BACCHARIS (ASTERACEAE) NO RIO GRANDE DO SUL.

Baccharis L., um grupo caracterizado pelas flores unissexuais, geralmente em espécimes distintos, compreende ca. 433 espécies e é profusamente diversificado na Região Neotropical [1]. Os Andes, da Colômbia ao centro do Chile e da Argentina, as regiões montanhosas do sudeste e sul do Brasil, o Uruguai e o leste do Paraguai são os principais centros de diversidade do gênero [2]. No Brasil o gênero está representado por 177 espécies distribuídas principalmente nas regiões Sudeste (116 spp.) e Sul (127 spp.) [3]. O objetivo deste estudo é a revisão da listagem de Baccharis no Rio Grande do Sul com vistas à elaboração de um estudo taxonômico do gênero para o estado

Nomenclatural novelties in Baccharis subgen. Baccharis (Asteraceae, Astereae).

Four new names (Baccharisgaucha for B. axillaris var. dentata; B. neoaustralis for B. papillosa subsp. australis; B. neotruncata for B. truncata,and B. tetroica for B. tricuneata var. procumbens)and 12 new combinations at species rank (B. chaparensis, B. chrysophylla, B. fimbriata, B. integrifolia, B. kessleri, B. longipedicellata, B. minor, B. mornicola, B. pycnocephala, B. vargasii, B. viscosissima, and B. yungensis) are provided totalling 16 nomenclatural novelties for Baccharis subgen. Baccharis. Moreover, a neotype is designated for B. mornicola. Comments on the distribution of these species and their closest congeneric species are provided, as well as morphological characters to differentiate them

First record of Helichrysum foetidum (L.) Moench. (Asteraceae, Gnaphalieae) for South America.

We provide the first record of Helichrysum foetidum (Asteraceae, Gnaphalieae) for South America, based on new collections made in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil. This species is native from Africa and cultivated in Europe, where it is used as an ornamental or medicinal herb. Helichrysum foetidum is recognized by the discolorous leaves with adaxial surface dark green, tomentose and abaxial surface grey, lanose tomentose margins, large heads organized in a corymbiform capitulescence and bright yellow bracts and flowers. Baccharis nebularis (Asteraceae, Astereae): a new species of B. subgen. Tarchonanthoides sect. Curitybenses from the mountains of Southern Brazil.

Baccharis nebularis, a new species belonging to B. subgen. Tarchonanthoides sect. Curitybenses, is described, illustrated, and compared to B. chionolaenoides and B. curitybensis. A key for its identification is provided. The new species occurs in patches of cloud forest thickets mixed with high altitude tropical grasslands in the southern Brazilian mountains. Data on distribution and habitat, phenology, conservation status, as well as a list of specimens examined are also presented
