asialo GM1-positive cells accompanied with de novo protein synthesis.</p
Electron-muon correlation as a new probe to strongly interacting quark-gluon plasma
As a new and clean probe to the strongly interacting quark-gluon plasma
(sQGP), we propose an azimuthal correlation of an electron and a muon which
originate from the semileptonic decay of charm and bottom quarks. By solving
the Langevin equation for the heavy quarks under the hydrodynamic evolution of
the hot plasma, we show that substantial quenching of the away-side peak in the
electron-muon correlation can be seen if the sQGP drag force acting on heavy
quarks is large enough as suggested from the gauge/gravity correspondence. The
effect could be detected in high-energy heavy-ion collisions at the
Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider and the Large Hadron Collider.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
