Uranium Resource Evaluation Presidio Quadrangle Texas
The uranium potential of the 1° by 2° Presidio Quadrangle, Texas, was evaluated using criteria devised for the National Uranium Resource Evaluation program. Surface and subsurface studies (to a 5,000 ft; 1500 m depth) were employed, along with chemical, petrologic, hydrogeochemical, and airborne radiometric data (5-mi; 8-km spacing). The entire quadrangle is in the Basin and Range Province and is characterized by Tertiary silicic volcanic rocks (caldera and outflow facies) and tuffaceous sediments, which overlie chiefly Cretaceous carbonate rocks. Presidio Bolson, a large basin filled mostly with detritus from the Chinati Caldera Complex, occupies the southwestern third of the quadrangle bordering the Rio Grande.
Favorable environments include the Allen Intrusions, a group of rhyolite domes that contain authigenic (Class 360) type deposits, and Cienega Mountain, a homogeneous riebeckite (peralkaline) rhyolite intrusion that could contain subeconomic or magmatic (Class 310) type deposits. Bolson fill exhibits several characteristics that suggest it could be favorable; however, insufficient information is available for complete evaluation, so it is classed as unevaluated. Friends of Hot Jupiters II: No Correspondence Between Hot-Jupiter Spin-Orbit Misalignment and the Incidence of Directly Imaged Stellar Companions
Multi-star systems are common, yet little is known about a stellar
companion's influence on the formation and evolution of planetary systems. For
instance, stellar companions may have facilitated the inward migration of hot
Jupiters towards to their present day positions. Many observed short period gas
giant planets also have orbits that are misaligned with respect to their star's
spin axis, which has also been attributed to the presence of a massive outer
companion on a non-coplanar orbit. We present the results of a multi-band
direct imaging survey using Keck NIRC2 to measure the fraction of short period
gas giant planets found in multi-star systems. Over three years, we completed a
survey of 50 targets ("Friends of Hot Jupiters") with 27 targets showing some
signature of multi-body interaction (misaligned or eccentric orbits) and 23
targets in a control sample (well-aligned and circular orbits). We report the
masses, projected separations, and confirmed common proper motion for the 19
stellar companions found around 17 stars. Correcting for survey incompleteness,
we report companion fractions of , , and
in our total, misaligned/eccentric, and control samples, respectively. This
total stellar companion fraction is larger than the fraction of
field stars with companions approximately AU. We observe no
correlation between misaligned/eccentric hot Jupiter systems and the incidence
of stellar companions. Combining this result with our previous radial velocity
survey, we determine that of hot Jupiters are part of

In What Ways Are Deep Neural Networks Invariant and How Should We Measure This?
It is often said that a deep learning model is "invariant" to some specific
type of transformation. However, what is meant by this statement strongly
depends on the context in which it is made. In this paper we explore the nature
of invariance and equivariance of deep learning models with the goal of better
understanding the ways in which they actually capture these concepts on a
formal level. We introduce a family of invariance and equivariance metrics that
allows us to quantify these properties in a way that disentangles them from
other metrics such as loss or accuracy. We use our metrics to better understand
the two most popular methods used to build invariance into networks: data
augmentation and equivariant layers. We draw a range of conclusions about
invariance and equivariance in deep learning models, ranging from whether
initializing a model with pretrained weights has an effect on a trained model's
invariance, to the extent to which invariance learned via training can

Geology and geochronology of the Tana Basin, Ethiopia : LIP volcanism, super eruptions and Eocene-Oligocene environmental change
This work was supported by NERC Grants NE/D012996/1 and NER/B/S/2002/00540 and NIGFSC IP/1024/0508.New geological and geochronological data define four episodes of volcanism for the Lake Tana region in the northern Ethiopian portion of the Afro–Arabian Large Igneous Province (LIP): pre-31 Ma flood basalt that yielded a single 40Ar/39Ar age of 34.05 ± 0.54/0.56 Ma; thick and extensive felsic ignimbrites and rhyolites (minimum volume of 2-3 x 103km3) erupted between 31.108 ± 0.020/0.041 Ma and 30.844 ± 0.027/0.046 Ma (U–Pb CA-ID-TIMS zircon ages); mafic volcanism bracketed by 40Ar/39Ar ages of 28.90 ± 0.12/0.14 Ma and 23.75 ± 0.02/0.04 Ma; and localised scoraceous basalt with an 40Ar/39Ar age of 0.033 ± 0.005/0.005 Ma. The felsic volcanism was the product of super eruptions that created a 60–80 km diameter caldera marked by km-scale caldera-collapse fault blocks and a steep-sided basin filled with a minimum of 180 m of sediment and the present-day Lake Tana. These new data enable mapping, with a finer resolution than previously possible, Afro–Arabian LIP volcanism onto the timeline of the Eocene–Oligocene transition and show that neither the mafic nor silicic volcanism coincides directly with perturbations in the geochemical records that span that transition. Circulating Biomarkers to Identify Responders in Cardiac Cell therapy.
Bone marrow mononuclear cell (BM-MNC) therapy in ST-elevation acute myocardial infarction (STEMI) has no biological inclusion criteria. Here, we analyzed 63 biomarkers and cytokines in baseline plasma samples from 77 STEMI patients treated with BM-MNCs in the TIME and Late-TIME trials as well as 61 STEMI patients treated with placebo. Response to cell therapy was defined by changes in left ventricular ejection fraction, systolic/diastolic volumes, and wall motion indexes. We investigated the clinical value of circulating proteins in outcome prediction using significance testing, partial least squares discriminant analysis, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. Responders had higher biomarker levels (76-94% elevated) than non-responders. Several biomarkers had values that differed significantly (P < 0.05) between responders and non-responders including stem cell factor, platelet-derived growth factor, and interleukin-15. We then used these lead candidates for ROC analysis and found multiple biomarkers with values areas under the curve >0.70 including interleukin 15. These biomarkers were not involved in the placebo-treated subjects suggesting that they may have predictive power. We conclude that plasma profiling after STEMI may help identify patients with a greater likelihood of response to cell-based treatment. Effects of a Community Population Health Initiative on Blood Pressure Control in Latinos.
Background Hypertension remains one of the most important, modifiable cardiovascular risk factors. Yet, the largest minority ethnic group (Hispanics/Latinos) often have different health outcomes and behavior, making hypertension management more difficult. We explored the effects of an American Heart Association-sponsored population health intervention aimed at modifying behavior of Latinos living in Texas. Methods and Results We enrolled 8071 patients, and 5714 (65.7%) completed the 90-day program (58.5 years ±11.7; 59% female) from July 2016 to June 2018. Navigators identified patients with risk factors; initial and final blood pressure ( BP ) readings were performed in the physician\u27s office; and interim home measurements were recorded telephonically. The intervention incorporated home BP monitoring, fitness and nutritional counseling, and regular follow-up. Primary outcomes were change in systolic BP and health-related quality of life.
