New ADS Functionality for the Curator
In this paper we provide an update concerning the operations of the NASA
Astrophysics Data System (ADS), its services and user interface, and the
content currently indexed in its database. As the primary information system
used by researchers in Astronomy, the ADS aims to provide a comprehensive index
of all scholarly resources appearing in the literature. With the current effort
in our community to support data and software citations, we discuss what steps
the ADS is taking to provide the needed infrastructure in collaboration with
publishers and data providers. A new API provides access to the ADS search
interface, metrics, and libraries allowing users to programmatically automate
discovery and curation tasks. The new ADS interface supports a greater
integration of content and services with a variety of partners, including ORCID
claiming, indexing of SIMBAD objects, and article graphics from a variety of
publishers. Finally, we highlight how librarians can facilitate the ingest of
gray literature that they curate into our system.Comment: Submitted to the Proceedings of Library and Information Services in

Finite Element Convergence for the Joule Heating Problem with Mixed Boundary Conditions
We prove strong convergence of conforming finite element approximations to
the stationary Joule heating problem with mixed boundary conditions on
Lipschitz domains in three spatial dimensions. We show optimal global
regularity estimates on creased domains and prove a priori and a posteriori
bounds for shape regular meshes.Comment: Keywords: Joule heating problem, thermistors, a posteriori error

The future of isosorbide as a fundamental constituent for polycarbonates and polyurethanes
Isosorbide is a biobased compound which could become in the near future an advantageous competitor of petroleum-derived components in the synthesis of polymers of different nature. When the reactivity of isosorbide is not enough, it can be successfully transformed into secondary building blocks, such as isosorbide bis(methyl carbonate), which provides extra functionalities for polymerization reactions with diols or diamines. The present review summarizes the possibilities for isosorbide as a green raw material to be used in the synthesis of polycarbonates and polyurethanes to obtain products of similar or enhanced properties to the commercial equivalents. This paper is a part of the research carried out within the VIPRISCAR project which has received funding from the Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking (JU) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 790440. Indicators for the Data Usage Index (DUI): an incentive for publishing primary biodiversity data through global information infrastructure

Abstract

Background

A professional recognition mechanism is required to encourage expedited publishing of an adequate volume of 'fit-for-use' biodiversity data. As a component of such a recognition mechanism, we propose the development of the Data Usage Index (DUI) to demonstrate to data publishers that their efforts of creating biodiversity datasets have impact by being accessed and used by a wide spectrum of user communities.

Discussion

We propose and give examples of a range of 14 absolute and normalized biodiversity dataset usage indicators for the development of a DUI based on search events and dataset download instances. The DUI is proposed to include relative as well as species profile weighted comparative indicators.

Conclusions

We believe that in addition to the recognition to the data publisher and all players involved in the data life cycle, a DUI will also provide much needed yet novel insight into how users use primary biodiversity data. A DUI consisting of a range of usage indicators obtained from the GBIF network and other relevant access points is within reach. The usage of biodiversity datasets leads to the development of a family of indicators in line with well known citation-based measurements of recognition.</p
Correlation of Group C Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccine Response with B- and T-Lymphocyte Activity
Despite the success of conjugate vaccination against meningococcal group C (MenC) disease, post-vaccination, some individuals still exhibit rapid waning of initially protective bactericidal antibody levels. The mechanism of this relative loss of humoral protection remains undetermined. In this report we have investigated the relationship between T- and B-cell activation and co-stimulation and the loss of protective antibody titers. We have found that healthy volunteers who lose protective MenC antibody levels one year after receipt of glycoconjugate vaccine exhibit no detectable cellular defect in polyclonal B- or T-cell activation, proliferation or the B-memory pool. This suggests that the processes underlying the more rapid loss of antibody levels are independent of defects in either initial T- or B-cell activation
