SALUD Y PROTECCIÓN FINANCIERA EN MÉXICO: EL GASTO CATASTRÓFICO EN LAS ENTIDADES FEDERATIVAS, 2000-2010

El sistema de salud en México, por lo menos hasta finales del siglo XX, se enfocó al aseguramiento social por medio de cuotas cobradas a los patrones y trabajadores, y una pequeña parte de los recursos era dirigida a instituciones de salud para personas que no contaban con un seguro de este tipo, generando un gran sesgo en el acceso oportuno a los servicios de salud. Las personas a menudo se veían obligadas a prescindir de los servicios de salud y cuando se podía pagar por estos, muy a menudo realizaba gastos catastróficos que afectaban gravemente su economía familiar. La Ley General de Salud, puesta en marcha en 2004, implementa una modalidad de aseguramiento y dispone sobre el acceso a toda la población de los servicios de salud más demandados, creando para esto el Sistema de Protección Social en Salud. El objetivo del presente trabajo es identificar los avances del sector salud en México, en el cumplimiento de su meta especifica de la protección financiera de los usuarios de servicios de salud bajo la hipótesis de que la implementación del Sistema de Protección Social en Salud ha reducido el porcentaje de hogares con gasto catastrófico en cada una de las entidades del país, evidenciando las repercusiones de la incidencia que éstos gastos tiene para la economía familiar y sus condiciones de vida. En esta investigación, se emplea la metodología propuesta por la Organización Mundial de la Salud, con el fin de obtener las estimaciones del gasto catastrófico por motivos de salud, para cada una de las entidades del país, alcanzando el último objetivo propuesto de analizar y comparar la evolución de este indicador durante el periodo 2000 – 2010

The Status of Women in Colorado

The Status of Women and Girls in Colorado aims to provide reliable data to help empower communities across the state to build on the successes of women and girls as well as effectively address the diverse needs and realities of their lives. This report addresses this need by analyzing how women and girls in Colorado fare in five topical areas that profoundly shape their lives: economic security and poverty; employment and earnings; educational opportunity; personal safety; and community leadership. We will use this research to inform the focused and strategic work of The Women's Foundation of Colorado, and it is our intent for this report to be a valuable resource to our communities in every corner of the state

Constructing acoustic timefronts using random matrix theory

In a recent letter [Europhys. Lett. 97, 34002 (2012)], random matrix theory is introduced for long-range acoustic propagation in the ocean. The theory is expressed in terms of unitary propagation matrices that represent the scattering between acoustic modes due to sound speed fluctuations induced by the ocean's internal waves. The scattering exhibits a power-law decay as a function of the differences in mode numbers thereby generating a power-law, banded, random unitary matrix ensemble. This work gives a more complete account of that approach and extends the methods to the construction of an ensemble of acoustic timefronts. The result is a very efficient method for studying the statistical properties of timefronts at various propagation ranges that agrees well with propagation based on the parabolic equation. It helps identify which information about the ocean environment survives in the timefronts and how to connect features of the data to the surviving environmental information. It also makes direct connections to methods used in other disordered wave guide contexts where the use of random matrix theory has a multi-decade history.Comment: 10 figures, 12 page
