Vietnam’s Accession to the World Trade Organization: Economic Projections to 2020

This study presents a set of assessments of the long term economic effects of Vietnam’s accession to the WTO. Generally speaking, our results indicate that Vietnam would benefit from accelerating its participation in more open multilateralism. However, it is also clear from our analysis that these benefits will remain modest in the absence of comprehensive and complementary domestic economic reforms. Passive external liberalization, even when coupled with determined domestic reform, is inferior to WTO participation combined with negotiated market access and other activist multilateral agreements. Finally, our analysis shows that capital insufficiency is a very serious constraint on Vietnamese economic growth and diversification. Capital market reform can play an essential role in dynamic and sustained economic development for the country.Vietnam, WTO, Trade

    Vitali's theorem without uniform boundedness

    Get PDF
Let {fm}m≥1 be a sequence of holomorphic functions defined on a bounded domain D ⊂ Cn or a sequence of rational functions (1 ≤ deg rm ≤ m) defined on Cn. We are interested infinding sufficient conditions to ensure the convergence of {fm}m≥1 on a large set provided the convergence holds pointwise on a not too small set. This type of result is inspired from a theorem of Vitali which gives a positive answer for uniformly bounded sequence

Synthesis and characterization of sialylated lactose- and lactulose-derived oligosaccharides by Trypanosoma cruzi trans-sialidase

Sialylated oligosaccharides contribute 12.6-21.9 % of total free oligosaccharides in human milk (hMOS). These acidic hMOS possess prebiotic properties and display anti-adhesive effects against pathogenic bacteria. Only limited amounts of sialylated hMOS are currently available. The aim of our work is to enzymatically synthesize sialylated oligosaccharides mimicking hMOS functionality. In this study we tested mixtures of glucosylated-lactose (GL34), galactosylated-lactulose (LGOS) and galacto-oligosaccharide (Vivinal GOS) molecules, as trans-sialylation acceptor substrates. The recombinant trans-sialidase enzyme from Trypanosoma cruzi (TcTS) was used for enzymatic decoration, transferring (α2→3)-linked sialic acid from donor substrates to the non-reducing terminal β-galactopyranosyl units of these acceptor substrates. The GL34 F2 2-glc-lac compound with an accessible terminal galactosyl residue was sialylated efficiently (conversion degree of 47.6 %). TcTS also sialylated at least five LGOS structures and eleven Vivinal GOS DP3-4 compounds. These newly synthesized sialylated oligosaccharides are interesting as potential hMOS-mimics for applications in biomedical and functional food products

Effect of Graphene-Gold Nanocomposites on the Photocatalytic Activity Of TiO2_2

The synthesis of graphene (Gr) - gold (Au) nanoparticle (NP) composite was achieved using continuous ultraviolet wave exposure. The functional groups were investigated with FT-IR spectra. From the Raman spectra, D-band and G-band of graphene were identified. As a result, the uniform deposition of nanometer-sized Au NPs on the graphene sheets was observed from the field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) images. The photodegradation of methylene blue in aqueous solutions is studied using various photocatalysts, including neat TiO2, Gr/TiO2 and Gr-Au/TiO2 composites. The Gr weight ratio in this research is 2%. The Gr2%-Au0.1%/TiO2 composite had the highest photoactivity

A STUDY ON THE LOCALIZED CORROSION INHIBITION FOR MILD STEEL IN SALINE SOLUTION

In this study, 0.45 mM yttrium 4-nitrocinnamate (Y(4NO2Cin)3) embedded in various aqueous chloride solutions, which has been studied as a possible localized corrosion inhibition system using electrochemical techniques and surface analysis. Furthermore, a wire-beam electrode (WBE) exposed to NaCl solutions containing Y(4NO2Cin)3 compound. The results indicated the possible application of a WBE in simulating and monitoring the localized corrosion inhibition. Moreover, Y(4NO2Cin)3 compound showed an excellent localized corrosion inhibition at 0.01 M due to high inhibition performance and good protective film formation. It also indicated that addition of 0.45 mM Y(4NO2Cin)3 compound increased the localized corrosion inhibition with a decrease of the Clˉ ion concentration in the investigated solutions. A new method of localized corrosion inhibition estimation has been developed using a WBE which shows a consistent result with electrochemical and surface analysis data. In addition, other electrochemical techniques and surface analysis are also used for not only ensuring but also confirming the localized corrosion inhibition.

On the Effectiveness of Adversarial Samples against Ensemble Learning-based Windows PE Malware Detectors

Recently, there has been a growing focus and interest in applying machine learning (ML) to the field of cybersecurity, particularly in malware detection and prevention. Several research works on malware analysis have been proposed, offering promising results for both academic and practical applications. In these works, the use of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) or Reinforcement Learning (RL) can aid malware creators in crafting metamorphic malware that evades antivirus software. In this study, we propose a mutation system to counteract ensemble learning-based detectors by combining GANs and an RL model, overcoming the limitations of the MalGAN model. Our proposed FeaGAN model is built based on MalGAN by incorporating an RL model called the Deep Q-network anti-malware Engines Attacking Framework (DQEAF). The RL model addresses three key challenges in performing adversarial attacks on Windows Portable Executable malware, including format preservation, executability preservation, and maliciousness preservation. In the FeaGAN model, ensemble learning is utilized to enhance the malware detector's evasion ability, with the generated adversarial patterns. The experimental results demonstrate that 100\% of the selected mutant samples preserve the format of executable files, while certain successes in both executability preservation and maliciousness preservation are achieved, reaching a stable success rate

PROVISION CAPACITY OF SERVICE DELIVERY FACILITIES FOR CHILDREN WITH HEARING LOSS IN HAI PHONG, VIETNAM

Objective: Hearing loss is a commonly occurring disability that affects 466 million people worldwide. This study aimed at determining the actual situations of early intervention delivery facilities for children with hearing loss. Out of this affected population, 7% are children (34 million) who, along with their families, grapple with the serious lifelong problems that accompany the disease. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with facilities investigated consisting of a school for the deaf, hospitals, an audiology center, and a social agency in Hai Phong province from January 2013 to December 2014. A sample composed of 353 children was also recruited. Results: The examined facilities suffer from shortcomings in provision capacity, which manifest in deficient materials, supplies and equipment, and human resources; the lack of interdisciplinary coordination of activities; inadequate community awareness; and the unaddressed need for early detection and intervention. The conditions of most of the children (98%) were detected by their families, and among those who were clinically diagnosed, the majority (76.8%) received such diagnosis at central hospitals. Hearing impairment among the children were detected, diagnosed, and subjected to intervention at a very late stage (on average, at ages 22.3, 34, and 32.5 months, respectively), thereby compelling up to 63.6% of the families to struggle with their children’s hearing loss. Conclusion: Solutions to current interventions are needed to enhance service delivery systems and guarantee early detection as well as timely and appropriate treatment
