Psi-series solutions of the cubic H\'{e}non-Heiles system and their convergence
The cubic H\'enon-Heiles system contains parameters, for most values of
which, the system is not integrable. In such parameter regimes, the general
solution is expressible in formal expansions about arbitrary movable branch
points, the so-called psi-series expansions. In this paper, the convergence of
known, as well as new, psi-series solutions on real time intervals is proved,
thereby establishing that the formal solutions are actual solutions
Effect of cation size variance on spin and orbital order in Eu(LaY)VO
We have investigated the -ion ( = rare earth or Y) size variance effect
on spin/orbital order in Eu(LaY)VO. The
size variance disturbs one-dimensional orbital correlation in -type
spin/-type orbital ordered states and suppresses this spin/orbital order. In
contrast, it stabilizes the other spin/orbital order. The results of neutron
and resonant X-ray scattering denote that in the other ordered phase, the
spin/orbital patterns are -type/-type, respectively.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, accepted to Rapid Communication in Physical

The relationship between chaotic behavior and tunneling effect in quantum transport devices(1)Current topics of quantum chaos in nanosciences, Chaos and Nonlinear Dynamics in Quantum-Mechanical and Macroscopic Systems)
We have studied transport properties in the low-temperature magnetoresistance through the ballistic narrow path restricted by short width metallic gates, which cause a quantum point contact(QPC) which have a saddle point potential, on the 2 dimensional electron gas(2DEG) system. An alternate and systematic variation between a Lorentzian line fitting and a cusplike line fitting in the zero-field peaks has been observed, as sweeping the gate voltage. It indicates a possibility of existence of chaotic and regular paths on the short gated ballistic/tunneling transport. We will discuss on the quantum chaos behavior on the systematic variation between the Lorentzian and the cusp-like peakshape based on the disordered path system under the short gate, and suggest a relation with level repulsion of energy spectrum
MicroRNA-155 is induced during the macrophage inflammatory response
The mammalian inflammatory response to infection involves the induction of several hundred genes, a process that must be carefully regulated to achieve pathogen clearance and prevent the consequences of unregulated expression, such as cancer. Recently, microRNAs (miRNAs) have emerged as a class of gene expression regulators that has also been linked to cancer. However, the relationship between inflammation, innate immunity, and miRNA expression is just beginning to be explored. In the present study, we use microarray technology to identify miRNAs induced in primary murine macrophages after exposure to polyriboinosinic:polyribocytidylic acid or the cytokine IFN-{beta}. miR-155 was the only miRNA of those tested that was substantially up-regulated by both stimuli. It also was induced by several Toll-like receptor ligands through myeloid differentiation factor 88- or TRIF-dependent pathways, whereas up-regulation by IFNs was shown to involve TNF-{alpha} autocrine signaling. Pharmacological inhibition of the kinase JNK blocked induction of miR-155 in response to either polyriboinosinic:polyribocytidylic acid or TNF-{alpha}, suggesting that miR-155-inducing signals use the JNK pathway. Together, these findings characterize miR-155 as a common target of a broad range of inflammatory mediators. Importantly, because miR-155 is known to function as an oncogene, these observations identify a potential link between inflammation and cancer
Validation of the High Performance Conduction-Cooled Prototype LTS Pulse Coil for UPS-SMES
A conduction-cooled low temperature superconducting (LTS) pulse coil has been developed as a key technology for UPS-SMES. We have been developing a 1 MW, 1 s UPS-SMES for a protection from a momentary voltage drop and an instant power failure. A conduction-cooled LTS pulse coil has excellent characteristics, which are adequate for a short-time uninterruptible power supply (UPS). The LTS coil has better cost performance over the HTS coil at present and the conduction cooling has higher reliability and easier operation than the conventional cooling schemes such as pool boiling with liquid helium or forced flow of supercritical helium. To demonstrate the high performances of the LTS pulse coil, we have fabricated a prototype coil with stored energy of 100 kJ and have conducted cooling and excitation tests. The successful performance test results including current shut-off test with a time constant of 1.3 s and repeated excitation of a triangular waveform with high ramp rate are reporte
Pion photoproduction on the nucleon in the quark model
We present a detailed quark-model study of pion photoproduction within the
effective Lagrangian approach. Cross sections and single-polarization
observables are investigated for the four charge channels, , , , and .
Leaving the coupling strength to be a free parameter, we obtain a
reasonably consistent description of these four channels from threshold to the
first resonance region. Within this effective Lagrangian approach, strongly
constrainted by the quark model, we consider the issue of double-counting which
may occur if additional {\it t}-channel contributions are included.Comment: Revtex, 35 pages, 16 eps figures; version to appear on PR
Measurement of tau polarization in e+ e- annihilation at sqrt{s}=58 GeV
The polarization of tau leptons in the reaction e+ e- --> tau+ tau- has been
measured using a e+e- collider, TRISTAN, at the center-of-mass energy of 58
GeV. From the kinematical distributions of daughter particles in tau --> e nu
nu-bar, mu nu nu-bar, rho nu or pi(K) nu decays, the average polarization of
tau- and its forward-backward asymmetry have been evaluated to be 0.012 +-
0.058 and 0.029 +- 0.057, respectively.Comment: 18 pages, 5 figure

Ribose 2′-O-methylation provides a molecular signature for the distinction of self and non-self mRNA dependent on the RNA sensor Mda5
The 5'-cap-structures of higher eukaryote mRNAs are ribose 2'-O-methylated. Likewise, a number of viruses replicating in the cytoplasm of eukayotes have evolved 2'-O-methyltransferases to modify autonomously their mRNAs. However, a defined biological role of mRNA 2'-O-methylation remains elusive. Here we show that viral mRNA 2'-O-methylation is critically involved in subversion of type-I-interferon (IFN-I) induction. We demonstrate that human and murine coronavirus 2'-O-methyltransferase mutants induce increased IFN-I expression, and are highly IFN-I sensitive. Importantly, IFN-I induction by 2'-O-methyltransferase-deficient viruses is dependent on the cytoplasmic RNA sensor melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 (MDA5). This link between MDA5-mediated sensing of viral RNA and mRNA 2'-O-methylation suggests that RNA modifications, such as 2'-O-methylation, provide a molecular signature for the discrimination of self and non-self mRNA
