Social media are popular among adolescents worldwide, including the global South. The way adolescents use social media is influenced by their own perception of social media but also by how their parents use and perceive social media. This study aims to understand how Indonesian young adolescents (12–15 years old) and parents of adolescents use and perceive social media. For this purpose, we conducted eight focus group discussions and eight semi-structured interviews with 30 Indonesian adolescents and 15 Indonesian parents. Thematic analysis of the qualitative data reveals that both adolescents and parents use social media for social, practical, and pleasure activities. Most adolescents mention that they consider themselves skilled in using social media, while parents consider themselves less skilled. Both adolescents and parents mention that social media offer benefits for adolescents, including emotional, social, and practical benefits. However, adolescents and parents also mention the risks of social media use for adolescents, including social, emotional, and informational risks, as well as the displacement of more meaningful activities. As such, both adolescents and parents do not perceive social media as inherently good or bad but rather as a novel medium that offers benefits for adolescents but also involves several risks to be considered by parents and other relevant stakeholders. This study adds to our understanding of social media use in the global South and offers a theoretical basis for future studies on the impact of adolescents’ social media usage on wellbeing in an Indonesian context. However, future research is necessary to depict possible differences in social media use between Indonesia and other countries in the global South

Over the years, growing attention has been given to the phenomenon of trafficking in human beings (THB). Sexual exploitation was until recently by far the most commonly identified feature of THB, followed by forced labour. Many activities to combat trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation have been initiated by numerous supranational, international as well as national organizations. Much is written about these initiatives, but some areas have been neglected. Knowledge on ‘what works’ is in particular limited. The growing attention to THB entails a demand for more information. The severity of the crime and the impact on its victims makes it of utmost importance to gain more insight into the working and effectiveness of anti-trafficking strategies and interventions. The main objective of this review was to assess the presently available evidence on the effects of interventions that aim to prevent and suppress trafficking in human beings

A proper guidance during kindergarten years is required to optimize the development of children’s emotional competence. Emotion coaching is one way to foster children’s emotional growth that will result in emotional competence and better academic achievement. In school settings, teachers will be the caregiver with important role in ensuring children’s socio-emotional development. Yet, little is known on how teachers play the role. This research aims to describe the emotion coaching done by preschool teachers in Jakarta. Gottman’s emotion coaching framework is utilized in the study. Qualitative approach with explorative aim is adopted in this study. Data gathering technique used in this study is individual interview using story vignettes with three female and two male teachers. All participants were chosen to represent gender and school’s status variation. Result of the study shows that participants have done five steps of emotion coaching, but needs optimization on the third and fourth steps. There are issues most notably on the use of vocabulary to label emotion and emotion validation. Lack of knowledge on how to do emotion coaching in the latter steps and teachers’ perception of proper expression of emotions might be the cause of these results. Further elaboration on the topic and exploration in regard to cultural issues are suggested. Keywords: emotion coaching, preschool teachers, emotion, early childhoo

Ethanol and water extraet of Andrographis paniculata Nees, and ethanol extract of Eugenia polyantba Wight leaves were evaluated for their hypoglycemic effects in healthyalbino Wistar rats by oral glucose tolerance test. Both ethanol extract of Euginta polyantba (200 mg/kg bw) and water extract of Andrographis paniculata (200 mglkg bw) showed significant increased of blood glucose level at T30 and T60 (T30" 30 minutes after glucose loading or 60 minutes after drugs administration, T60 '" 60 minutes after glucose loading or 90 minutes after drugs administration). Meanwhile, ethanol extraet of Andrographis paniculata (200 mglkg bw) showed significant increased in blood glucose level up to T90. Therefore, water extract of Andrographis paniculata (200 mg/kg bb) was considered faster to lower blood glucose level than the ethanol extraet at the same dose of administration. Furthermore, water extract of Andrographis paniculata and Eugirua polyantba leaves could be selected for further research as they reduce the blood glucose level steadily and does not cause hypoglycemia such as in glibenclamide
