Ultra-ductile and low friction epoxy matrix composites
We present the results of an effective reinforcement of epoxy resin matrix
with fullerene carbon soot. The optimal carbon soot addition of 1 wt. % results
in a toughness improvement of almost 20 times. The optimized soot-epoxy
composites also show an increase in tensile elongation of more than 13 %, thus
indicating a change of the failure mechanism in tension from brittle to
ductile. Additionally, the coefficient of friction is reduced from its 0.91
value in plain epoxy resin to 0.15 in the optimized composite. In the optimized
composite, the lateral forces during nanoscratching decrease as much as 80 %
with enhancement of the elastic modulus and hardness by 43 % and 94%,
respectively. The optimized epoxy resin fullerene soot composite can be a
strong candidate for coating applications where toughness, low friction,

Gene expression BackCLIP: a tool to identify common background presence in PAR-CLIP datasets
Abstract Motivation: PAR-CLIP, a CLIP-seq protocol, derives a transcriptome wide set of binding sites for RNA-binding proteins. Even though the protocol uses stringent washing to remove experimental noise, some of it remains. A recent study measured three sets of non-specific RNA backgrounds which are present in several PAR-CLIP datasets. However, a tool to identify the presence of common background in PAR-CLIP datasets is not yet available. Results: We used the measured sets of non-specific RNA backgrounds to build a common background set. Each element from the common background set has a score that reflects its presence in several PAR-CLIP datasets. We present a tool that uses this score to identify the amount of common backgrounds present in a PAR-CLIP dataset, and we provide the user the option to use or remove it. We used the proposed strategy in 30 PAR-CLIP datasets from nine proteins. It is possible to identify the presence of common backgrounds in a dataset and identify differences in datasets for the same protein. This method is the first step in the process of completely removing such backgrounds. Availability: The tool was implemented in python. Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS): A Review Study of Basic Aspects of the Corrosion Mechanism Applied to Steels
AC impedance measurements have been applied for over twenty years in electrochemistry and physics to investigate the electrical properties of conductive materials and their interfaces using an external electrical impulse (VOLTAGE, V or CURRENT, I) as driving force. Furthermore, its application has recently appeared to be destined in the Biotechnology field as an effective tool for rapid microbiologic diagnosis of living organism in situ. However, there is no doubt that the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is still one of the most useful techniques around the world for metal corrosion control and its monitoring. Corrosion has long been recognized as one of the most expensive stumbling blocks that concern many industries and government agencies, because it is a steel destructive phenomenon that occurs due to the chemical interaction with aqueous environments and takes place at the interface between metal and electrolyte producing an electrical charge transfer or ion diffusion process. Consequently, it is experimentally possible to determine through the EIS technique the mechanism and control that kinectics of corrosion reactions encounter. First, EIS data is collected through a potentiostat/
galvanostat apparatus. After, it is fitted to a mathematical model (i.e. an equivalent electrical circuit, EEC) for its interpretation and analysis, fundamentally seeking a meaningful physical interpretation. Finally, this review reports some basic aspects of the corrosion mechanism applied to steels through the experimental EIS response using Nyquist or Bode plots. Relativistic Compact Objects in Isotropic Coordinates
We present a matrix method for obtaining new classes of exact solutions for
Einstein's equations representing static perfect fluid spheres. By means of a
matrix transformation, we reduce Einstein's equations to two independent
Riccati type differential equations for which three classes of solutions are
obtained. One class of the solutions corresponding to the linear barotropic

Milk protein polymorphisms and casein haplotypes in Blanco Orejinegro cattle of Colombia
The aim was to determine the genetic variation in the CSN1S1, CSN2, CSN1S2, CSN3 and LGB genes in Blanco Orejinegro cattle. 419 animals from 15 herds were genotyped with GGP Bovine 150 K (n= 70) and 50 K (n= 349) chips. Information was obtained from 43 SNPs in the mentioned genes and protein variants *B, *C and *D of αS1-CN; *A1, *A2, *B, *H2 and *F of β-CN; *A and *D of αS2-CN, *A, *A1, *B, *I and *H of κ-CN and *A, *B, *C, *D, *E, *F and *H of β-LG were reconstructed. Allele and genotypic frequencies were estimated for SNPs and for protein variants; Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium and FST values were evaluated for each of the SNPs under different structuring criteria. LD values and haplotypic frequencies were estimated for caseins. The most frequent variants were CSN1S1*B (0.804), CSN2*A2 (0.509), CSN1S2*A (0.997), CSN3*A (0.679) and β-LG*B (0.657). None of the variants showed deviations from HWE, but the CSN2*A2 allele showed a slight increasing trend over time. The FST values were low (0.035) regardless of the structuring criteria. Twenty-eight CSN1S1-CSN2-CSN1S2-CSN3 haplotypes were found, 22 of them with frequencies <5%; the three most frequent were BB-A1A2-AA-AA-AA-AA (16.6%), BB-A1A2-AA-AA-AA-AB (14.1%) and BB-A2A2-AA-AA-AA (10.1%). A Bayesian Approach for Estimating the Thinning Corrosion Rate of Steel Heat Exchanger in Hydrodesulfurization Plants
Fuel consumption has been increasing in recent years, especially that of diesel and jet fuel. For this reason, the necessity to build new plants to reduce their sulfur content has arisen. Sometimes, just revamping existing plants is feasible, but determining which pieces of equipment are in the appropriate condition to be reused is also necessary. In order to select the equipment, it is essential to have information about the wall thickness of vessels. Sometimes, the information is limited; consequently, the application of advanced statistical techniques is needed. ,e Bayesian Data Analysis (BDA) used in this study has the goal of determining a more accurate, unobserved thinning rate distribution for existing heat exchangers, taking into consideration all the information available about the thinning rate of the heat exchangers that cool down the effluent of the hydrotreating reactors in Mexican oil refineries. ,e information obtained from BDA was compared with existing shell wall thickness obtaining favorable results
On the galactic rotation curves problem within an axisymmetric approach

Lett. 92 (2004) 051101 it has been shown that galactic potentials can be
kinematically linked to the observed red/blue shifts of the corresponding
galactic rotation curves under a minimal set of assumptions: the emitted
photons come from stable timelike circular geodesic orbits of stars in a static
spherically symmetric gravitational field, and propagate to us along null
geodesics. It is remarkable that this relation can be established without
appealing at all to a concrete theory of gravitational interaction. Here we
generalize this kinematical spherically symmetric approach to the galactic
rotation curves problem to the stationary axisymmetric realm since this is
precisely the symmetry that spiral galaxies possess. Thus, by making use of the
most general stationary axisymmetric metric, we also consider stable circular
orbits of stars that emit signals which travel to a distant observer along null
geodesics and express the galactic red/blue shifts in terms of three arbitrary
metric functions, clarifying the contribution of the rotation as well as the
dragging of the gravitational field. This stationary axisymmetric approach
distinguishes between red and blue shifts emitted by circularly orbiting
receding and approaching stars, respectively, even when they are considered
with respect to the center of a spiral galaxy, indicating the need of precise
measurements in order to confront predictions with observations. We also point
out the difficulties one encounters in the attempt of determining the metric

Vitamin B12, folate, and homocysteine in metabolic syndrome: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Background & aims: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is associated with life-threatening conditions. Several studies have reported an association of vitamin B12, folic acid, or homocysteine (Hcy) levels with MetS. This systematic review and meta-analysis assessed the association of vitamin B12, folic acid, and Hcy levels with MetS. Methods: PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Ovid/Medline, and Web of Science were searched up to February 13, 2023. Cross-sectional, case-control, or cohort studies were included. A random-effects model was performed using the DerSimonian and Laird method to estimate the between-study variance. Effect measures were expressed as odds ratios (OR) with their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% CI). Between-study heterogeneity was evaluated using Cochran’s Q test and the I2 statistic. Results: Sixty-six articles (n = 87,988 patients) were included. Higher vitamin B12 levels were inversely associated with MetS (OR = 0.87; 95% CI: 0.81–0.93; p < 0.01; I2 = 90%). Higher Hcy levels were associated with MetS (OR = 1.19; 95% CI: 1.14–1.24; p < 0.01; I2 = 90%). Folate levels were not associated with MetS (OR = 0.83; 95% CI: 0.66–1.03; p = 0.09; I2 = 90%). Conclusion: Higher vitamin B12 levels were inversely associated with MetS, whereas higher Hcy levels were associated with MetS. A rotating three component perfect fluid source and its junction with empty space-time
The Kerr solution for empty space-time is presented in an ellipsoidally
symmetric coordinate system and it is used to produce generalised ellipsoidal
metrics appropriate for the generation of rotating interior solutions of
Einstein's equations. It is shown that these solutions are the familiar static
perfect fluid cases commonly derived in curvature coordinates but now endowed
with rotation. The resulting solutions are also discussed in the context of
T-solutions of Einstein's equations and the vacuum T-solution outside a
rotating source is presented. The interior source for these solutions is shown
not to be a perfect fluid but rather an anisotropic three component perfect
fluid for which the energy momentum tensor is derived. The Schwarzschild
