IMPROVING ENGLISH SPEAKING ABILITY THROUGH HYPNOCATIVE SPEECH METHOD

The objective of this research is to identify the improvement of students’ English speaking ability through hypnocative speech. The research was conducted at Mantika Language Center. This action research was carried out in two cycles in which each cycle consists of four phases of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Here, the researcher guided the instructor as students’ collaborators in implementing hypnocative speech method to improve students’ English speaking ability. The data collection techniques used were observation, questionnaire, test, teacher's diary, observer’s daily journal, interviews, and audiotape recordings. The data consist of collected accent, grammar, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. The data have been collected through a critical comparative analysis technique by combining and simultaneously comparing the result of the first cycle until the last cycle. As result, it was found that implementing hypnocative speech in the teaching and learning process can improve students’attitudes and the outcome of their speaking ability. Here, the students can communicate fluently, do not feel afraid, and have more courage to speak the language communicatively, harmoniously, and correctly. Precisely, the implementation of hypnocative speech method can increase students’ speaking ability, at least 30.31.Keywords: action research; speaking ability; hypnocative speech

SOCIAL CRITICISM IN 2019 GANTI PRESIDEN LYRICS: A CRITICAL DISCOURSE ANALYSIS

This study aimed to determine the dimension of text. The use of vocabulary and grammar is not independent, there are micro, meso, and macro context that connect to the text in which makes certain practices and objectives a writer. This research aimed to clarify the meaning of the social criticism lyrics “2019 Ganti Presiden†and struggle for social values. This research used qualitative approach by analysis of discourse methods and critical paradigms. The result showed that social criticism of the song “2019 Ganti Presiden†represented awarness and an invitation to unlimited solidarity to learn about humanity, justice, help the lower classes such as laborers and hawkers. The lyrics of “2019 Ganti Presiden†also represented marginalization and personal opinion. “2019 Ganti Presidenâ€Â  was produced in 2018 according to the typical situation of Indonesia that regarding the economy, political conditions in Indonesia which resulted in unemployment and corruption. GOOGLE TRANSLATE AS AN ALTERNATIVE TOOL FOR ASSISTING STUDENTS IN DOING TRANSLATION : A CASE STUDY AT UNIVERSITAS NEGERI JAKARTA, INDONESIA

Abstract The paper examines the use of Google Translate as an Alternative tool for assisting students at Universitas Negeri Jakarta, Indonesia to translate and develop their knowledge and skills in doing Translation. The participants of the study were 36 students at the Applied Linguistic of Doctoral Program at Universitas Negeri Jakarta who had registered of the year 2017. Based on literature  review, analysis of the collecting data, and an assessment of the course content and activities inside and outside the learning process, the findings suggest that most Applied Linguistic of Doctoral Program students at Universitas Negeri Jakarta recognize Google Translate as  an Alternative tool for doing references book translation. In fact, some students reported that they could optimally ,benefit from self-learning if they were assisted to use Google Translate effectively. Moreover, using Google Translate for doing classroom tasks and reference books translation encourage students to study independently, and to shape their own strategies for solving language problem.
