Geophysical surveying in Egypt: periodical report for 2021–2022
A magnetic survey of an Old Kingdom necropolis at Abusir near Saqqara yielded data for a reliable reconstruction of its layout. Water management in the hinterland of the Late Antique and Byzantine city at the site of Marea in northern Egypt could be reconstructed based on the results of a magnetic survey. The resistivity method was applied to record stone structures situated below the ground water table at the site of Heliopolis in Cair
The project of segetal weed's protection
The intensification of agriculture has led to a distinct
regress of segetal weeds, particu larly of the specialized ones.
The necessity to preserve a gene pool of th is group of the
species results from scientific and didactic premises as well
as from practical ones. The author suggests to form a network
of reserves for segetal communities on the fields of agriculture
experimental stations, in the protective zones of national
parks and reserves, in nature parks, and finally, in
open-air museums.Zadanie pt. Digitalizacja i udostępnienie w Cyfrowym Repozytorium Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego kolekcji czasopism naukowych wydawanych przez Uniwersytet Łódzki nr 885/P-DUN/2014 zostało dofinansowane ze środków MNiSW w ramach działalności upowszechniającej naukę
The conservation of genetic resources and the succession of vegetation in reserves and national parks
An unexpected and uncontrollable succession of vegetation
in national parks and reserves causes the impoverishment
of a gene pool of plants. This process has been observed
mainly in seminatural communities and distorted natural
phytocoenoses. A programme of practical endeavours should
be based on a conscious management of the succession. It
has to take into account the entire caryologic, ecological
and sociologic variability of each species as well as to lean
on a thorough study of a degree of naturalness and dynamics
of the communities in which the species exist.Zadanie pt. The possibilities of development of the inland waterways in east-central Europe as a part of the general network of trans-European navigable waterways
A scheme for the development of inland waterways in East-
-Central Europe, which also should ensure the maximum utilizataft
of the vast available water power resources must be preceded
by a description of the geographic situation and an analysis
of existing needs and methods in individual countries. Therefore in presentating my thesis, in which I have endeavoured
to produce a comprehensive scheme for improving the existing
natural waterways and uniting the river basins by connecting
canals (Vol. 2 ) , I first examine the present utilization and
development of water resources in the countries of East- Central
Europe (Vol. 1 ).This thesis is based upon a translation of the essential
parts of my full report, written in Polish.I have been asked by the Polish Authorities to make this
report for the following reasons:-(a) a.s a consequence of the great destruction of Polish libraries
is it desirable to collect information for the use of Polish
engineers regarding recent development and methods of construction in civil engineering;(b)to investigate the existing conditions of the navigable
waterways in East -Central European Countries and to suggest
methods by which they might be improved and interconnected
to form an international network;(c)to examine the problem of navigation with a view to making
the maximum use of the water -power available for the con - straction of hydro -electric stations in this area. This report will be used as a basis for discussion between
the Allied countries that are concerned. Some initial progress
has already been made in this direction and daring the past
year I have been invited to take part in discussions on the
subject with various Allied associations and committees and
with British Firms interested in future developments
