Smart Contracts for Sustainable Supply Chain Management: Conceptual Frameworks for Supply Chain Maturity Evaluation and Smart Contract Sustainability Assessment

    Get PDF
Current research on smart contracts focuses on technical, conceptual, and legal aspects but neglects organizational requirements and sustainability impacts. We consider this a significant research gap and explore the relationship between smart contracts and sustainability in supply chains. First, we define the concept of smart contracts in terms of supply chain management. Then, we conduct a content analysis of the literature to explore the overlapping research fields of smart contracts and sustainability in supply chains. Next, we develop a semi-structured assessment framework to model the potential environmental and social impacts induced by smart contracts on supply chains. We propose a conceptual framework for supply chain maturity by mapping the relationships between organizational development, sustainability, and technology. We identify smart contracts as a foundational technology that enables efficient and transparent governance and collaborative self-coordination of human and non-human actors. Thus, we argue that smart contracts can contribute to the economic and social development of networked value chains and Society 5.0. To stimulate interdisciplinary research on smart contracts, we conclude the article by formulating research propositions and trade-offs for smart contracts in the context of technology development, business process and supply chain management, and sustainability

Giant Vertebral Notochordal Rest: Magnetic Resonance and Diffusion Weighted Imaging Findings

    Get PDF
A giant vertebral notochordal rest is a newly described, benign entity that is easily confused with a vertebral chordoma. As microscopic notochordal rests are rarely found in adult autopsies, the finding of a macroscopic vertebral lesion is a new entity with only seven previously presented cases. We report here radiological findings, including diffusion weighted images, of a patient with a giant notochordal remnant confined to the L5 vertebra, with an emphasis on its distinction from a chordoma

Capitate and hamate fracture in a child: the value of MRI imaging

    Get PDF
Carpal bone fractures in children are rare, and little is known about the appropriate tools to diagnose them, particularly in toddlers. We present a 2-year-old child with a capitate and hamate fracture. Based on our experiences with this case and on a review of the literature, we discuss the value of magnetic resonance imaging in carpal trauma in children

The present research study is concerned with designing a mathematical model for production planning considering the different variables that were presented in a non-deterministic environment such as the logging sector of “Las Américas” in Sincelejo, Sucre. Problems related to productivity in the sector could be identified through mathematical modeling through production tools such as the MRP – Materials Requirements Plan and the MPS – Master Production Plan. It was established that, in the three microenterprises under study called “Artes y Diseños”, “Muebles Ian” and “Muebles La Bucaramanga” there was no MRP that would allow the adequate supply of inputs for the production of the marketed products, so proceeded to characterize the sector in general through a survey, followed by a time study taking into account the manufacturing processes to establish the different variables that influence the production process. Labor costs were analyzed, this information allowed the development of a mathematical production planning model encoded in an optimization software called General Algebraic Modeling System – GAMS. This tool allows companies in the productive part to generate the quantities of raw materials to purchase during the periods of time, the type of wood to use for each product and the quantity of products to be manufactured and in the financial part; calculate costs and profit. Through GAMS there is confidence that the results will be in accordance with what was proposed by the decision-makers since it considers relevant aspects of mathematical modeling and yields the most optimal solution possible. The utility obtained in the sector allows us to corroborate that what was said in relation to the tool used is in accordance with reality, delivering optimal results.
