Cigarette butts are the most common form of litter in the marine environment and represent potential point sources for environmental contamination. The metals leached from cigarette butts have not been studied well in the marine environment. In this study, the levels of metals (Cd, Fe, As, Ni, Cu, Zn and Mn) in cigarette butts were monitored at nine stations along the northern part of the Persian Gulf in Bushehr coastal areas in summer 2015 with a sampling time interval of 10 days. The Cd, Fe, As, Ni, Cu, Zn and Mn contents of cigarette butts were found to vary widely between 0.16 and 0.67 μg/g, 79.01 and 244.97 μg/g, 0.12 and 0.48 μg/g, 1.13 and 3.27 μg/g, 4.29 and 12.29 μg/g, 6.39 and 21.17 μg/g, and 38.29 and 123.1 μg/g, respectively. A Wilcoxon signed rank test showed that there were no significant differences between the Cd, Fe, As, Ni, Cu, Zn and Mn contents of cigarette butts at different sampling times. Considering the estimated number of cigarette butts littered annually, the results of this study indicated that considerable metals including Cd, Fe, As, Ni, Cu, Zn and Mn may enter the marine environment each year from cigarette litter alone

Efficient Terahertz Generation by Tilted-Pulse-Front Pumping in Lithium Niobate for the Split-Ring Resonator Experiment at FLUTE

A compact, longitudinal diagnostics for fs-scale electron bunches using a THz electric-field transient in a split-ring resonator (SRR) for streaking will be tested at the Ferninfrarot Linac- Und Test- Experiment (FLUTE). For this new streaking technique, intensive THz pulses are required, which will be generated by laser-based optical rectification. We present a setup for generating THz pulses using tilted-pulse-front pumping in lithium niobate at room temperature. Excited by an 800 nm Ti:Sa pump laser with 35 fs bandwidth-limited pulse length, conversion efficiencies up to 0.027% were achieved. Furthermore, the status of the SRR experiment is shown

The Effectiveness of IMAGO therapy group training on Defensive Mechanisms and Women's Problems

Nowadays, paying attention to the family and its role in establishing a healthy society is more than ever considered by planners and researchers. Accordingly, the present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of group training IMAGO on problem solving skills and defense mechanisms women attending family counseling centers in Hamadan. The study population consisted of all women was referred to counseling centers in Hamedan in 1396.To select the sample size, 30 women were selected through purposeful sampling and were randomly assigned to two groups of 15-member to do experiment and controlling. Tools of research consist of the Questionnaire of family problem solving (FPS) and defense mechanisms (DSQ). Results were analyzed by a variable covariance with SPSS software version24.Result of research showed that Imago Relationship Therapy increased the skills in solving the family problems (p<0/00 ‚f=190/112)‚ Reduce the use of immature defense styles (p<0/0017‚f=293/573) ‚disgusting(p<0/00‚f=320/538) and increase use of developed defense styles (p<0/001,f=592/825). According to the fact that Imago Relationship Therapy is a communication-based treatment and during the sessions, techniques for improving relationships are provided to couples. So we this method can be used to improve the couple′s relationships and increase they related component ‚which results in solving family problems

Predicting depression, anxiety, stress and academic procrastination based on smartphone addiction with emphasis on gender differences in students

Excessive use of smartphones is associated with academic procrastination, depression, anxiety and stress in students; Therefore, examining the relationship between smartphone addiction and procrastination and psychological vulnerability in students is of particular importance. Therefore, this study was conducted to predict depression, anxiety, stress and academic procrastination based on smartphone addiction with emphasis on gender differences in students. The present study was a descriptive correlational study. Using the stratified sampling method, 275 students (120 girls and 155 boys) of the first year high school students in Turkmanchay who were selected in the academic year 1399-1400. Research data were collected using Solomon and Rathblum (1984) Delayed Questionnaire, Mobile Phone Addiction Questionnaire (2013) and Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21). The results of Pearson correlation coefficient showed that between smartphone addiction with depression (r = 0.457), anxiety (r = 0.363), stress (r = 0.334) and academic procrastination (0.358) = r) There is a positive and significant relationship (P≥0.001). The results of multiple regression showed that in female students, desire for loneliness and creativity and in male students, desire and loneliness were the strongest predictors of depression, anxiety and stress. Also the strongest predictors of procrastination in female students were loneliness and de-creativity and in post-students loneliness. It can be concluded that addiction to mobile smartphones increases the level of stress and anxiety in students and stress and anxiety caused by addiction to smartphones also increases the level of procrastination among student

THz-driven split ring resonator undulator - dataset

    No full text
We propose a short period undulator based on the electromagnetic field pattern in a THz-driven split ring resonator structure. An analytical model is developed that allows us to assess the key performance parameters of the undulator and to estimate the emitted radiation spectrum. Different geometric configurations are compared in detail using numerical simulations. A 100 MeV electron bunch with 5 pC charge is shown to emit narrow band 83 eV photon pulses with a peak brightness of approximately 10¹⁹ photons/(s mrad² mm² 0.1% BW) when passing through the 100 mm long undulator with a 1 mm period

Granulated silica method to produce an “inversed” guiding fibre structure (Conference Presentation)

    No full text
The granulated silica method for preform and fibre production offers a high versatility with respect to material composition and shape. Based on this composition flexibility along with the possibility to introduce dopants and co-dopants at high concentration levels, the refractive indexes of the passive and active fibre areas can be tailored in a wide range. In particular fibres with an inverted refractive index step (npassive>nactive) can be realized. A local lack of population inversion in Ytterbium-doped standard step-index fibres leads to reabsorption of the Ytterbium emission. In order to avoid this reabsorption, an “inversed” guiding fibre structure is proposed, where the light generating area and the guiding area are physically separated. This can be realized by inverting the refractive index step (npassive>nactive). By using the granulated silica method, the refractive index of both areas can be influenced and tailored in order to realize such an “inversed” guiding fibre structure. Within this research, the first results for two different fibre designs featuring the “inverse” guiding fibre structure are presented: 1) Guiding cladding structure: Al-passively doped cladding and Yb/Al-actively doped core with npassive, clad>nactive, core. The light will be generated in the active core but refracted into the passive cladding and guided by it (due to total internal reflection between the passive cladding and the surrounding air). 2) Guiding core structure: Al-passively doped core and Yb/Al-actively doped cladding with npassive, core>nactive, clad. The light will be generated in the active cladding but refracted into the passive core and only guided by it (due to total internal reflection between the passive core and active cladding). Here, the active area is based on the granulated silica method while for the passive core a sapphire rod has been used

Millimeter-wave-triggering of insulator-to-metal transition in Vanadium dioxide

    No full text
We establish insulator-to-metal transition (IMT) in Vanadium dioxide (VO2) by millimeter-wave (mm-wave) actuation, using two coupled dipole antennas: a simple one as a continuous mm-wave-source and the other one with an embedded VO2 part as an absorber. We measured vertical bar S-12 vertical bar by a vector network analyzer (VNA), to show how the induced mm-wave power in insulating biased VO2 causes INIT. The bias voltage is set to enhance the sensitivity in VO2. The VO2 embedded antenna shows sensitivity to the mm-wave power down to 3.2 mu W. The experiment proves the detection concept also for terahertz frequencies
