Specific compounds extracted from plants can control insect pests. The objective of this study was to evaluate the toxicity of deodar oil (phytopesticide) to adult mealworms Tenebrio molitor (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) compared with carbosulfan (synthetic insecticide), which exibits cholinesterase (ChE), glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT), and glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT) activities. The insecticides were applied through feeding, and the LC50 (lethal concentration) was calculated using the Finney method. The LC50 of deodar oil was higher than that of carbosulfan. The doses of both deodar oil and carbosulfan inhibited the ChE activity (p > 0.05) and enhanced the GPT and GOT activities (p < 0.05) in mealworm adults. Alterations in the activity of these biomarkers indicated that deodar oil could effectively control adult mealworms, being an environmentally low-impact method that can replace the use of chemical products

A Deep Sequence Learning Framework for Action Recognition in Small-Scale Depth Video Dataset

Depth video sequence-based deep models for recognizing human actions are scarce compared to RGB and skeleton video sequences-based models. This scarcity limits the research advancements based on depth data, as training deep models with small-scale data is challenging. In this work, we propose a sequence classification deep model using depth video data for scenarios when the video data are limited. Unlike summarizing the frame contents of each frame into a single class, our method can directly classify a depth video, i.e., a sequence of depth frames. Firstly, the proposed system transforms an input depth video into three sequences of multi-view temporal motion frames. Together with the three temporal motion sequences, the input depth frame sequence offers a four-stream representation of the input depth action video. Next, the DenseNet121 architecture is employed along with ImageNet pre-trained weights to extract the discriminating frame-level action features of depth and temporal motion frames. The extracted four sets of feature vectors about frames of four streams are fed into four bi-directional (BLSTM) networks. The temporal features are further analyzed through multi-head self-attention (MHSA) to capture multi-view sequence correlations. Finally, the concatenated genre of their outputs is processed through dense layers to classify the input depth video. The experimental results on two small-scale benchmark depth datasets, MSRAction3D and DHA, demonstrate that the proposed framework is efficacious even for insufficient training samples and superior to the existing depth data-based action recognition methods

In silico molecular mechanism of cannabigerol as a cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor

Discovery of new cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) inhibitors is a major area in anti-inflammatory drug discovery. Cannabigerol is a cannabinoid, which is recently discovered as a new COX-2 inhibitor. So far no work has been done to explore in depth mechanistic insights to understand its mechanism and binding mode. In the current investigation, molecular docking simulations were performed to explore its binding mode and is molecular interactions with the ligand binding site of COX-2 enzyme. Cannabigerol showed multiple molecular contacts with active of COX-2 especially withArg120, Tyr355, and Met522. Hydrogen bonding, dipole-dipole and hydrophobic interactions were the key attractive forces involved in macromolecular contacts. Molecular modifications in Cannabigerol are discussed, which can lead to further improvement of the ligand as a new lead compound against COX-2 enzyme

The influence of Kerr field and Doppler broadening on magneto optical and image state rotation

We examine the magneto-optical and image state rotation (MOR) of left and right circularly plane-polarized light pulse through a double 螞-type four-level configuration of Rubidium atom via Kerr field and Doppler broadening in the presence of the static magnetic field. The medium鈥檚 behavior is different for both orthogonal components of the probe beam, causing linear dichroism or circular birefringence. Enhanced and lossless MOR is obtained by applying the control field through a closed-loop birefringent system. We observe a magnified angle of rotation of probe field in Doppler broadened medium. It is shown that due to the Kerr nonlinearity, the rotation angle of the probe beam is generated and modified through cold and Doppler broadened medium. Moreover, almost complete polarization rotation is observed for a particular set of parameters. The MOR can be effectively utilized in designing new TM/TE polarization modes, optical communication, polarization spectroscopy, lider with backscattering depolarization, precision measurements, and magnetometry

Lipoxygenase (LOX) inhibitors are well known for their anti-inflammatory effects derived from both natural products and synthetic sources. Taxus wallichiana Zucc is traditionally used in the treatment of various diseases including inflammation. In a recent study, it was used to conduce the isolation of the bioactive compounds from Taxus wallichiana Zucc. thanks to its ethnopharmacological use in diseases including inflammation. Phytochemical studies lead to the isolation of abietane diterpenoids, namely Taxusabietane C (TC) and Taxamairin F (TF). Test compounds showed significant LOX inhibitory effects. IC50 values of TC and TF were 69 +/- A 0.31 and 73 +/- A 0.14 mu M, respectively. The standard compound Baicalein and Tenidap sodium showed the IC50 value being 22.1 +/- A 0.03 and 41.6 +/- A 0.02 mu M. Significant LOX inhibitory activities were supported by a molecular docking simulation to explore molecular interactions of the compounds with the active (catalytic) site of LOX
