Morphological plasticity of astroglia: Understanding synaptic microenvironment

Memory formation in the brain is thought to rely on the remodeling of synaptic connections which eventually results in neural network rewiring. This remodeling is likely to involve ultrathin astroglial protrusions which often occur in the immediate vicinity of excitatory synapses. The phenomenology, cellular mechanisms, and causal relationships of such astroglial restructuring remain, however, poorly understood. This is in large part because monitoring and probing of the underpinning molecular machinery on the scale of nanoscopic astroglial compartments remains a challenge. Here we briefly summarize the current knowledge regarding the cellular organisation of astroglia in the synaptic microenvironment and discuss molecular mechanisms potentially involved in use-dependent astroglial morphogenesis. We also discuss recent observations concerning morphological astroglial plasticity, the respective monitoring methods, and some of the newly emerging techniques that might help with conceptual advances in the area. The Nanoworld of the Tripartite Synapse: Insights from Super-Resolution Microscopy

Synaptic connections between individual nerve cells are fundamental to the process of information transfer and storage in the brain. Over the past decades a third key partner of the synaptic machinery has been unveiled: ultrathin processes of electrically passive astroglia which often surround pre- and postsynaptic structures. The recent advent of super-resolution (SR) microscopy has begun to uncover the dynamic nanoworld of synapses and their astroglial environment. Here we overview and discuss the current progress in our understanding of the synaptic nanoenvironment, as gleaned from the imaging methods that go beyond the diffraction limit of conventional light microscopy. We argue that such methods are essential to achieve a new level of comprehension pertinent to the principles of signal integration in the brain

Expressando os sentimentos por meio da arte e do brincar

Trabalho de Conclusão do Curso de Especialização em Educação Infantil - 1ª Edição – Polo Joinville - SC, para a obtenção do Grau de Especialista em Educação Infantil.Com o intuito de promover situações para as crianças do primeiro período integral (4 e 5 anos) de 2011, do Centro de Educação Infantil Amandos Finder se conhecerem melhor e conseguirem identificar e expressar os seus sentimentos, nasceu o Projeto: “Expressando os sentimentos por meio da arte e do brincar”., que ressalta a importância do autoconhecimento para que as pessoas consigam dirigir suas vidas de forma mais eficiente. Salienta que os indivíduos que conseguem se conhecer melhor são mais seguros para tomar decisões sem ficar imobilizados diante dos problemas. Utiliza a arte e o brincar como meio de estimular a livre expressão dos seus sentimentos, sendo ferramentas de observação e intervenção do educador no contexto da vivência diária de intercâmbios e vínculos especiais, ressaltando que o cognitivo e o afetivo se entrelaçam intimamente. Aponta a importância da arte e do brincar como forma de expressão e sua relação no processo ensino aprendizagem, como alternativas para que as crianças possam ter um desenvolvimento físico, intelectual, afetivo, agradável, prazeroso e dinâmico

Exploring Nanoscale Organisation of Synapses with Super-Resolution Microscopy

The rapid advance of super-resolution microscopy and its experimental applications has provided neuroscientists with a pass to the nanoscopic world of synaptic machinery. Here we will briefly overview and discuss current progress in our understanding of the three-dimensional synaptic architecture and molecular organisation as gleaned from the imaging methods that go beyond the diffraction limit of conventional light microscopy. We will argue that such methods are to take our knowledge of synapses to a qualitatively new level, providing the neuroscience research community with novel organising principles and concepts pertinent to the workings of the brain

Memórias, metáforas e imaginação em narrativas orais de história de vida

We present the discussion of the imaginative character in life story narratives recorded by methods such as Oral History, considered scientific research resources. We propose the following questions: How do we deal with the imagination and metaphors in oral narratives of life stories? How do we regard the demand for “truth” in texts that activate subjectivity? Individual and subjective memories confer scientificity to narratives? We place the problem of truth and its relationship to language and knowledge, with Friedrich Nietzsche and Mikhail Bakhtin. We articulate theoretical review and case report, considering mental images as media that convey memories and, for this reason, a field of studies for Communication and History.Discutimos o caráter imaginativo de narrativas de histórias de vida registradas por métodos como a História Oral, consideradas fontes de pesquisa acadêmica. Propomos as seguintes indagações: Como lidamos com a imaginação e com metáforas nas narrativas orais de histórias de vida? Como atendemos à demanda pela “verdade” em textos que ativam a subjetividade? Memórias individuais e subjetivas conferem cientificidade às narrativas? Situamos o problema da verdade, suas relações com a linguagem e com o conhecimento a partir de Friedrich Nietzsche e Mikhail Bakhtin. Resistência e empoderamento no mundo rural.

Este trabalho faz uma discussão sobre as formas de resistência e de empoderamento que os agricultores familiares estabelecem e que os levam a protagonizar processos de mudança e ressignificação do rural em que vivem. Baseia-se em estudos realizados no Paraná e analisa: a) a criação da Fetraf-Sul, uma organização sindical de agricultores familiares que pretendeu inovar nos princípios de representação; b) a formação da Rede Ecovida que se organizou com o objetivo de garantir a certificação participativa dos agricultores segundo os padrões da agricultura orgânica; e c) as estratégias que eles estabelecem para contornar as restrições impostas às suas práticas de produção e extrativismo na APA em que vivem. O texto se refere a diferentes formas de resistência e luta que buscam objetivos similares: a afirmação do caráter muldimensional da pequena agricultura familiar; a construção de estratégias alternativas aos modelos hegemônicos de agricultura e ruralidade; a reafirmação de sua identidade como agricultores que ganham a nova dimensão de atores nos processos de “desenvolvimento sustentável”

A systematic review of the discriminating biomechanical parameters during the single leg squat

Objective: To determine whether there are common biomechanical parameters when analysing the single leg squat movement to compare pathological and non-pathological groups and whether these parameters are able to effectively distinguish between groups. Methods: Five electronic databases were searched using MESH terms, keywords and phrases across four constructs: squat, biomechanical measures, region of interest, study design. Studies were selected based on inclusion of a quantitative biomechanical measure, compared between a pathological and a non-pathological group, and participants performed a single leg squat movement. Results: Fifteen studies were included and reviewed, where the majority of studies investigated patellofemoral pain. There was considerable variation in the biomechanical outcome measure used to compare between groups. The frontal plane projection angle was the most commonly reported measure. There was considerable variation in the manner in which the single leg squat was performed. Conclusion: Due to variation in how the single leg squat was performed, it was not possible to determine specific biomechanical parameters that distinguish between pathological and non-pathological groups. Frontal plane projection angle appeared to be a parameter that could be effectively utilised. Standardisation of the single leg squat movement is needed to allow comparison between studies of pathological and non-pathological groups
