Tariqa Shattariyya (TS) is a transnational spiritual flow that has become part of the Pariaman communityâs culture in Indonesia. This movement exists at all levels of the people, and is exemplivied in the Basapa ceremony, which is an example of spiritual tourism in the TS tradition. The Basapa ceremony has succeeded in engaging the local community and visitors in a range of spiritual activity performances. This study aims to evaluate Tariqa Shattariyya (TS) in Pariaman, Indonesia. A qualitative approach is used to explore, understand, and interpret the data obtained. The data collected were sourced from pilgrims, grave managers, traders, and local government. The results show that TS has attractive features, particularly the Basapa tradition, where various rituals are carried out, such as prayer and remembrance activities, which have different meaning for pilgrims. As a spiritual tourism activity, the tradition also affects the cultural development and community economic empowerment in the region
SUFISM AND ECONOMIC RESILIENCE: TRAJECTORY OF TAREKAT NAQSYABANDIYAH-KHALIDIYAH BABUSSALAM (TNKB)
This article provides updated information on the tarekat following the death of entrepreneurs in the Tarekat Naqsybandiyah-Khalidiyah Babussalam (TNKB). This study charts the TNKB trend regarding the spiritual institutionâs economic toughness. This research asks how TNKB will be able to continue operating if its founder no again walks away from entrepreneurs and what other economies may emerge in his place. Findings from the study show that the âdeathâ of TNKB entrepreneurs is strongly tied to the conflict of the leader, which is exacerbated by Tuan Guruâs need to concentrate on other issues. Uang salam originated as a substitute for a new economic source to preserve the TNKB. Uang salam is a practice that persists until it eventually makes room for commodification. Commodification is a tactic used by TNKB as part of its survival plan after entrepreneurs âdiedâ so that it can continue to exist and advance up to the present
SUFISM AND VIRTUAL PIETY: A Narration of the Millennial Murshid in North Sumatra
The millennial murshid comprises young tariqah leaders, who are well-versed in the latest information technology. Sufism identity has changed under the millennial murshid due to the development of information technology and their participation in social media which tries to revive the doctrine and ritual in the changing global reality. This condition has fostered Sufistic activism in a new direction from a âquiet roadâ to a âpublic roadâ in cyberspace. This article has explored the intersection between Sufism and social media based on the narration of the millennial murshid of Tariqa Naqshabandiyya-Khalidiya Serambi Babussalam. The findings illustrate that the phenomenon of virtual Sufism that has emerged from the intersection between Sufism and social media has given birth to a new expression of piety called as virtual piety. It is a simplification of piety from the original form of Sufistic tradition that emphasizes symbolic-esoteric aspects and is likely as opposed to individual piety. Additionally, the millennial murshid has successfully used social media, particularly Facebook, to reach out to the online community and gain followers

FROM RUâYAH AL-HILAL TO MALIEK BULAN: THE DETERMINATION OF RAMADAN IN THE TAREKAT SYATTARIYAH (TS)
This article presents ruâyah al-hilal as a marker for implementing Ramadan fasting among the Tarekat Syattariyah (TS). Ruâyah al-hilal is important for TS because it is one of the doctrines that must be implemented. The ruâyah al-hilal doctrine inspired the birth of the maliek bulan tradition, which is carried out openly every year by TS adherents and the general public. To understand the ruâyah al-hilal doctrine in TS, a research question is asked how the ruâyah al-hilal doctrine can become a maliek bulan tradition among TS. This study found that the doctrine of ruâyah al-hilal originates from the al-Qurâan and hadith, which speak of ruâyah al-hilal as the precursor of the beginning of Ramadan. However, this normative doctrine is still general. To understand the doctrine of ruâyah al-hilal, the TS group interprets it through the maliek bulan tradition, which is carried out every year to ensure the fasting time of Ramadan. The results of the maliek bulan will be conveyed to all TS networks in various regions in Indonesia to serve as a guideline for the start of the implementation of Ramadan fasting
