Using classifiers to predict linear feedback shift registers
Proceeding of: IEEE 35th International Carnahan Conference on Security Technology. October 16-19, 2001, LondonPreviously (J.C. Hernandez et al., 2000), some new ideas that justify the use of artificial intelligence techniques in cryptanalysis are presented. The main objective of that paper was to show that the theoretical next bit prediction problem can be transformed into a classification problem, and this classification problem could be solved with the aid of some AI algorithms. In particular, they showed how a well-known classifier called c4.5 could predict the next bit generated by a linear feedback shift register (LFSR, a widely used model of pseudorandom number generator) very efficiently and, most importantly, without any previous knowledge over the model used. The authors look for other classifiers, apart from c4.5, that could be useful in the prediction of LFSRs. We conclude that the selection of c4.5 by Hernandez et al. was adequate, because it shows the best accuracy of all the classifiers tested. However, we have found other classifiers that produce interesting results, and we suggest that these algorithms must be taken into account in the future when trying to predict more complex LFSR-based models. Finally, we show some other properties that make the c4.5 algorithm the best choice for this particular cryptanalytic problem.Publicad

Applying learning analytics to students’ interaction in business simulation games. The usefulness of learning analytics to know what students really learn
Nowadays, different ways of communication and interaction among multiple actors are dominating learning processes. However, there are critical opinions that question the contribution of student interaction to real learning. This study applies learning analytics and data mining techniques to explore the online discussion forums of 362 business students at the bachelor and master levels, who participated in business simulation games between 2011 and 2016. The findings revealed that the most frequent contents in the students’ online discussion forums were related, firstly, to the parameters and features of the business simulation game, and, secondly, to elements that fostered the students’ learning process, while small talk or regular conversation did not appear to be relevant. In addition, the contents with predictive power over learning results were related to uncertainty, time, interaction, communication and collaboration, although none of these elements influenced teacher assessment of student learning. EL ENFOQUE PROFESIONAL PEDAGÓGICO AL ENSEÑAR LA QUÍMICA EN LAS ESCUELAS PEDAGÓGICAS
Las transformaciones realizadas en la formación de los profesionales de la educación en Cuba en los últimos cursos retomaron la experiencia de la formación inicial de maestros primarios del nivel medio superior. Al respecto se reconoce como una exigencia para elevar la calidad del proceso educativo de las escuelas del nivel primario el asegurar el dominio de las diferentes asignaturas que conforman el plan de estudio de los futuros maestros. La necesidad de sistematizar de manera más intencionada la orientación y la motivación por la carrera de Educación Primaria de los estudiantes desde las asignaturas de corte general reconocen en el enfoque profesional pedagógico una herramienta de utilidad al concebir el proceso de enseñanza – aprendizaje de la asignatura Química en las escuelas pedagógicas. Propuesta metodológica de una clase en educación en el trabajo / A methodological proposal for a lecture about "Education in Work"
La contradicción fundamental, en el objeto de la Didáctica se presenta entre las exigencias que la sociedad plantea en la enseñanza y el nivel alcanzado por los estudiantes en un momento dado durante su aprendizaje. La solución de esta contradicción es el motor impulsor de este proceso. En aras de contribuir con él, nuestro objetivo fue mostrar una propuesta metodológica de una clase en educación en el trabajo en la formación del Especialista en Estomatología General Integral. En el contenido del programa analítico, están bien establecidos los objetivos por año académico y por módulos, no así por temas. Para elaborar el objetivo temático se tuvo en cuenta su función: lograr transformaciones graduales en los sistemas de conocimientos y habilidades de los residentes, así como en sus actitudes, convicciones, sentimientos, ideales y valores. Se prestó gran atención a los métodos problémicos, así como al método clínico en su dimensión didáctica. Este enfoque favorece el paradigma educacional actual de aprender a aprender y de aprender haciendo bajo la conducción del que enseña. Se elaboró un sistema de tareas docentes. Esta tarea constituye un modo de concretar el objeto de estudio. Estimula independencia cognoscitiva, individualidad creadora, integridad, carácter consciente y activo. Se concluye que el asumir esta premisa aumentó la responsabilidad del profesor en cuanto a pensar en términos de objetivo, de manera tal que permita al residente ir más allá de un mero aprender de asociaciones, a un generar de ideas propias. ABSTRACT The main contradiction in the object of Didactics is between the demands the society establishes in learning and the level students achieve at a given moment along the teaching-learning process. The solution for this contradiction is the motivation of this process. For the purpose of contributing to this process, a methodological proposal for a lecture about " Education in Work " was created to form Comprehensive Specialists in Dentistry. In the content of this analytic syllabus the objectives are properly set up per academic years and modules, but not per themes. The thematic objective was created taking into account its function: to achieve gradual transformations in the systems of knowledge and skills in residents; as well as in the attitudes, convictions, feelings, ideas and values. Problematic methods were carefully observed and a clinical method was analyzed from a didactic point of view. This approach favours current educational paradigm - learning to learn and learning doing - under the guide of whoever teaches. A system of teaching tasks was prepared. These tasks constitute a way to pinpoint the object of study. It motivates cognitive independence, a creative individual, integrity, active and conscious character. Concluding that, when this approach was adopted, professor's responsibility towards thinking of objective terms increased, allowing this way , that the residents in the specialty go beyond learning through associations to create own ideas. #CoronavirusCruise: Impact and implications of the COVID-19 outbreaks on the perception of cruise tourism
Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, the Diamond Princess became the center of the largest outbreak outside the original epicenter in China. This outbreak which left 712 passengers infected and 14 dead, followed by subsequent outbreaks affecting over one-third of the active ships in the cruise industry's global fleet, quickly became a crisis that captured public attention and dominated mainstream news and social media. This study investigates the perception of cruising during these outbreaks by analyzing the tweets on cruising using Natural Language Processing (NLP). The findings show a prevalent negative sentiment in most of the analyzed tweets, while the criticisms directed at the cruise industry were based on perceptions and stereotypes of the industry before the pandemic. The study provides insight into the concerns raised in these conversations and highlights the need for new business models outside the pre-pandemic mass-market model and to genuinely make cruising more environmentally friendly.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
