    Limits on Hot Intracluster Gas Contributions to the Tenerife Temperature Anisotropy Map

    We limit the contribution of the hot intracluster gas, by means of the Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect, to the temperature anisotropies measured by the Tenerife experiment. The data is cross-correlated with maps generated from the ACO cluster catalogue, the ROSAT PSPC catalogue of clusters of galaxies, a catalogue of superclusters and the HEAO 1 A-1 map of X-ray sources. There is no evidence of contamination by such sources at an rms level of ∼8μ\sim 8\muK at 99% confidence level at 5o5^o angular resolution. We place an upper limit on the mean Comptonization parameter of y≤1.5×10−6 y \le 1.5\times 10^{-6} at the same level of confidence. These limits are slightly more restrictive than those previously found by a similar analysis on the COBE/DMR data and indicate that most of the signal measured by Tenerife is cosmological.Comment: To be published in ApJ (main journal

    Mixed action computations on fine dynamical lattices

    We report on our first experiences in simulating Neuberger valence fermions on CLS Nf=2N_f=2 configurations with light sea quark masses and small lattice spacings. Valence quark masses are considered that allow to explore the matching to (partially quenched) chiral perturbation theory both in the ϵ\epsilon- and pp-regimes.     Nonleptonic B→D(∗)DsJ(∗)B \to D^{(*)}D_{sJ}^{(*)} decays and the nature of the orbitally excited charmed-strange mesons

    The Belle Collaboration has recently reported a study of the decays B→Ds1(2536)+Dˉ(∗)B \to D_{s1}(2536)^{+}\bar{D}^{(\ast)} and has given also estimates of relevant ratios between branching fractions of decays B→D(∗)DsJ(∗)B \to D^{(\ast)}D_{sJ}^{(\ast)} providing important information to check the structure of the Ds0∗(2317)D_{s0}^{\ast}(2317), Ds1(2460)D_{s1}(2460) and Ds1(2536)D_{s1}(2536) mesons. The disagreement between experimental data and Heavy Quark Symmetry has been used as an indication that Ds0∗(2317)D_{s0}^{\ast}(2317) and Ds1(2460)D_{s1}(2460) mesons could have a more complex structure than the canonical csˉc\bar{s} one. We analyze these ratios within the framework of a constituent quark model, which allows us to incorporate the effects given by finite cc-quark mass corrections. Our findings are that while the Ds1(2460)D_{s1}(2460) meson could have a sizable non-qqˉq\bar{q} component, the Ds0∗(2317)D_{s0}^{\ast}(2317) and Ds1(2536)D_{s1}(2536) mesons seem to be well described by a pure qqˉq\bar{q} structure.Comment: 13 pages, 1 figur

    Fourier Mukai Transforms for Gorenstein Schemes

    We extend to singular schemes with Gorenstein singularities or fibered in schemes of that kind Bondal and Orlov's criterion for an integral functor to be fully faithful. We also contemplate a criterion for equivalence. We offer a proof that is new even if we restrict to the smooth case. In addition, we prove that for locally projective Gorenstein morphisms, a relative integral functor is fully faithful if and only if its restriction to each fibre also is it.     Mode stability in delta Scuti stars: linear analysis versus observations in open clusters

    A comparison between linear stability analysis and observations of pulsation modes in five delta Scuti stars, belonging to the same cluster, is presented. The study is based on the work by Michel et al. (1999), in which such a comparison was performed for a representative set of model solutions obtained independently for each individual star considered. In this paper we revisit the work by Michel et al. (1999) following, however, a new approach which consists in the search for a single, complete, and coherent solution for all the selected stars, in order to constrain and test the assumed physics describing these objects. To do so, refined descriptions for the effects of rotation on the determination of the global stellar parameters and on the adiabatic oscillation frequency computations are used. In addition, a crude attempt is made to study the role of rotation on the prediction of mode instabilities.The present results are found to be comparable with those reported by Michel et al. (1999). Within the temperature range log T_eff = 3.87-3.88 agreement between observations and model computations of unstable modes is restricted to values for the mixing-length parameter alpha_nl less or equal to 1.50. This indicates that for these stars a smaller value for alpha_nl is required than suggested from a calibrated solar model. We stress the point that the linear stability analysis used in this work still assumes stellar models without rotation and that further developments are required for a proper description of the interaction between rotation and pulsation dynamics.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, 3 tables.     Eimeria tenella protein trafficking: differential regulation of secretion versus surface tethering during the life cycle

    Eimeria spp. are intracellular parasites that have a major impact on poultry. Effective live vaccines are available and the development of reverse genetic technologies has raised the prospect of using Eimeria spp. as recombinant vectors to express additional immunoprotective antigens. To study the ability of Eimeria to secrete foreign antigens or display them on the surface of the sporozoite, transiently transfected populations of E. tenella expressing the fluorescent protein mCherry, linked to endogenous signal peptide (SP) and glycophosphatidylinositol-anchor (GPI) sequences, were examined. The SP from microneme protein EtMIC2 (SP2) allowed efficient trafficking of mCherry to cytoplasmic vesicles and following the C-terminal addition of a GPI-anchor (from surface antigen EtSAG1) mCherry was expressed on the sporozoite surface. In stable transgenic populations, mCherry fused to SP2 was secreted into the sporocyst cavity of the oocysts and after excystation, secretion was detected in culture supernatants but not into the parasitophorous vacuole after invasion. When the GPI was incorporated, mCherry was observed on the sporozites surface and in the supernatant of invading sporozoites. The proven secretion and surface exposure of mCherry suggests that antigen fusions with SP2 and GPI of EtSAG1 may be promising candidates to examine induction of protective immunity against heterologous pathogens

    A discrete linearizability test based on multiscale analysis

    In this paper we consider the classification of dispersive linearizable partial difference equations defined on a quad-graph by the multiple scale reduction around their harmonic solution. We show that the A1, A2 and A3 linearizability conditions restrain the number of the parameters which enter into the equation. A subclass of the equations which pass the A3 C-integrability conditions can be linearized by a Möbius transformation
