ТЕОСОФИЯ: ГЕНЕЗИС И АКТУАЛИЗАЦИЯ УЧЕНИЯ
У статті розглядається сутність теософії в її історико-філософському генезисі,
представленому у вченні неоплатоников, гностиків, середньовічних і ренесансних містиків.
Визначається сутність теософії як вчення синкретичної єдності ірраціонально-раціонального
збагнення глибини реальності. Специфічність теософії розкривається порівняно з філософією,
через визначення джерела знання, предмету і методу пізнання. Представлена актуалізація
теософії через сучасну діяльність Міжнародного теософського товариства і спадщину
О.П.Блаватськой. Вказується натрансформаційні змінимісії теософії, яка з езотеричного вчення
переходить в статус морально-етичного корелята розвитку соціальних інститутів іжиттєвого
простору людини.В статье рассматривается сущность теософии в её историко-философском генезисе,
представленном в учении неоплатоников, гностиков, средневековых и ренессансных
мистиков. Определяется сущность теософии как учения синкретического единства
иррационально-рационального постижения глубины реальности. Специфичность теософии
раскрывается в сравнении с философией, через определение источника знания, предмета и
метода познания. Представлена актуализация теософии через современную деятельность
Международного теософского общества и наследие Е.П.Блаватской. Указывается на
трансформационные изменения миссии теософии, которая из эзотерического учения переходит
в статус морально-нравственного коррелята развития социальных институтов и жизненного

Structure and Strength of Dislocation Junctions: An Atomic Level Analysis
The quasicontinuum method is used to simulate three-dimensional
Lomer-Cottrell junctions both in the absence and in the presence of an applied
stress. The simulations show that this type of junction is destroyed by an
unzipping mechanism in which the dislocations that form the junction are
gradually pulled apart along the junction segment. The calculated critical
stress needed for breaking the junction is comparable to that predicted by line
tension models. The simulations also demonstrate a strong influence of the
initial dislocation line directions on the breaking mechanism, an effect that
is neglected in the macroscopic treatment of the hardening effect of junctions.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Measurement of the electron electric dipole moment using GdIG
A new method for the detection of the electron edm using a solid is
described. The method involves the measurement of a voltage induced across the
solid by the alignment of the samples magnetic dipoles in an applied magnetic
field, H. A first application of the method to GdIG has resulted in a limit on
the electron edm of 5E-24 e-cm, which is a factor of 40 below the limit
obtained from the only previous solid-state edm experiment. The result is
limited by the imperfect discrimination of an unexpectedly large voltage that

Equivalent bosonic theory for the massive Thirring model with non-local interaction
We study, through path-integral methods, an extension of the massive Thirring
model in which the interaction between currents is non-local. By examining the
mass-expansion of the partition function we show that this non-local massive
Thirring model is equivalent to a certain non-local extension of the
sine-Gordon theory. Thus, we establish a non-local generalization of the famous
Coleman's equivalence. We also discuss some possible applications of this
result in the context of one-dimensional strongly correlated systems and

Systems biological and mechanistic modelling of radiation-induced cancer
This paper summarises the five presentations at the First International Workshop on Systems Radiation Biology that were concerned with mechanistic models for carcinogenesis. The mathematical description of various hypotheses about the carcinogenic process, and its comparison with available data is an example of systems biology. It promises better understanding of effects at the whole body level based on properties of cells and signalling mechanisms between them. Of these five presentations, three dealt with multistage carcinogenesis within the framework of stochastic multistage clonal expansion models, another presented a deterministic multistage model incorporating chromosomal aberrations and neoplastic transformation, and the last presented a model of DNA double-strand break repair pathways for second breast cancers following radiation therapy
Superconductor coupled to two Luttinger liquids as an entangler for electron spins
We consider an s-wave superconductor (SC) which is tunnel-coupled to two
spatially separated Luttinger liquid (LL) leads. We demonstrate that such a
setup acts as an entangler, i.e. it creates spin-singlets of two electrons
which are spatially separated, thereby providing a source of electronic
Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen pairs. We show that in the presence of a bias voltage,
which is smaller than the energy gap in the SC, a stationary current of
spin-entangled electrons can flow from the SC to the LL leads due to Andreev
tunneling events. We discuss two competing transport channels for Cooper pairs
to tunnel from the SC into the LL leads. On the one hand, the coherent
tunneling of two electrons into the same LL lead is shown to be suppressed by
strong LL correlations compared to single-electron tunneling into a LL. On the
other hand, the tunneling of two spin-entangled electrons into different leads
is suppressed by the initial spatial separation of the two electrons coming
from the same Cooper pair. We show that the latter suppression depends
crucially on the effective dimensionality of the SC. We identify a regime of
experimental interest in which the separation of two spin-entangled electrons
is favored. We determine the decay of the singlet state of two electrons
injected into different leads caused by the LL correlations. Although the
electron is not a proper quasiparticle of the LL, the spin information can
still be transported via the spin density fluctuations produced by the injected
spin-entangled electrons.Comment: 15 pages, 2 figure

The treatment of patients with Stage I-II seminoma has changed considerably in the past decade, and in November 2009, an International Consensus meeting was held under the sponsorship of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), Société Internationale d'Urologie (SIU), and International Consultation on Urological Diseases (ICUD) to review recent updates in the published data and develop international consensus guidelines on the treatment of this group of patients. In Stage I disease, the consensus conference recommended that patients should be informed of all treatment options, including the potential benefits and side effects of each treatment. It was agreed that this discussion should include a review of the possible salvage treatment effects. In addition, in patients willing and able to adhere to a surveillance program, this should be considered the management option of choice (assuming facilities are available for suitable monitoring). For Stage IIA disease, the consensus conference recommended that radiotherapy should be considered the standard treatment in the absence of contraindications. For Stage IIB disease, chemotherapy or radiotherapy were considered reasonable treatment approaches, and for Stage IIC disease, chemotherapy should be considered the standard treatment approach. For patients with a residual mass after chemotherapy, the consensus conference noted that patients with masses 3 cm in diameter could be considered for immediate surgery or close observation. It was also noted that surgery in this setting is technically challenging and could be associated with greater morbidity than in patients with nonseminomatous tumors

Depletion of RUNX1/ETO in t(8;21) AML cells leads to genome-wide changes in chromatin structure and transcription factor binding
The t(8;21) translocation fuses the DNA-binding domain of the hematopoietic master regulator RUNX1 to the ETO protein. The resultant RUNX1/ETO fusion protein is a leukemia-initiating transcription factor that interferes with RUNX1 function. The result of this interference is a block in differentiation and, finally, the development of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). To obtain insights into RUNX1/ETO-dependant alterations of the epigenetic landscape, we measured genome-wide RUNX1- and RUNX1/ETO-bound regions in t(8;21) cells and assessed to what extent the effects of RUNX1/ETO on the epigenome depend on its continued expression in established leukemic cells. To this end, we determined dynamic alterations of histone acetylation, RNA Polymerase II binding and RUNX1 occupancy in the presence or absence of RUNX1/ETO using a knockdown approach. Combined global assessments of chromatin accessibility and kinetic gene expression data show that RUNX1/ETO controls the expression of important regulators of hematopoietic differentiation and self-renewal. We show that selective removal of RUNX1/ETO leads to a widespread reversal of epigenetic reprogramming and a genome-wide redistribution of RUNX1 binding, resulting in the inhibition of leukemic proliferation and self-renewal, and the induction of differentiation. This demonstrates that RUNX1/ETO represents a pivotal therapeutic target in AML
